Im on a weightloss mission. From 98 to 89. Started with increased amount of step per day from 5000 to 10000. Also added some cardio along with being in 500-700 defecit. But then I heard about the Caloric Setpoint, and that I could mess that up being in defecit. So I went ahead and changed diet to 100% Carnivore + MCT oil, cutting almost all carbs. Went back to 2000 kcal though. Down to 10-30 grams per day at the most. Doing mostly 21/3 hours Intermittent Fasting. Im on days 18 on carnivore, but been on weightloss mission for 7 weeks. Dropped from 98 kg to 91 now. When I reach 89 in two weeks, I will gradualy bring back som carbs and stay around 25% carbs, 50% meat, and 25% veggies on my plate. Need to find the new balance.

According to Ayurveda and many ancestral dietitians, especially ghee and butter are healthy fats for us and because of the butyrate content also very beneficial for the gut microbes and people with ibs, even the butyrate content is marginal from what I have seen. I did a bit of research and it seems like besides raising LDL cholesterol, saturated fat, especially palmitic is linked to all sorts of health issues and diseases and palmitic acid also induces leaky gut and alter the gut microbiome and it is the fatty acid that raises LDL cholesterol the most. That’s what study’s have shown. I don’t have any degree and I’m not a dietitian and I have no idea if I can interpret science correctly. I’m just interested in nutrition and I also don’t have a bias towards a specific diet whether from a health or ethical standpoint. I ask myself why these people claim that ghee and butter are healthy fats when palmitic acid is the primary fatty acid in both of them and when both fats are the fats with highest amount of saturated fat and the highest amount of palmitic acid right after palm and coconut oil? I would really appreciate if someone clarify and explain if I’m wrong or right, where these claims come from and seperate fact from fiction if ghee and or butter are healthy fats for people with ibs and a wrecked gut microbiome. Thank you very much

Other nutrient deficiencies are the problem; copper being the biggest one. Hypothyroidism, iodine/selenium, copper/zinc/iron, Vit A/D deficiencies. Gut infections too since those drain the thyroid towards hypothyroidism, as thyroid hormone is converted to an iodine containing anti-oxidant to fight the infection. All of this creates "cholesterol issues" since cholesterol is just the bandaid used by the body to contain the consequences of these deficiencies and issues. Additionally cholesterol is used as a signalling molecule to the immune system, since invaders value those fats and try to consume them, which is the signal there are invaders. It's amazing most people/researchers are still stuck in looking at nutrients in isolation instead of entire meals. Our natural diet contains cooked starches from roots and tubers (with white rice being the only grain that's ok) which combined with saturated fats creates a low insuline spike and nice continuous slow glucose release. There's a reason that combination is so tasty, and it's because the brain knows it's the right way to eat those foods. It's what and how we eat things that's the problem. Deep fried/baked carbs, wrong carbs, wrong fats, lack of a whole host of micronutrients, baked/charred meat, that's the problem!
@advex4428

The study was likely not done with butter and ghee. Scientists in general don't understand how variables influence each other. E.g., they likely test with refined saturated fat. Then they think their result is valid for every food that contains a shred of natural saturated fat, even though the body understands the compound, which also comes with Vitamins A, D and K, plus many more micronutrients, in a completely different way. That said, there is likely a goldy locks zone for the use of butter. You cannot shovel in a couple kilos per week. Better than looking at studies about a refined compound, would be to look how healthy, fit people eat, vs how obese and sick people eat.

Does no one think the body is smart enough to burn both at the same time or one right after the other? It doesn’t make practical sense that we could only burn one fuel source. I don’t think anyone can prove one way or the other, all these studies have bias one way or other.

I appreciate your discussion backed with scientific data. That is why I am a subscriber to your channel. I have a health science background and totally understand your explanation. However, for the average public, it would not be comprehendible without breaking the information down to simple terms. I can't forward this video to most people I know without having to define ROS, insulin resistance and their effects. I would have to explain it and then summarize it into layman terms. The summary that would help them appreciate the data is that the high consumption of fat and carbohydates leads to greater fat gain. It's worse for those who are already heavy and would lead to the worsening of insulin resistance, leading to the inability to lose fat weight. Transfats, which are in most restaurant fried foods and carbohydates such as French fries and bad processed seed oils found in breads, further damage the cells. The resulting ROS created leads to inflammation and more fat gain compounding the overall problem. Replacing carbohydates with protein....etc.. Adding a quick layman's summary at the end will help increase your audience. This also helps the scientifically educated folks who are impatient or have a short attention span. Thomas, excellent info. Thanks!

Which is the wrong take. You want a slow continuous glucose release and that's easy to get with starches from cooked roots and tubers, like (sweet) potatoes, taro etc. (white rice is the only ok grain), combined with... saturated fats in a single meal, along with protein. Even diabetics can consume a normal, moderate amount (800kcal) of carbs that way. Our liver is too small to provide our body with all the glucose we need from protein and fats. So eating insufficient carbs leads to cancer and infectious diseases as the body enters a hypothyroid state, gut lining is impaired (mucus = carbs + protein) and our immune system (which uses glucose to kill invaders) is shut down.

### Key Takeaways from *The Literal Worst Thing to Eat in a Caloric Deficit (if fat loss is the goal)* by Thomas DeLauer 1. **Combination of High Fats and Carbohydrates is Problematic** While staying in a caloric deficit is crucial for fat loss, consuming large amounts of fats and carbohydrates together in one sitting can hinder fat burning. This combination can create metabolic confusion, where the body struggles to decide which fuel source (fats or carbohydrates) to use, leading to inefficiencies at the cellular level. 2. **Reciprocal Regulation of Fats and Carbohydrates** The body’s mitochondria can only metabolize either fats or carbohydrates at one time, as these fuel sources are reciprocally regulated. When carbohydrates are consumed, the body prioritizes carbohydrate oxidation over fat oxidation. However, when both fats and carbohydrates are consumed in excess, the body enters a state of metabolic gridlock. 3. **Metabolic Gridlock and Oxidative Stress** The simultaneous intake of high amounts of fats and carbohydrates can lead to a "traffic jam" at the cellular level, causing increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and oxidative stress. This stress not only damages the cell membrane but can also impair insulin signaling, increasing the risk of insulin resistance and making fat burning more difficult. 4. **Metabolically Unhealthy Individuals are at Greater Risk** People who are metabolically compromised, such as those who are overweight or insulin resistant, are more susceptible to the negative effects of consuming high fats and carbohydrates together. Their mitochondria are less capable of managing the breakdown of both fuel sources, leading to increased oxidative stress and fat accumulation. 5. **Reward System and Cravings** Combining fats and carbohydrates can trigger a strong response in the brain’s reward system, making such foods highly palatable and more likely to be overconsumed. This craving is partly due to the fact that fats and carbohydrates are rarely found together in nature, making this combination feel almost "supernatural" to the body. 6. **Replacing Carbohydrates with Protein Enhances Fat Burning** DeLauer highlights research that shows replacing carbohydrates with protein in a diet, particularly when in a caloric deficit, significantly increases fat oxidation. Protein-rich meals help the body continue burning fat, especially when paired with exercise, making them a more effective option than carbohydrate-heavy meals. 7. **Trans Fats Are Particularly Harmful** Trans fats, such as nine trans-octanoic acid, are poorly broken down by the body’s fat-burning enzymes. These fats accumulate in the cells, increase oxidative stress, and worsen insulin resistance. When trans fats are combined with carbohydrates, the body experiences even more severe metabolic gridlock, further impairing fat oxidation and increasing fat storage. 8. **Criticism of Flexible Dieting** DeLauer challenges the notion of flexible dieting, where people can eat any food as long as they remain in a caloric deficit. He argues that the quality of the food matters significantly, as consuming highly processed foods-especially those combining fats and carbs-can impair fat burning, increase oxidative stress, and damage long-term metabolic health. ### Conclusion Thomas DeLauer's analysis underscores the importance of mindful food choices, particularly when aiming for fat loss in a caloric deficit. The key takeaway is that avoiding the combination of high fats and carbohydrates, especially trans fats and processed foods, is crucial for maintaining efficient fat burning. Substituting carbohydrates with protein and focusing on nutrient-dense, whole foods can optimize fat oxidation and improve metabolic health. While occasional treats are acceptable, consistently consuming high-fat, high-carb combinations is one of the most detrimental habits for those seeking fat loss.

B vitamins is what is needed to stop carbohydrates bad effects. B1 for the nerves. B2 Riboflavin and B7 Biotin are reduced in gut with carb intake.
@lilyew4905
2 сағат бұрын
No, carbohydrates are burned first. The main point is that when there's a high amount of both fat and carbohydates eaten together (pizza, burgers and fries, etc.), the body can't process either efficiently, so more ROS is produced. This ROS causes a lot of cellular inflammation, which causes cellular damage and then leads to more insulin resistance and then fat gain as well as the difficulty to lose the fat weight. Thomas mentioned that when a person is deliberately eating less calories, by simply replacing the carbohydates with protein (keto), the body will preferentially burn more fat. This diet combined with exercise would further improve the fat loss.
