My Father Joined the 5th R.I.D.G. when they were recruiting in the Greater Manchester area, I believe as a stable boy. He would have been a Corporal at the time of this show, and was riding regularly as a representative of the 5th at public events, and at Point to Point races representing the Regiment. He definitely knew Sgt Major Jack Clayton well, and was a Sergeant himself well before the mechanization. He hated losing the horses, his horse remained in India, as he was seconded to the Indian Army at the time. He arrived home in England just in time to be in the final parade with horses. One year later, He and his crew and tank were blown up by a German tank shortly before Dunkirk, and he returned home on a stretcher. As soon as he was fit for duty he was sent to Sandhurst, and shortly became a Captain of the 5th R.I.D.G./ R.A.C. Demobbing and resigning his commission after VE or maybe VJ day. He was a consummate horseman and taught me skills that would enable me to ride even to this day. My father rejoined his 5th R.I.D.G. comrades, and his horses in 1992. RIP.

My grandad was in the regiment at the same time. He joined in 1935/6. He was also evacuated from Dunkirk and was injured. Medically discharged in 44. Then worked on the railways. I would love to know more about his time with the Skins.

Great to see this. My Grandfather's regiment. He was regimental farrier up until 1921. My family and have an album of photographs, including panoramic photos of the Delhi Durbar in 1911. My grand father ;Robert Rose was extraordinarily strong and an all round athlete and winner of the Empire medal for marksmanship. Went to night school and taught himself civil engineering and had a second career. They don't have make them like that anymore, he was absolutely fearless!

It was in a video the regiment produced in 1985 to commemorate the Tri-centenary of it's formation. I don't know who has the original.
