To all the Mums out there,
You are amazing.
Being a mother requires unrequited love, dedication and sacrifice, and as I come along this journey with you, I am beginning to gain a greater sense of your achievement and resilience. It simply amazes me. Many of you have reached out to me after just falling short in this sitting and I can tell you that I am heart-broken and share your pain.
There is no doubt, your love for your family goes above and beyond anything else, even this exam, and it is important for myself to acknowledge that, so that I can begin to understand how I can help.
I want my greatest achievement to date to be to get you through this exam.
I've organised a session with Dr Lahiru Amaratunge as part of Anaesthesia Coffee Break to discuss the challenges of being a mum in specialist training whilst preparing for a specialist exam with an inspirational mum - Dr Sarah Ritchie - who recently passed. It will be an insightful discussion to hear the strategies they found worked and what changes and pivots they had to make during their studies.
