I just found out that this was the plane my grandfather flew during WW2. I wish he had told me more about his experience.

If his airplane was ever lost there should be an accident or loss report on file.

@@jimmiller5600 No, it was never shot down or destroyed. He served in the Marines from July 16 1943 to May 1, 1944 with the _Red Devils_ squadron as a navigator/gunner. He was then pulled off active duty for pilot training in a Curtis Helldiver, but the war ended before he could redeploy. He never talked about his service before passing away, and I'm trying my best to understand what he and others like him went through.

@@Antidragon-nl7by Background: If you want to see his service record search for "Fold Three". Lotsa data available. Or you can contact the National Archives and leave a request. That's where we started in tracking down "our" Avenger gunner. He had to bail out when there was a maintenance foul-up so we were able to even find his plane's crash report. Then we bought a nice (kinda expensive) wood model of the TBM asked if he wanted to put that tail number on it. He said "hell no, that sob tried to kill me". Good old Uncle Stan. Good luck.

My great grandfather was drafted to France in 1943 and served in the army. He never talked about it. I asked my grandmother and my father about his deployment and neither of them could tell me anything about it. I wish I could have talked to him myself but he passed away 6 years before I was born.

@@UltraMagaFan When you say drafted to France, do you mean he faught in the French army, or that he was deployed to France? It was probably a horrible experience either way; his service is appreciated.
