The Heart Of Awareness is a beautiful translation by Thomas Byrom of The Ashtavakra Gita, and is my favorite book ever.
The Ashtavakra Gita is where the sage Ashtavakra, whose song we sing here, is so powerful and wise, that his new disciple King Janaka, is instantly Self-Realized upon hearing the answer to his first question to his spiritual master:
“How do I find detachment, wisdom, and freedom?”
Over the next 20 verses together, his excellency the enlightening king-sage goes back and forth, back and forth, with the ancient sage who was wise before he was born.
The king-sage Janaka ultimately goes, in less than an ultradian rhythm, not even 90 minutes of conversation, from lost to found, from blind to seeing, from dual to nondual.
Abiding awareness consciousness bliss
Sat Chit Ananda
Tat Tvam Asi
And so, Ashtavakra’s song ends: “what more is there to say?”
I've been reading this aloud for many years, so here it is now to the world.
