Transalpina (DN67C). This is the part of the travel I have looked forward to the most - and was the most nervous about. The road is 148 km or 92 miles long and is one of the highest roads in the Carpathian Mountains. I had no idea what to expect, and I’m blown away by the landscape above the treeline. It is like another planet, and I feel extremely far away from everything in the world. Not having any signal in my phone makes it scarier for me, as I don’t have a satellite phone and don’t have experience with this kind of environment. What if something happens?
At the same time, not having a security backup and access to the outside world makes me feel radically present. I climb up a mountain and see my car as a tiny dot within a vast landscape: the mountains look like they extend infinitely to every direction. The pace of life and my bodymind slows down, and I am content just being.
This video does not do justice to any of these feelings. The scale of these two days cannot not come across in seven minutes. It is something to be experienced, and something I wish I get to do longer in the future.
