I hope it’s only the last renovation vlog of 2019, and not the absolute last. I’ve so enjoyed watching your journey - it’s been really I inspiring to see how much can be done with a little googling and some savvy secondhand purchases. You’ve done a brilliant job!

I have had a similar experience doing renos each winter with my husband, we find that we have become so good at knowing each others limitations and responding to stress better each time we do a project. I love the fact that when we look at all the rooms we have finished it gives each of us so much pride to know that we completed it ourselves and the fact that it looks amazing not to mention the savings!

Your front door should stand out but the bin shed should pretty much disappear. The front door is important and you don’t want to give the bin shed equal attention or importance. So the bin shed in a colour that blends into the house colour so it disappears and the front door to compliment the house and draw attention to draw and welcome people. 😉👍😃. Wallpaper will suit your traditional home sooooooo beautifully. It’s just asking for it honestly. 😉👍 Proper wall preparation and the quality of today’s wallpaper makes it much less scary. Fabulous Q&A!! 👏😃

Regarding trades....having gone through a similar situation myself, we’ve found that if you ask the tradesmen that you know (and trust) to recommend someone, you’re more likely to have success getting someone new in. Often tradesmen work together on big projects. They’ll see who works well and who doesn’t. They’ll also know if there’s anyone who is between big projects and who has the time to take on smaller projects.

Thanks for this, It does make sense to ask them as I am sure they will know who is reliable! I will be asking our plasterer for recommendations and fingers crossed we find a builder :)

While we were working on our renovation we had a valuation done and it worked out that for every £1000.00 we had spend it put £10,000.00 of value on to the property, but it does slow down the longer you go on, value wise you can end up with negative equity.
@LauraMelhuishSprague

Well that would be amazing, well done on such a successful reno! I am not sure we will achieve that but some profit will be nice. Having said that by the time we come to sell I am sure it will need a revamp again :)

We had a similar experience to you when viewing our house. We booked to see it but when we got there, no estate agent turned up! There are two roads in two villages next to each other with the same name and they had gone to a property on the other road (even though we'd been specific)! It was the end of the day and the local office was closed so the person who was meant to be showing it couldn't get the right keys. We ended up getting put through to the head office who managed to get a hold of the owner (they didn't live there but down the road) who kindly showed us round. I was very emotional when I thought we weren't getting to see it so I think i'd already decided it was our house. And getting shown round by the owner definitely made a difference for us too - the other bid was from someone who wanted it as a holiday home but they gave it to us despite being a bit lower as they liked us and we wanted to actually live there!

Thoroughly enjoying your renovation vlogs so far, you two are inspiringly hardworking! At least with how things work in the U.S, the renovations and improvements should already allow you to get a higher appraisal value on the property (congrats on already building yourselves more equity in the house), which means you should be able to remortgage for more cash-out for that extension, depending on whether or not you'll be comfortable with the higher monthly. Looking forward to seeing what you guys do to the house in the coming years!

Hi Laura and Ollie, I've been following your renovation journey all year. Thank you for being so candid about money. As a first time buyer, who is currently trying to buy my own Victorian house, it's so refreshing to hear about your journey - so thank you! Just a quick question, you mentioned that you found someone who created KZitem content about painting kitchen cabinets - this is exactly what I've been looking for! The property were buying has high gloss cabinets which I'd like to change the colour of, but I'm not sure if it's even possible! Does this man have any content on this? If you're able to sent any recommendations, that would be amazing! Thank you, Camila x

Hi Camila! How exciting, you are going to love getting stuck into your first home! The person I mentioned was Mark Nash (kzitem.info/rock/SktPvuY01tyET_G_0rsiVgvideos). He specialised in wooden kitchens and so I am not sure if it will be any help. I couldn't recommend Holman Paints ( holmanpaints.co.uk/ ) more though. They are so helpful over the phone and we get all our paints delivered from them as we aren't local. Hope that helps and sorry for the slow reply. x

Are you planing to live in this home forever? Because you say it’s your dream home but also speak of making money back with the renovation etc.? I think it’s quite normal in England to buy and sell several houses throughout your life, right? Where I‘m from most people buy their forever home during their 30ies and truly live there forever :D
@LauraMelhuishSprague
4 жыл бұрын
I guess I would say it is our dream home, for now :). We plan on it being very long term but I very much doubt it will be forever. As you say, it just seems normal in the UK to move house, especially from your first home.
