The second half is just pure latter-day Townshend; an eloquent, reflective, and heartfelt commentary on his own song but from the perspective of the other end of a long and distinguished career. I do wish John had been able to chime in with his thoughts, especially since he didn't have much longer to live here, but he would probably have used the opportunity for a bit of his trademark morbid humor.

Beyond the simple positve votes for The Who, as someone who was 20 when they actually wrote this stuff, I have to remark on Roger's perfect, absolutely perfect, management of this song live. He does not stretch to notes he can no longer reach and he plays nicely, but not stupidly, to the audience. What a beautiful practitioner of his art. I look at Roger and think "wow, what a superb example of grace with the wisdon of age". Only Robert Plant can equal this level of eloquence. Hats off.

Moon is the only drummer as far as I know who plays a melody with a non-melodious instrument. Pete's clearly the best rhythm guitarist ever (has been measured, the hits are at 0,001sec precies). And a genius songwriter. John holded the band together by filling the holes in the music and he plays a lot of the solo's and vocals of course. But his play isnt as complex as Bruces. Anyone know the "inside story" on Townsend and Roger? RIght at the very end, when Roger is singing the closing bars in that falsetto voice, you can see Pete trying not to crack up, then doing the quick "accidental" flipping the bird to Roger while using his middle finger to rub his cheek. Looked like some inside joke. Love this version of the song though. Everyone just nails it - Zak pounding like the drums looking like Keith Moon, John over there ripping it up on bass, and of course Roger and Pete. There is a LOT of talent on that stage. I happened to grow up in the era where my parents and grandparents made a habit of slamming the rock musicians for "not having any musical talent", so now, decades later when I look back, watch videos and listen I just shake my head at that assessment. And unlike most of the :elevator music" they listened to on the news station, these guys also wrote the music they performed, and here we are, 50 years later, still enjoying the hell out of it. Can't think of many artists we listened to in 1970 that recorded their work in 1920.
