Part of me is quite happy with them being "my band", there's a buzz from meeting fellow La's fans that you wouldn't get with hipster-adopted, mainstream stuff that people like because they're told to. It's clear Lee wasn't arsed about recognition / fame (he even says this literally in interviews). It only makes sense the fans of his music feel the same. Robbie Williams covering There She Goes at his gigs is not something I think about when I'm enjoying The La's :D

I presume this is the performance Clapton saw on TV back then - 'I’m very out of step at the moment. The only thing I’ve really liked is a guy called Lee Mavers, who sings with the La’s. He’s got a stance and a style that I think is tremendous. I saw them do a thing on TV with him and an acoustic guitar and the bass player with an acoustic bass, and they did that song “There She Goes,” and it was so strong. I think that’s what it’s about for me...the craft.'
