Just found this in late 2023…my then fiancé and I had just arrived in LA and already were Venice Beach skaters and over 32 years later (30 years married) we still love The La’s…Sherry was soon to be working for KROQ and it’s frustrating to know we just barely missed this chance to take in their live set on blades…all these years later and we still occasionally miss amazing shows here in LA (kinda comes with the territory). Anyway here’s to you gobias1! Thanks for posting!

its so surreal seeing the LA's at venice beach. Two such polar phenomena. Its as strange as if a newly formed betles time travelled and landed on venice beach in the 90's. Think of the music in america at the time, this must have been so alien.

my thoughts exactly dfpguitar, just so totally different, grungy alt rock and hip-hop/rap would have been huge? And this? It's hard to define what it is, but it's ridiculously British. A great juxtaposition. This is some time before Oasis were huge, America wouldn't have seen much that looked, or sounded like the Las back then in a LONG TIME. Also, I bet Anton Newcombe was in that crowd somewhere.

America is a huge country, grunge never dominated everywhere. The indie scene was full of jangly guitar bands, have you heard of REM? The Byrds came from California as did the Beach Boys. There She Goes was a well known song in the early 1990s in America.

T. Zappa it was a movement in the uk mid 90’s culture and music. The opposite to the grunge scene over in the us. Like Noel Gallagher said nirvana had a tune out called ‘I hate myself and I want to die’ so he wrote live forever. It’s about being British in the 90’s.
