When you don't use your creativity it dies and it takes a lot to bring it back to life. Your employer owes you the agreed upon vacation time. Zero reason for guilt! Imagine if on your next payday you were like "Nah, I'm good. I'm so loyal and such a hard worker I don't need the pay you agreed to give me." Sounds crazy.

Hey beautiful!! Great advice!! I'm so glad you are getting that well deserved vacation in Dallas. I DID everything possible to get to that event. I did put in for vacation. It would have started today from Target. They fired me right before my vacation and the company says they don't have to pay me. According to Texas law, if you're fired or quit before using your accrued vacation or sick time, companies don't have to pay it. So yes, everyone...listen to Regina Michelle!! Take those vacations. They cheated me out of 104 vacation hours. I was punished for telling the truth. Hopefully, I will meet up with y'all at the next event. Blessings to all🌷

Char Where I live is the same way & where I live they will fire you for nothing. Walmart fires people when they have worked for 18 years there just so they don't have to pay for retirement! and short story that is why I'm reselling, sad to say any job i can get is less secure then running my OWN business. My husband has a union job but I can tell you that they tried to put it in the contract they did not have to pay OT until after 20 hours of working over. I hope you are OKAY.

Although I agree that this system of working people from 9am-5pm, or from 7am-3pm, or sometimes working for 10 or 12 hours, is really unfair, I do want to say this coming from a late male boomer, one who is Black at that. A lot of brothers, especially in my first career, which was a security officer, getting anything near 9am-5pm, with weekends, was a blessing. Before that, I often found myself working the midnight shift, without weekends, or the 4-12pm shift without weekends. Plus you could get fired at the drop of a hat. I didn't taste 9-5 as a security officer until I got a job in the federal government as a guard, and my weekends still didn't come until later...then they took that away. I remember as soon as I got that job as a guard in the government, I immediately went back to college part time, and finally graduated with a bs in IT. I then transferred to an IT position in the federal government. That's when I thought I was in heaven at first, working 9-5, with permanent weekends, with an hour and a half lunch breaks, sitting down most of the day, without being forced to be on my feet all day. But that IT position practiced more racism than my guard position, to the degree I was forced out, and had to get a lawyer for early retirement at age 44. Luckily, I retired with the IT position, and not the guard position. At 62, I was switch to regular retirement, and wound up with 37 years of creditable service, then applied for early SS. I also paid my house off at 44, although I had to move South. But when I listen to your video, and hear gen z calling out this whole 9-5 scheme, although I made out pretty good, I feel I went through a lot of things that were unnecessary. If you really read my story, it took The Most High to rescue me, and bring me were I am today. I came very close to falling through the cracks, and becoming homeless, when that IT job forced me out. I'll be 63 tomorrow. When I first started as a guard, I must have been told by at least one older person to get at least one career, whether it be as a janitor, a guard, a mail clerk, or whatever, and just stick to it. And that later, other doors and other opportunities would eventually open. And they were right. I went from a security officer, to an IT security officer, just by remaining focused on at least something. Although I obviously ran into some storms, that big jump in pay as an IT professional, is what enabled me to retire that early in the first place. As for now, be thankful for what you got, and do not just up and quit your career until you're sure that other door is open. With my story, and with your insight, perhaps you will also become Financially Independent and Retired Early (FIRE). Oh, and like you said, continue to treat yourself nice through all this!

The frog story has a different meaning. The point is that when you, "turn up the heat" slowly little by little, the frog keeps adapting and stays there until he gets to the point where he CAN'T jump out, because he's too weak. Versus, if you just dropped a fresh frog into hot water, it would immediately jump out. The moral is, long term stress that builds up is debilitating, until you get to the point where you don't have the energy to do anything about your situation. So do something early on, while you still can.
