Being trapped on a boat freaks me out though... especially after all those cruise ships were locked down in 2020...

About to leave on my 7th cruise with my family of 6 this week. Cruising is our favorite way to vacation!

Have to disagree with the hiking/camping opinion. Not sure what its like in America, but here in Australia, if you go out into the bush camping, if your more than an hour from a big town, you'll more than likely have no phone signal. So yes, you take your phone in case something goes wrong, but you'll have no way to use it unless you've downloaded content. I also find for me, a huge part of a 'Dopamine Detox Holiday' is connecting to nature and disconnecting from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and news, for me that's the best part, and i wouldn't be able to do that on a cruise. Recently my husband and i went on a 2 week camping holiday with friends, it was fantastic, we went 4wding, hiking, fishing, exploring unmapped areas, lots of reading and talking, and spent the whole time in nature, a lot of it was with no phone signal.

Cruising is AWESOME. You can either choose to do nothing or get out and explore the ports.

Just leaving wifi works for me, because I'm out in the boonies where there is hardly any data hot spots. 😆 You could also get a no data plan. Then all you can do is call and text. Unless you live in a place like me, then sometimes you can't even do that. You'd need a radio 😆

So maybe I am weird; but I am not on my phone like you and - I guess - so many others are. I use it when I need to but not otherwise. I do not have any social media apps on my phone so there's that too. But yeah, i just never got into the "lets scroll on my phone and look at something neat because I'm board." But again - maybe I am weird.

Same. Northerly cruises sound gorgeous! And I would want to choose the time of year wisely... No guarantee, but my thought is that these combined steps might slightly reduce the number of encounters with unfortunate swimwear, frat party types, and the like?

@@laurenc.590I think that really depends on the cruise line. Some lines are known for their cruises being like one big party. Some lines are geared more toward families, and some are marketed for an older, more mature clientele. It might not be the cheapest, but you can absolutely find a cruise line that caters to more of what you are seeking. 🙂

When I was in high school, I went to a 2 week music camp in the summer. We weren't allowed on our phones for the 1st week, and I think that's one of the main reasons that so many of my strongest friendships were formed there. It's where I met my husband and some of my best friends! We had to *talk* to eachother at meals and during our downtime! I did not miss my phone at all. I wish I could get away from it more as an adult. I'll have to work on that... starting now! 😅😂

I don't allow phones at the dinner table and we aren't allowed on our phones when together unless we say, "I want to take a photo." or "I want to take a video." That's it. I want my time with my family to be where we are together. Any vacation I have ever been on, I have made sure we are focused and that phones are not something we care about, and it has worked beautifully. I hope to go on a cruise one day. They always seem so fun sounding!! Is there a certain one you recommend? I can't go on a vacation cruise for a while, but in a few years, it would be nice to bring my family on one.

Not sure where you're going in the Rocky Mountains, but my phone is useless for anything but the camera when I'm hiking there. I've always wanted to go on a cruise though. I just hate crowds.

I deactivated all my social media accounts, besides YT I guess, and I'm trying and very much struggling with trying to replace all that screen time with Bible and prayer time. I completely agree with you about the phone aspect. But I went to Costa Rica last year on a retreat vacation, so similar to a cruise where it's all mostly planned, and my phone didn't work there either. I'm not saying traveling around a foreign country is safe, but going in the route of a getaway or retreat made it feel very safe as we were always with a group also on it. Anyways long story short, my wife and I had a fantastic trip, we got to meet some fellow Christians that are wonderful people, and we really didn't use our phone that much except for a few pictures here and there because they work anyways.

No thanks abt the cruise, though. Waaaaaaay too many people for any sort of mental reset. I would choose a cabin in the woods or a staycation long before that. You could easily have your phone to get you to said cabin for directions and then just turn it off and leave it in the car once you get there.

You need to have the ability to just put the toys down including the phone. Being on a floating petri dish is not the only way to do it.

Hey Jordan! My parents surprised us with the gift of a cruise for Christmas! Although I’m excited I’m having some anxieties about it, and I was wondering if you could make a video about the tips you guys learned on your cruise for getting the most out of all of it!
