The cycle was complete, a life lost for a life saved. The horses gave back the life that was lost for them. The feeling of hope and hopelessness from this story is profound. Phenomenal story. The description of her father's progression through the treatment was from a place of experience. It changes behavior and whittles them down so far that you wonder what would be left even if they do recover. I was a child when my mom had to see her mom go through it. I have to say I got chills when the horses appeared. I feel like they could be an alternative version of the Kelpie. There's a place in Palo Duro canyon in Texas where hundreds of Comanche horses were slaughtered by the US Army. The screams of the horses are still heard. The noises in the rain, could be both human and animal, the screams of terror sound remarkably similar.

My MIL went through breast cancer, and though she got „lucky“ in that she got an operation almost immediately and could avoid chemo, she still had to do radiotherapy for months afterwards. It’s a kind of exhaustion you can’t fully explain. She was just drained. And radiotherapy means they blast concentrated radiation onto the op spot. It is the worst type of sunburn you’ve ever had - and, see you again in a few days! You have zero time to recover, because that would mean overlooked cancer cells get to recover again. So it’s just constant blasting, killing the bad cells faster than the good ones. Cancer sucks.

I definitely see what you mean about a certain atmosphere. This story has a similar vibe to the “the thing in the garden has been telling me the most awful things” or whatever it was called. loved this story!! the character’s fear for her dad felt like such a fitting connection to the feeling of drowning. i think that the fear the aunt looked at the mc with before she got taken under wasn’t for herself-it was because she realized someone was following her. before that moment, she had just been casually walking INTO the floodwater, seemingly without worry. lowkey, imagining she’s a spirit followed by undead horses, all working together to protect as many people as they can from drowning, is metal as fuck 🤘

I own horses myself. And all I want to say is…the connection between human and horse can be pure bliss. If you have a bond with your horse, it’s basically like owning a big dog. With hooves. I love it when the creepy thing in the story isn’t necessarily bad. (Or good for that matter) and winds up staying a mystery. It was done just right so that it was not constantly showing up and getting repetitive, but have enough info pointing towards it so we knew who/what it was. I also am a sucker for stories where these creatures help the MC, maybe not in a way that’s obvious until the end. It’s a nice refresher from the MC being chased through the wood/laboratory/city in fear. Nothing is wrong with those stories, but it’s a nice change of pace. Of course it’s also very well narrated, and the sound design is stellar! Always something great to listen to while I draw.

Just listened to both City of Korona and Tales from the Dogscape, I think I have an idea of what you mean by these stories have a certain mood to them. Each of these stories has a narrator who has resigned themselves to live in an interesting world without asking the how or why they are there, we are hearing someone who has accepted their fate and will not take the reins to figure out how they can get out of it. Yes atmosphere, that’s a good way to put it. Every story of yours I listen to really immersed me because of the atmosphere and it’s the reason I can’t listen to anyone else, they don’t put in the effort like you do

Everyday I listen to creepypasta at work, your channel is always the first I go to, to check for new posts! Love your narrations, keep up the good work! This story definitely had an immersive feel as you alluded to, only wish is that it went longer as the ending felt rushed but that's out of your control. Awesome production all the same.

I love this story. It's so good, it almost feels professional in quality. The voice actors/narrators also did a great job.

This was an evocative story, beautifully told, that made me remember things that I haven't thought about for a while; my Dad's stroke, my husband's treatments for KS, and when my neighborhood got fooded when I was in Junior High! Keep up the good work! 😎

By far you add the most depth and like you said atmosphere to your tellings. No one else comes close and I like a lot of narrators, but your another level.

Dark Somnium, Romnox, Big Daddy Stone, and Nature's Temper make up the most versatile and talented storytellers on KZitem. Narrator doesn't do it justice because they're straight up voice actors - as well as skilled producers! Also, critically under-discovered/supported. Thanks for another awesome story, folks!

I believe that "mood" you're talking about is melancholic. But there's something else there, like the narrator has reservations about telling the story in the first place. Like they're worried about rubbing off that sadness on other people, but if they don't it'll drive them mad.
