Guys, I keep hearing about this relationship Mary with Vincent, I know it is very strange thing, but if you do the research it is very common thing in Sicily, meaning cousins marriages is very common in Italy, so please do research and you will see that. but I am not sure why people dont like Part 3, to me ,this is as great as the other ones, the only setback is acting of Coppolas daughter, but Pacinos performance is unbelievable, specially when they kill Mary, so powerful scene, I have not seen anything like that before, it is unbelievable how pacino does that, so believable that you feel like he really lost his daughter, wow PACINO bravo and bravo million times

I think most people just don't think part III was as great as part I & II. It wasn't bad just good or pretty good. It held it's own. I could watch it again but not over & over (repeating) again like the first two.

A bit of trivia: Joey Zasa's bodyguard, Anthony "The Ant" Squigliaro, the guy who looked as if he'd been repeatedly punched in the face, looked that way because he'd been repeatedly punched in the face. He was played by middleweight champion boxer (1979) Vito Antuofermo. He's a pretty good actor and certainly looked the part. Mary was played by director Francis Ford Coppola's daughter Sofia as an emergency replacement when Winona Ryder got sick and dropped out of the production. She didn't think much of her performance. I thought she was good, and more believable in the role than someone more glamorous would have been. She also played the baby who was being baptized toward the end of the first Godfather movie. A baby girl portraying a baby boy -- not an easy feat, that. The photographer who had sex with Vincent Mancini was played by Jane Fonda's niece, Bridget Fonda. Her back was broken in a car accident in 2000 and she did little acting after that.

Funny is right! The audience I saw it with LAUGHED at that hilarious, pathetic embarrassment of a scene! Why the hell do you think he cut it out? You fall for that hilarious moment where he just keels over in that dopey 90s hat, that overstyled costume he's wearing? What a moron movie if there ever was one, a complete embarrassment to the franchise that they tried to cover with Oscar nominations, hilarious. I mean, even the sound design sucks. The hair sucks. The costumes suck. This is the 70s?? "Goodfellas" came out the same year, THAT'S what the 70s looked like. Unbelievable. This guy could have watched a masterpiece after Godfather Part 2 and deepened his appreciation for the actors, the director and the era and instead half-wits had him watch this. What a lump of mediocrities.

Coppola stated that his original intention was to call this movie, "The Death Of Michael Corleone", and then NOT kill Michael, out of sheer contrariness! The STUDIO made him call it "The Godfather, Part III".

Micheal had meant in that conversation with Mary that this will help her provide for her future children. My problem with the theatrical wasn't the relationship but rather Coda imo cut out some of the unnessesary stuff. I preferred the Coda ending also because the Director felt giving Micheal a death there prohibited him from truly suffering for his sins like killing his brother and this is the reasoning for putting the Sicilian saying there. Live long and remember what you've done is how it basically plays out. In the novels, Tom is killed by a enemy of Michael's in Florida and dumped in a swamp, feeding the gators but he didn't appear in the film because of contract dispute. Finally, I love Eli Wallach as Don Altobello and is one of my five personal favorite characters in cinema. My recommendation is, "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" with Eli, Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef. Tuco is my all time favorite character in Cinema and the movie was almost as iconic as The Godfather for my money. Thank you for your channel and the honest effort you give when critiquing them. I can tell you aren't one of these channels that probably watched it twice last month but want to get in on the views and it's appreciated.

Right. I got confused about Mary due to the ring on her finger and also the little kid she carried in that one scene. It looked like Michael lived a long life already by the end. There wasn't even anyone around him to witness his death. Though it's true that the longer he lives, the more he has to remember and suffer. Even though Michael didn't want to get Tom involved in the business too much, Tom still got killed... I do have "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" in my list. Isn't it part of a trilogy? Good to know there's another great movie to look forward to 😊 You're welcome. I just react and enjoy the movies as I watch them 👍🏻

The sequel novels were not written by puzo so they said that's not cannon for the movies. At the end of the day he dies of natural causes mainly because Robert Duvall was insulted that al Pacino was making 4 times as much as him. Puzo & Ford Coppola have said they wanted him back. Instead George Hamilton got the part as the lawyer but Tom Hagen was supposed to be the one who came up with the idea of Micheal buying immobilare trying to help Micheal become legit. Also I prefer theatrical ending because to me Coda is the same ending as part 2

I don’t think the assassin did fail. She was the target. When Michael was in the hospital bed, he warned Vincent,”When they come, they come at what you love.” The worst way to die is alone, for sure Kay and the family could never forgive Michael for Mary’s murder. Even back to GF1 Don Vito proclaimed “On the souls of my grandchildren I will not be the one to break the peace.” That was technically not true as Michael and he planned the killing of the heads of the Five families. There was talk of a Godfather 4 with a story around Vincent. But Mario Puzo, the book’s author died, so Coppola chose not to tell another story without him. Finally, you didn’t mention it, but Vincent’s mom in the beginning at the party is the same bridesmaid of Connie’s wedding in GF1 that Sonny was fooling around with in that side room.

Vito: "On the souls of my grandchildren..." Michael: "I swear, on the lives of my children..." Mary's fate was sealed, if oaths are to be taken seriously. I believe they did the right thing to stop at GF3, with Mario Puzo's death and all... Vincent's mom is that bridesmaid from GF1? Wow, I didn't notice that at all! No wonder Vincent's last name is not Corleone, and he said Sonny died before he was born.

If they had not had Michael die in the final scene it would have been better because the public would understand the true death of Michael was when he had to watch his daughter die. He worshiped her and her death was his as well.

@TTM9691

lol. This movie is not "decent". If you have to squint your eyes to make it look good, then guess what, it sucks. If there's only one great scene in the movie, then it sucks. How many great scenes are in the first two? Goodfellas came out the same year. THAT'S a decent movie. (and a great one!). The Freshman came out the same year. THAT'S a decent movie. That achieves exactly what it set out to be: a really funny comedy....starring Brando parodying his Don Corleone performance. "The Conversation", "Dog Day Afternoon", "Mean Streets", "Taxi Driver", or "Apocalypse Now" are ALL what any real film fan would recommend watching after seeing the first two. But man oh man, the dummies just can't stop saying "You have to watch the third one! You have to watch the third one!". Seven million reasons why this movie sucks beyond all words, and it just goes flying over the heads of dummies who accept mediocrity. And they wonder why movies suck so bad now. They learned: we don't even have to make good movies! They'll go see ANYTHING with a logo on it, or a number next to the title! After all: look at the Godfather Part 3!
@flarrfan

@@TTM9691 Of course, it does not compare to the great movies you mentioned. All comes down to opinion...everybody's got one ;) and to the definition of "decent". @@flarrfan Ah, I see, so you're judging it on a grade curve, I see, lol. I judge it against OTHER GREAT MOVIES. That's the ONLY way you judge a movie. Once again: you have to squint and make excuses to make such crap appear good. Pacino sucks in it, that' s not Michael Corleone, that's 90s Pacino and he's the first to admit it! They couldn't cough up the money for Duvall, so we get a lot of Pacino saying "diabetes". The look of the movie sucks. The costumes suck. The hair is all wrong. This is supposed to be the 70s right? Worst 70s period piece ever made, during a decade where they aced it over and over again, including that very year in Goodfellas. The SOUND DESIGN even sucks. They're clearly lip synching to a track in that horrible opening party sequence. Worst, creepiest love subplot in the history of movies.....and that's before we even get into the acting of poor Sofia. The mob hits are IDIOTIC. You fall for that? You fall for a helicopter shooting into a Manhattan skyscraper? Are you that much of dopey action movie twerp? How about that idiotic last 45 mintues where it turns into a second rate Hitchcock movie! Or the hilarious ending that the audience I saw LAUGHED AT. Mob hit by eyeglasses frame, wow......that's realistic. And PS: :1990 had plenty of great movies: Wild At Heart, The Grifters, Vincent And Theo, Edward Scissorhands (which isn't my thing, but I know alot of people like it), Awakenings came out that year (two totally different De Niro performances in the same year). John Waters did Cry Baby. Yeah, it wasn't the 70s anymore, but there was still plenty to see that was WAYA superior to the steaming of shit that is the Godfather Part 3. And people like you who make excuses are why movies suck now. End of discussion. if you like it as a guilty pleasure, fine. Other than that, I'd be embarrassed to say it's anything else other than an abject waste of time and money.

@TTM9691

Now that you watched this piece of crap, you should watch what real movie fans would have had you watch, especially BEFORE the idiotic third one came out: "The Conversation", Coppola's other masterpiece of 1974, also nominated for Best Picture. "Dog Day Afternoon" which Al Pacino and John Cazale (Fredo) made in 1975, the year after "Godfather Part 2". Another masterpiece. "Apocalypse Now", Coppola, Brando and Duvall reunited for Coppolla's last iconic masterpiece of the 70s. "Mean Streets" the movie that Robert De Niro made the year before "Godfather Part 2", a completely different mob character/movie (his first with Scorsese). Or "Taxi Driver" the movie De Niro (and Scorsese) did AFTER "The Godfather Part 2". Or "Last Tango In Paris", Brando's other masterpiece of a performance from 1972. Or "The Freshman", the same year of "GF3", a comedy hit in which Brando parodies his Godfather performance. Or "Goodfellas", the same year as "GF3" and the only rival that The Godfather has in terms of "Best Mob Movie Ever." All of those movies, with the exception of The Freshman are acknowledged masterpieces of cineman, and "The Freshman" is completely successful at what it attempts to be: a funny comedy. The audience I saw The Godfather Part 3 LAUGHED at it. NOBODY ranks The Godfather Part 3 as anything other than a mediocrity at best and a total embarrassment to the "franchise". We always used to be able to point to The Godfather as the gold standard of sequels. We used to point to it to show what a sequel SHOULD be, since starting in the late 70s and early 80s, EVERYTHING got a sequel, and they usually sucked. That all went away with "GF Part 3". People still say how the second one is legendary and all that, but The Godfather as a whole had its reputation tarnished a bit by that stupid, idiotic sequel. It was supposed to be Michael and Tom Hagen, Tom Hagen was supposed to get wacked, it was an entirely different story and Paramount wouldn't pay for his salary. So they had to redo the whole script at the last minute. They knew people would go see it even if it sucked, all they cared about was the money. And THAT is the legacy of The Godfather Part 3, despite what anyone else tells you in the comment section.

@@henryellow You don't have to watch any, I'm just telling you that back when people actually had good taste in movies - which is why The Godfather was a blockbuster hit, rather than a cult film - those are the titles people would have told you is the logical "next" movie to watch, it would have been one of those. Instead, these morons have reactors wasting their time and their editing efforts on a piece of crap rather than something actually good.
