I watched this on TV when I was 12 in 1979. I can still vividly recall that I was sick with fright and revulsion when the demon with the scissors jumped up to shave Aslan, and they were all laughing. I knew Aslan represented Jesus, bit nothing I saw or heard in church as a child scared me the way the scene from this cartoon did! And at the end, when the kids accidentally went back to WW2 Era England, and lost Narnia and their adulthood, that actually hurt me somehow 😢

Did you catch that at the beginning of this cartoon, it incorrectly states that "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" is the first book of the Chronicles of Narnia, which is actually the second book of the series, as the first book is "The Magicians' Nephew" (chronologically speaking, not publication wise), where Professor Kirk is a little boy in Victorian England! In that book, it tells of how Narnia came to be, as well as the magical wardrobe, among other fascinating details like the lamp post, etc. "The Magicians Nephew" was written in 1954, published in '55, but was set prior to "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" which was published in 1950 In my copy of the Chronicles of Narnia book series, it opens up with "The Magicians Nephew" as the first in the series of seven. As a little boy, my mother and I wore out those books because we read them so much! One Christmas when I was little, my parents bought me the giant hardcover book version which had all seven books compiled into one big volume!! It was one of my favorite Christmas presents ever!!!

I'm seeing this cartoon for the very first time and the movie version is surprisingly look so accurate to this in almost every scene. Yea I know it's form the same story... it should be alike. But what I meant is when you have already seen both version and trying to compare the difference but see only a few is pretty impressive. And how Edmund talks to the Witch on the slade, the scene like wolves chasing, the horror of Aslan sacrifice, and many other small details are almost exactly like the new movie version and it's give me chills. Pretty sure this cartoon also played big role in inspiring how they made the movie the way it was.

I love to be able to relate to people like you it's so good to know that we're still in the world I hated Edmond two and then I thought about it have not as land not die for Edmond Edmund would have been dead and the prophet prophecy of freedom would have never been able to happen in Narnia and then another thing is Edmond needed someone to forgive him after aslan forgave Edmund and told them to never speak of it again that was the best way to describe the way God wants us to forgive and had admin not had anyone to believe in him and forgive him he wouldn't have never went on to fight so vigorously to destroy the Red witch or at least slow her down to the plain where they gave God a chance to come and when the final battle

It seems so old now, but at the time, it was only like 15 or 16 years old, lol. Omg this makes me feel dated. It was a great little cartoon. I've seen this one so many times, and the modern version quite a few times and read the book god only knows how many times. And my dad read it many of those times when I was little. Chronicles of narnia is a wonderful magical series.

This was my first encounter with the material. The one that inspired me to search the depths of the front coat closet. I never found Narnia, but there was always the hope every time I checked. It seemed possible. It would've been nice to have shared this memory with my daughter. She's gone now, but she was the truest believer ever. She would've appreciated her daddy looking for Narnia as a child. I can only hope to meet her there someday.

@@giustobuffo from what I've researched is that when this was made back in the late 70s early 80s it was meant to be an educational film in schools to encourage young children to read more books, it came out in America also but they thought some of the characters voices sounded too English and not American enough so they kept some character voices the same Peter and Lucy and Aslan etc but re-voiced the rest to make it more relatable to Americans, hope that answers your question 🙂

@@robertdoherty5316 I saw this version in America when it was first shown, rather than the American accent version. It was perfectly relatable and easy to understand. There was really no need to make an additional version with American voices. I just saw the other version here on YT. The queen's yelling was over-the-top in that one. Rather annoying, really.

I believe I read that Aslan wasn't meant to just symbolize Christ. He was literally meant to be the same being we know as Jesus Christ. In a world of Talking Beasts, He of course would appear as a Talking Beast, just as He appeared as a man in our world. In Voyage of The Dawn Treader Lewis wrote “I am [in your world].’ said Aslan. ‘But there I have another name. You must learn to know me by that name. This was the very reason why you were brought to Narnia, that by knowing me here for a little, you may know me better there.”
