Hey everyone! This video is later than normal as we had a tough time with copyright, and had to do more editing than we would like for it to be available. None the less, we hope you enjoy!

Some points about Joel: he didn't hear Henry and Sam because he had rolled over onto his good ear, leaving his bad one upright. And the reason for that is that he was completely exhausted. Keep in mind that he had stood guard overnight, driven throughout the day, fought for his life, then climbed 33 (probably actually 32, since many buildings don't have a "13th" floor) flights of stairs. I'm surprised he was able to stay on his feet that long.

Hi David! I guess adrenaline has a big part to play in keeping going. I imagine when you feel you have made it to what you feel is a safe place, you relax a little and the exhaustion takes over. Good point on his bad ear! Thank you for commenting ☺️

Joel lost the 3 people he had been most connected to for 20 years in a matter of days. He's in deep grief whether he admits to it or not hence his attempt to push Ellie away with the "you are cargo" comment. Complex PTSD too since the weekend the world fell apart. The fact that he is able to connect to Ellie at all is remarkable under the circumstances. That's something that is much better shown with live action I feel.

Pedro Pascal is doing a fantastic job portraying Joel. The podcast we discussed in the other comment did a great job about the little details that Pedro is bringing to the role to get these complex emotions across. The technology in the games is fantastic, but I agree with you that live action allows an amazing actor to take it to another level!

Those bodies were probably burned because they were infected. Remember that Joel was on "burn the bodies" detail in the QZ back in episode one. Btw, the bearded guy is the guy who played Tommy in the game.

Hey Darryl, that's true 👍 I guess the purpose of zooming into the body pile was to show us that there were people active in this area, and a warning of the impending attack to Joel and Ellie

country skies in US look like that, before the house plats come in think can see where this show might be going - hope seriously wrong... thinking something different coming from sinkhole - don't want to spoil it

Ooh, sounds like you have lots of theories! I assumed the sinkhole was for the bloater, which we've seen in next weeks tease. I can't quite work out how Sam, Henry, Joel, Ellie, Kathleen, Bearded Tommy and the Bloater is going to resolve this Saturday!

Kathleen's bearded right-hand is Tommy's voice actor in the game. As I understand it, Henry is responsible for Kathleen's brother death by betrayal. I guess he betrayed them because Fedra threatened Sam. I think Kathleen's brother was the leader of the resistance movement and she was probably the mom of the troops. That's the only reason I can imagine why the group follows her at all, so insecure and focused on revenge she seems. The bottom line is that she has absolutely understandable reasons. Just as good reasons as anyone else on the show and Joel wouldn't do anything else. Shows again that no group is good or bad. Joel's poor hearing has been shown throughout the episode. He always sleeps on the right side and Ellie often had to repeat when she called Joel. The glass on the floor worked, Joel just didn't hear it because he was turning in his sleep. Sam and Henry are younger than Joel. So the two will have been a few floors up and then probably heard how Joel broke the glas and how the two laughed. Then they wait until they have fallen asleep and go down to them. The only criticism so far is really the lack of brutality shown by Joel, because that is very important. Firstly, Joel was brutal and ruthless and secondly, it makes Abby more comprehensible in her actions in TLOU part 2. Which is the whole point. It's not about killing a lot of people, it's about how he does it. I think it is a mistake not to show this in all its brutality. The show still has to improve and I hope it will be later. It just has to. Btw... I still believe that Ellie pocketed the two grenades that fell at her feet when Tess had her heroic death. I think the bloater will get to eat them.

Thank you for the insight Coyote! We just watched the episode for the second time and picked up on some extra things this time around. Your point about no good or bad is very relevant for Last of Us. That makes sense on Sam and Henry as it was an apartment, so I would assume only one point of entry. The fight scene in the laundromat is a lot more brutal in the game, i.e smashing someone into the sharp glass. I guess its harder to make Joel likeable with that much brutality in a live action TV series. Great theory on the grenades! Very excited for a bloater fight next week!
