Isn't there a province in Spain called Galicia after the Gaels who lived there originally? They migrated to Britain then to Ireland and then to Scotland. They were also called the Scoti by the Romans. So the Scots came from Spain although their travels started even before that. As far as ethnicities go the peoples of Europe share most of the same ancestors in varying degrees. We tend to identify with one nation or another but I believe we are generally of mixed descent from all of them. You can do a DNA test and I guarantee that you will be surprised at what you discover.

Well, the national motto of Scotland hasn’t changed since it was implemented in 1578: “nemo me impune lacessit” - *no one provokes me with impunity* So basically, our ancient national motto is “f**k around and find out!” 😆👏🏻🏴

Back in '76, my ship (USS Milwaukee) pulled into Edinburgh. The great people treated us like royalty. I even had haggis! And Jeeze, it was delicious. But, I had the honor to attend a concert of the Edinburgh pipers!!!!You wan't to talk about a thrill. We had to be in uniform on liberty. You should have seen the people, when they played "God Save the Queen" and my shipmate and I stood at attention and held a salute. (Really love that haggis). =Stefan=

My first encounter with Scottish people was in Nova Scotia where we stopped at a farm to check out some milk cans outside. My wife wanted a couple to decorate. The farmer would not accept our money and gave us two. He later took us into his home to show us his hunting trophies one of which he bagged in his front yard. Entering Nova Scotia there was a Scottish piper welcoming us. Years later we visited Scotland and went to a pub in Inverness and partook of the Haggis after a Ceremony where I asked for more. It was delicious! From that day I thought of myself as a Scot loving their people, their pipes, their food and their traditions. My last name being Thomas I found there was a Campbell clan in Northern Germany where my father was born which reinforced my feelings for the Scots. Now living in Oregon I go to the Highland Games each year for sport, tradition and Cornish pies. incidentally my son, Stephen was born on Robert Burns birthday. "Scotland the Brave" is my favorite number on the pipes and it truly represents them.

Of course, she's the epitome of German-ness. With a Scottish mother, her home in Scotland, her faith the Church of Scotland. Not that I don't think that James II/VII wasn't wrongfully deposed for an absurd reason, but it's hard to call her majesty German.

michael wills yes, but I'm not disputing that her ancestors came from Hanover. Nor do i dispute that some royals were nazi sympathizers. But the Queen was driving army trucks while London was being bombed. And the royals kept Edward VIII in exile for his actions. Oh, and the Nazis blew her London home to smithereens. But totally pro German. Picts came from the continent. Should we brand Scots not native people of Britain because of their foreign ancestors? Are Scots responsible for the poverty and suffering of the French people because they were the bodyguards for the French monarchs? Because Scots have Norman blood because of good old King David, are they responsible for the Norman Invasions of Ireland? Oh, and let's not forget the kicker, that a great portion of lowland Scots people - myself included - who descend from Northumbrian Anglo-Saxon settlement. I've never identified with Germans/Nazis, but I'm interested in hearing about your theory for Nazi identity because of that Saxon blood. Your argument is absurd. Everyone has origins somewhere else, and it doesn't invalidate their identity.

Goosebump central or what ! Pipes and drums, played badly, is enough to send a man insane. But when played by experts, as here, it brings a tear to the eye. I'm lucky enough to live within half an hour of Edinburgh, and have been to the Tattoo many times over the years. This video is great, but to see and hear the whole thing live is unbelievable. @@dominickbenincasa5043 I experienced the feeling the Scots must instill in the enemy. I, as a Company Sergeant Major of the - now sadly disbanded Royal Danish Marines Regt, were sent to "reinforce" the Scots during a NATO maneuvre in the mid 70s, and the orders given were simple: "Feex Baj'nets", "Banners Up", and the Flags rose above to low morning mist. Then - "Drums", and the typical sound of the Scottish drums started up - one at the time. Then the Order "Kill the Barstids" - and the chage started. When we came to the "enemy" positions, they were empty - the opponents wisely chose NOT to face the attack! I´m 73 years old now, and since long retired, but I SHALL NEVER FORGET!!

@@argdanskgreat story - thank you for your service 🇩🇰❤ I’m a Scottish army brat from a huge military family; my dad was a Colour Sergeant in the Royal Scots, my mum was a Sergeant in the Women’s Royal Army Corps, my brother is a Regimental Sergeant Major in the Army Air Corps, one uncle is a Royal Marine, the other is in the SAS, and a cousin is Military Police (not me though, I do nails 😆) Our country is so small, with an even smaller population and historically, we were under attack near constantly lol. Due to the centuries of war and oppression, when our culture was literally against the law (no speaking Gaelic etc. and crucially, banned from owning proper weapons) *I think this is how we got our reputation for bravery and ferocity, and they’re skills we still use today* . “The most dangerous man is one with nothing to lose”. There were battles centuries ago where we mobilised at the last minute, and had no access to real weapons. The enemy thought we couldn’t fight without swords, right? Well, we fought with blacksmith tools, rocks and logs lol. We’ve _always_ been outmanned and outgunned, so we have to give it everything we’ve got on the battlefield, show no fear and no holding back, while also playing smarter 😜 “The first to charge in battle, and the first to charge again”. 🏴
