You really seem to be enjoying yourself again, (at least outwardly) its good to see and your vids reflect the (more real?)enthusiasm. As usual your cinematography is probably the best on KZitem.

0:10 I seriously love that intro picture. & I love the NO SLEEP sweat shirt. I love those timelapses. The dark with all the lights. It is like a different planet. Alien. Full of super intelligence. Thanks for all the history on the lawless city. THAT PICTURE 03:41 My gosh it looks like masses of fuses in a an electric junction box. Looks so cramped and squashed into a tiny space. How could so many have all lived together in one place. WOW. & 12:23 That place was came from another planet surely :) So the WALL was full of shops. & businesses I get it now. I never seen anything like it before. So compact and dense. Hanging clothes out the sides. Gardens on the balconies and roofs. All of it looks real interesting. Must have always been so much to see. & WOW there is that 09:00 from that picture I like at 0:10. Awesome 09:34 I love the music. 10:46 Oh no you got ages to wait for the bus. All on your todd. 6am checked into hostel. Not seeped yet. Maybe you need to sleep all tomorrow. DID YOU?

The chances are that you would not have been able to film much of anything in the Kowloon Walled City. Armed police wouldn't dare be there alone and they didn't want outsiders to pry into their lives. You would have been forced to leave in short order. That wasn't like Hong Kong is now, or how it was outside that area. That was where the criminals, the broken, the down-and-out lingered. They lived in substandard housing, they lived in conditions that were appalling. There were junkies, worn out prostitutes, counterfeiters, Mafiosi, etc. Be glad that it's gone. It only survived as long as it did because There weren't resources enough to take it on.

The key point about the walled city was that although the surrounding territory was leased to the British and under British control, the walled city was an enclave that was under Chinese control and nobody really enforced the laws there on an ongoing basis. That was why gambling, drugs, prostitution, etc were able to flourish. Eventually the situation become intolerable and an agreement was reached where the city would be demolished.

That cross-sectional map/diagram (seen from 5:22) of the buildings was actually made by teams of Japanese 'crazies' who went into the evacuated city and drew plans of the buildings, dwellings and shops within. HK authorities were to scared to go in and do the documentation ...
