I said this once in another video and I will say it again: Dumb Data is giving skateboarding the sports seriousness that it deserves when creating these analytics content. I know a lot of skateboarders prefer to not take it seriously and go for the more casual fun, but imo this pushes skateboarding to new levels and makes it super appealing for competitive people like you and me. If anything it also offers accountability to the results, and proves the criticism of the event or from the Berrics when it is due. Congrats on your channel Dumb Data, this is something not everyone can pull off👊

eh idk.. impossibles are tricky to judge.. you can wrap the foot and still not get the under rotation of it.. and i think the under rotation is the more important thing.., rather that the foot staying tightly wrapped the whole time.. that one switch impossible still had enough vertical/under rotation to count imo but,, some ppl are more strict than others i guess.. and value different properties of a trick more than others
@debomb721

That’s just not what an impossible is tho, the key feature of an impossible is wrapping your foot, only place I see that not matter is video games. If you turn your board vertical without wrapping it isn’t an impossible
@Devillionaire
9 ай бұрын
it has to do with what is spinning the board. a shuv is where you just pop it and the board does the rest - you just catch it when it comes around. an impossible is when you pop and then your foot stays on the board physically forcing it to wrap back around.

@supermarcoa

@@debomb721Impossible has to do with the middle axis rotation (the 8 inch one). If the board rotate around the middle axis is an impossible. It is called in this way, by Mullen, because there is a physics theorem that state that this kind of rotation is almost impossible normally (in fact monster flips (impossible without touching the board) are quite impossible to land consistently). The foot wrapping just helps to rotate around the middle axis avoiding the physics theorem. A 360 shove it is another kind of trick because the board rotate around a different axis (orthogonal to the board surface). There is a Mullen interview with physics girl that explains what an impossible is. Then we can discuss if a trick is determined by the movement of the board alone (so monster and impossible are equivalent, such as pressure and invert heel) or also by the feet of the skater (in that monster and impossible have to be considered different tricks). But this is another kind of issue, very difficult to judge because often is not a binary output, there can be a continuum spectrum of configuration in between (remaining with the monster/impossible flips example the wrapping could be just for 10% of the rotation of for the 90% or anything in between), the issue become very subjective.
@debomb721

@@supermarcoa fair fair, if Rodney himself says it’s contingent on only it going vertical, then I’d say the foot wrap is not necessary However, in response to the original poster, it’s a berrics game of skate and the rules for the berrics say if an impossible wraps, the other person has to wrap

A lotta people call that a switch gazelle heelflip. Board spins 540 and body spins 360. Luan has had switch/nollie gazelle heels on lock since he was kid, but for whatever reason never seems to use them anymore in modern games. (Definitely a mistake - he would be killing Sewa/Cody/Joslin with those.) The only other person I think who ever did that in a BATB game was Davis Torgerson vs. Shane O'neill in season 4. I can think of 50 people in skateboarding today who seem to need and seek attention, but Andy Anderson isn’t one of them. He’s not cripplingly shy, but mostly just seems to have fun and work hard on stuff. Now, he certainly Receives a lot of attention because people treat his extreme competence across a uniquely broad base of tricks as some kind of curiosity, and has become a celebrated (and scorned) pro for it, but that’s not what an attention-needy person looks like.
@Devillionaire
9 ай бұрын
Andy likes to put on a show. His run at Tampa Pro went way past time (to thunderous applause) and his park run at the Olympics ended with that whole freestyle routine. I dunno if you call that a "need for attention" but Andy's definitely a showman, and I'm not saying that's a bad thing at all.
@frozennorth3426
9 ай бұрын
@@Devillionaire Exactly, and that’s the difference. - Tampa is famously the contest where the MC will yell to “KEEP GOING!” or “ONE MORE!”, and I wouldn’t say that every skater who obliges therefore “seeks attention”, as that would include other obvious introverts as well - the Olympics thing was a proof of freestyle several years in the planning, something Nigel Alexander talks about in his recent Nine Club, recounting hundreds of hours of filming practice for that exact run, mostly in near-solitude with no attention for anybody. So the final performance at the olympics wasn’t a euphoric embrace of attention, but a message 2 years in the making.

I think mixing up the bracket a little better would have been smarter. (Never said this competition was known for it’s smarts) The way they have all the strongest skaters on the right side is going to lead to a easy win for whatever skater can make it to the finals from the right side of the bracket. Having Sewa play Jamie first round was a poor choice on the berrics behalf. A real lose/ lose for the spectator. Why can’t we just place first round skaters based on a seeding process similar to other sports instead of this random hodgepodge or pulling names out of a hat.
