Sekiro was the first game where things started to click. It was the first fromsoft game i beat. Then i went back to all the other games I owned and beat them too (except for elden ring.) Im grateful for sekiro’s existence, and it has made me a diehard fromsoft fan.

Keep doing what you do. You are a king in a league of your own compiling these interviews and the research that goes into each video you make. I'm sure Miyazaki watches these and views it as a love letter from his fans to his team and all the work that went into making these beautiful, masterful games.

The best sword fighting in any game ever in my opinion. I don't know how this style hasn't been cannibalized to death by now. I know it wasn't unheard of before and I know that games like Stars Wars recently have used similar ideas but I expected it to be everywhere with new spins. It's so well done and engaging. This doesn't even begin to touch on everything else that makes the game a masterpiece.

I didn't know Jackson and Livingstone had given him the award personally. That's so cool! I'm happy for Miyazaki there. I'm still pro for difficulty options, because I think that if you're meant to love a game, then after you beat it on easy mode, you'll replay it with the difficulty up. Just like how people beat [Insert Souls Game Here] normally once, then come back to beat it but this time without summons or consumables. It's not a super big deal to me and I don't think it's a subject that we're going to figure out a solution that pleases everybody with in the youtube comments, I just wanted to present a viewpoint and engage the algorithm a little. Excellent job as usual!

It's understandable why people want the difficulty option. I don't blame or begrudge anyone their tastes personally. I only oppose pressuring the maker of the games and the games fanbase to conform to a mechanic that is present in nearly every other game. There are more than one reason people have for not wanting the option there but mine is that if it's not there nobody can be tempted by it when they are frustrated temporarily. Me and others are potentially weak to the temptation to use it even though we know we'll regret it in the long run. Dark Souls and other Fromsoft games filled a giant void that was missing in the gaming world and Miyasaki has been completely vindicated with the success of "Souls Like" influence.

2:37:10 talking about Sekiro being single player, there's this moment in the video: "...bosses can be designed with a single player in mind. Yasuhiro Kitau commented on this stating 'When creating these play spaces we don't have to consider how players will interact with each other in these maps or how they might exploit the space through cooperation. This freedom allows us to focus on the player experience and fully exploit the lack of restrictions associated with creating a multiplayer-based game, allowing our imagination to run wild in these places.'" I found this VERY interesting since most players seem to be allergic to summons (human or otherwise) and so many times people say that the bosses are designed with a single player in mind and are completely trivialized (LOL) and broken by having more than one target for a boss, despite ever since Demon's Souls, co-op has existed. NPC summons are a staple of Souls. Sometimes the games (pretty much) force it upon you. Bosses in co-op (npc or otherwise) get buffed to accommodate the change. But yeah sure, it "wasn't" designed for multiple fighters against a boss. Sure. Reason I'm worked up about this is how it seems to be commonly accepted by the player base at large that summoning is for pathetic losers who need an easy mode. As if it wasn't blatantly obvious that Elden Ring and Lies of P especially are clearly balanced around using the tools provided, including Spirit Ashes and the Specter.
@dondonrv

Thanks for sharing such an insightful message! To be honest, I played 90% of Elden Ring with a summon, and I don't think I ever defeated the Blood Starved Beast without Alfred (after playing Bloodborne multiple times and being my favorite game!) I think players can play the game however they want, as long as they are enjoying the experience, and are playing within the bounds of the game and using everything the game provides them.

Oh..yes, I have a clear understanding of the studio (I guess the right words are "understanding of Miyazaki"). However, I think video prediction of next projects might be best done by other content creators. Honestly, I can't wait to have the channel move exclusively into game design and that means we will be in a time-bubble that is detached from what is happening "currently" (The channel will not be reacting to anything happening outside...even if they are new FromSoftware games) In exchange for that "currentness", my audience will get hyper-focused videos on game design that could not be found elsewhere, ultimately leading to the goal of the channel that is also unique on its own (all of these videos about making games, game design, game direction...should be leading to something for sure..)

In the middle of Lies of P, NG+. I downloaded Sekiro last night. Never finished it. Lies of P has my parry confidence at an all time confidence level. FromSoft is elite.

Sekiro is the one FromSoftware games I haven't played yet. This really has piqued my interest now and I may need to finally pick it up. Love seeing your videos pop up in my feed. Thank you!

Sekiro being so well loved gave me hope in gaming. Since then, more and more games have fallen into the trap of "handholding = inclusivity", to the point where it becomes annyoing (God of War: Ragnarok for example). As said in the video, you can have a really difficult game that has tons of accessibility options (more pronounced audio or visual cues, color blindness etc), especially in a game like Sekiro that doesn't punish you having slow reactions, it punishes you not paying attention. I do love Elden Ring, but as with the Souls series it has very abusable skills and magic and does not give the same sense of accomplishment as Bloodborne or Sekiro. I had to manually nerf myself by not using the strongest skills, spirit summons and co-op, and even then the only difficulty was found in bosses designed to be beaten with coop or spirits (Godskin duo etc). With Sekiro, every fight felt fair but challenging, and if it did not feel fair I had to contemplate what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks for sharing! This is the reason, though Bloodborne is my favorite Miyazaki game, Sekiro is peak for me in terms of game design.

Thanks for making this documentary. I also hit a wall on Genichiro but I managed to defeat the game and eventually got platinum in PS4. Currently replaying it again on Xbox Series S. Also the 2 games mentioned at the end would be Elden Ring and other game. The other game could be Spellbound but this is still a rumor as far as I know (based on GLAR subreddit) and might not turn out to be true. Only time will tell.

Even tho I never got to appreciate Sekiro, the Tenchu part of the documentary was pretty cool. Tenchu 2 was my favorite game from the PS1 era... I hope they remake Tenchu 1 & 2 someday, it would be cool if it was both in a single game, in chronological order (Tenchu 2, then Tenchu 1).
