Your air filter is an oil bath. These were once quite common. My '56 Ford and '53 Olds Rocket had them. Old school works well. I'd keep it.

An aggressive, loping, _da dum da dum da dum_ idle is natural for an 'odd fire' 225. Don't expect it to sound smooth as a V8 or 'even fire' (split crank journal) V6 They fire at 90 - 150 - 90 - 150 - 90 - 150 degrees of crank rotation rather than the 120 - 120 - 120 ... of a 90 degree V8. It gives them tons of torque at low RPM, great for off roading. When you're having that much trouble starting a dauntless, especially after she's been sitting a while, flood the carburetor and work it through. Bypass the heater.

The 2GC carb has a filter built in the carb. You may want to check it for debris. Offy makes a 4bbl intake.

TA Performance has some stuff for the 225 also KB if you can find it. My 67 likes about 15 advance. I am running 2 1/4 duals with H pipe and Flowmaster's also HEI with 8mm wires. This is in my 67 Buick Special Deluxe with the 2 speed switch pitch trans. It ran 18s in lacr and Pomona in CA.

The metal door on the distributor cap goes next to the vacuum advance, it's set up to adjust the points without removing the cap. So it's ether on backwards or it's the wrong cap. Witch also means your probably 180°off on the timing. It runs as is. But you'll never get it right untill you fix the distributor.

Can't see it in the end, but I flipped her 180 and that's how I got the beast to fire. Thanks for your comment!

@@waltersunrise1584 There are different distributor caps for this family of engines. Make sure yours is the 'odd fire' distributor and cap for a Dauntless.

Your distributor is 180 degrees out, that window on the distributor cap should be facing the front by the points. Search for a video on how to time the Buick 225 225 V6, it's a 2 part video

Beth it's called an oil bath filter. Walter turns turns better moving than dead stopped. Rolling tires turn better.

Man, this is like taking a trip down memory lane. My first vehicle was a 48 CJ2A and I cut my teeth on a 67 Jeepster Commando. Every day I drove to high school was an adventure in keeping it alive. Young man, you are doin it right. Oh, and get yourself a dwell meter, your gonna need it!
