Those "people" don't even ride! I catch shit for being a Harley rider when I defend them. I haven't even OWNED one in over 30 years! I'll point out the many faults of Yamaha's V-Max and get cussed out by people that don't even OWN one! Had they ever owned and ridden one, if they were man enough, they'd come back with: "You're right! These things DO handle like an overloaded wheelbarrow with a flat tire!" or "You're right! the brakes DO suck!" or "You're right! Adding gas is a Holy Shitass test of ones patience!" I'll be the first to admit they out-accelerate a lot of motorcycles (except Harley-s V-Rod, a 2 cylinder) and Yamaha's FJ-something, but other than that, they're useless for the street! They're a perfect example of why I ride my modified Yamaha SR500/650. It'll mop the pavement with any V-Max...except maybe in the 1/4 mile. An 1/8th mile? Not so much. I'd dust one.

You words about the meaning of Memorial Day were well received. I could tell that they were heartfelt. I am a US Navy Vet and a VFW member, POST 1481 Ogden Utah. The first Memorial Day in the United States was May 30. 1868. Memorial Day was observed every May 30th until 1971 when It was changed to the last Monday in May. This created a three day weekend to mark the unofficial start of summer and many people forgot or never learned the purpose for which the day was set aside. Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for remembering the people who died while serving in the country's armed forces. Bravo Zulu "Fair winds and following seas."

Just being able to ride is a blessing in and of itself. I wish more people understood that. That's the truth right there. Its a blessing that small-minded people take for granted. Riding is a blessing, a privilege, a gift. So many can't ride, whether it is due to financial difficulties, physical conditions that prevent them, geography, etc. etc. It's ignorant to even say something like that (in a negative fashion) about Sportsters and the people who ride them. To say it also shows what somebody really thinks about women. They're saying that women don't need a bike that resembles a soft leather recliner that has butt-warmers, hand warmers, cup-holders, a sound system, big shopping bags, giant foot-rests... wait, which one is supposed to be the girl's bike? (LOL, settle down out there, I'm just playin around - but I am serious. The dudes who say that type of stuff about Sportsters and 'girls' are just revealing what kind of people they really are).

But I am so happy seeing someone showing some love for sportsters. They're not as common in the UK, they get a lot of bad press for being "middle of the road" but I've never seen one fall to bits at the side of the motorway and everyone on them always has a sweet shiteating grin, looks comfy when they arrive in any weather, and every last one of them has been customised to what the owner fancies. I sense a lot of insecurity, conveniently dressed up as masculinity, in guys who cannot drive a car or a bike that some people deem girly. Like a small convertible like a Miata, or a Sportster as in this video. Of course they're going to dress it up as a case of massive masculinity too great for a girly vehicle to handle, because if there is one thing that scares an insecure guy more than anything it is for people to know that they are insecure which, ironically, is exactly what happens when they over-compensate their machismo.

A great commentary on the sportster shadetree. I'm in Australia. They're loved down here. I own a 2011 Superlow with a Hammer 1250 kit. I fitted the kit myself in 2013. The thing hauls ass. I've ridden the bigger bikes but i prefer the sportster. Much respect to your friends who are no longer with us.

Soon as he could walk on a cane he went and got himself a new Fatboy with a touring kit. Following in his footsteps iv been in the AirForce for 4 years now and have a Sportster myself. Thanks for the support and remembering the vets. 14 members of my family have served since WWI with 4 of us active now. (Myself my cousin and my 2 sisters)

I don't think Japanese bikes are necessarily disposable, as they can be rebuilt just like any other bike, but sometimes the cost of fixing them outweighs what the bike is worth or if someone is paying someone for the work it may be cheaper to buy new. Also in the sportsters defense, the 1200 can easily be built to 100+hp, even the 883 can make 75-80hp.

Wrong! Bang bang and you don’t go very far. It’s insane driving a 1 crank engine on a freeway. You pay TWICE the fuel cost for NO distance gain. Racing /sports is all about driving round and round in circles at no expense spared for 10 minutes. 1 piston per crank is what you want. Cause you ain’t driving round and round in circles for 10 minutes. Men gossip constantly.

@@jonnymac8925 I’m NOT having a conversation with people here. People don’t realise Harley CAN make different motors. I’m just point that fact out to people. Just like smoke alarms sound warning advice. You do NOT argue or attack smoke alarm warning sounds. You failed to approach me. Your comments failed to communicate. Harley makes high revving motors AND low revving motors. They are allowed to. They’re also allowed to NOT tell anyone what they’ve built. Facts MUST be stated to humans cause they use self ego to inform themselves.
@jonnymac8925

@@dreyn7780 can? They already do make different motors, with two more being released for 2021. The 500cc revolution max, 750 revolution max, the 975 revolution max and the 1250 revolution max. They are liquid cooled, 60 degree, no pushrods or cylinder fins. Vtwins are made for the low end torque they create, they wouldn't work right with a single cylinder. If you don't like it then go buy a bike with one of the other motors that do rev higher, that they already make. Nobody is telling anyone what to do with their rides either so I am not sure what you are trying to get at there. Also, I don't need a bike that gets anymore than 50mpg. I didn't buy a bike to worry about gas especially when the gas mileage is as good as 95% of high gas mileage road vehicles. Nobody said anything about what motors Harley can and can't make either. Your comments aren't communicating because you sound borderline insane. I sure hope I don't share the road with you on a motorcycle. What are you even talking about you rambling babboon?

I used to have a Sportster, and I think it's a poor choice for a female or a new rider. Actually I find that a heavy Street Glide handles much better than a Sportster. Many buy a Sportster because it's half the price of other Harleys. A better choice for a lady or new rider is an Indian Scout because it's lighter, lower center of gravity, better fuel mileage, more power, a modern overhead cam motor that's liquid cooled, and has awesome handling. Buy American brothers.

I have a 2003 883 Anniversary Edition. Bought it last year for $3500. Even though I’m 5’11, it has forward pegs like the one Shadetree is riding and It gives me more than enough room. I love it. I’ll have it forever. When the engine needs to be rebuilt, I’ll convert it to a 1200. I also have a Heritage Softail, a 2002 Road King, a 97 Honda Magna and a Honda CX500 that is being converted to a cafe racer. I’m happy to have this bike in garage.
