More than two, I thought. The scene with the resistance cell entrance looked very similar to the shield installation entry on Endor with Han and Artoo trying to get in. They missed a great joke though. They could have found areas of the ship that were destroyed, chairs and desks with chunks missing,, then notice bitemarks on everything. Later when they find bortus they could have said "what the hell happened to all the chairs" and bortus replies "i got hungry". Then guiltily covers up part of Ed's captain chair. I never got why he would stick to combat rations when he can eat anything :)

What I liked about the finale is the setup in the previous episodes, in a very organic way. The previous episode with the time capsule which set up the idea of "editing" one aspect of life to have unforseen consequences, and then boom it becomes literal, so they didn't need to waste time to explain what happened in "conference rooms" in the finale. Very ingenious.

The black hole physics bothered me at first, but the Union has the technology to warp spacetime, so they should be able to flatten spacetime locally to avoid spaghettification and reduce time dilation to something reasonable. They'd still have to deal with the gravitational blueshift of incoming radiation. This show had edge-of-the-seat action pretty much all the way through. The effects were beautiful. The consequences of Kelly's decision were well-thought-out. Taking the ship to the bottom of the ocean makes sense; an attacker's energy beam would have to blast its way through miles of seawater before it could reach the ship. By wiping out all life on a planet, the Kaylons eliminate the threat of enemies ever evolving from surviving life forms in the future. This was a great conclusion to the season. If Isaac can figure out Aronov's time accelerator physics, so can other Kaylons. The abundance of new Orville merchandise is a sign that Fox sees the show as a potential source of significant revenue. The Fox online store has shirts and badges. There are trading cards out now. A comic book series will appear this summer. (I want to see ship models with lights.) So this bodes well for renewal. By comparison, everything about STD is crude and amateurish. The writers don't understand the basic principles of story writing. The photographers don't know how to light sets properly. The effects crew has discovered lens flare and think it's cool, but haven't a clue how to use it properly (they should look at the intro to Babylon 5). They don't know how to use subtitles properly (hint: use subtitles for the first few lines to establish that the characters are using an alien language, then switch to English for the viewer's convenience, e.g. see STTMP).

The size of the ship or the power of its engines is irrelevant. To escape a black hole once you've passed the event horizon, you need to travel faster than light, which is impossible. I'm not talking about warp or quantum drives here, by the way. I'm talking about chemical/ion emission engines. The extreme gravity well of a black hole would almost certainly make forming a stable warp bubble impossible.

Prime Kelly was thinking about her past self (heretofore known as Alt. Kelly) when Alt. Kelly materialized in the future. In the finale, the last thing Alt. Kelly thought about was marrying Ed. Through whatever quantum magic wordy words that brought Alt. Kelly to the future and subsequently set the Kaylon galactic destruction in play, Prime Past Kelly (new one) knew this when she resigned herself to a second date with Ed. “Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow” and the "The Road Not Taken" were nothing more than background stories for "The Orville's" adventures and they were damn brilliant in my opinion. First McFarlane's "Music is Better than Words" and now "The Orville". From the guy that brought you "Family Guy".

But apparently the Kaylon wiped out all aquatic life too.

The science was a bit janky. Having problems with deep sea pressure after just parking in a black hole, and let alone the fact that they parked in one in the first place. And, "diverting all power, even life support to the engines" and then immediately after that taking a reading that the Kaylon were ~30 seconds away. And the paradoxes Dr. Finn creates when she disappears. But I'll excuse those this time because the story was just that good. And MY GOD, the music was phenomenal! Star Wars music fans should be happy as A New Hope's Imperial Fanfare was literally in the episode with a little embellishment before the final note.

I noticed some 'Jaws' music at the beginning before the Kaylon show up, then it went full on Star Wars.

This episode, I believe, had 3 nice salutes/shoutouts to Star Trek history: 1) Enterprise: flying ships underwater (Archer trying to take out the Aquatics); 2) Voyager: Harry & Chakotay visiting a submerged Voyager shipwreck; 3) STNG: Ship blows up saving the timeline (All Good Things). Masterful move for a finale' episode (considering, at the time, Season 3 wasn't a guaranteed thing).

It's good to see that the Kaylon use the Stormtrooper targeting algorithm (-90% accuracy) in their robots, head-drones and ships , although with the 'Red Shirts' in Alara's rebel base they suddenly switched to the Rick Grimes algorithm (+30% Critical Hit Chance).

Orville is just a special kind of show. Gives you the ACTUAL Fee Fee's, and not the phoney off-putting ones conjured up from STD.

Voyager's "Timeless" come to mind with the snow planet. Chakotay and Kim look for 7 of 9 in the crashed Voyager.

It was The Orville's version of Voyager's "Timeless". I half expected the ship to be stuck in ice, but will settle for the bottom of the ocean.

Gary, any thoughts on the Easter egg @ 5mins into the episode (Ed mentioned the Kelevon (guessing the spelling) - another race/civilisation that are comparable to the Keylon militarily. I have not heard you mention that (about halfway through the video at present).

Love your channel. But I am really curious about why you haven't reacted to season 3?

The good thing is also that the end could be a end. We know the timeline could be back, even though they all died in sense. This when he Doctor vanished and Kelly said Yes to a second date could be what the timeline to get back in line with what we know. but maybe they did something like Stargate SG-1 did during there years. This episode that starts with COlonel O'Neill, Sam, Teal'q and Daniel fishing as O'Neills place close to the pond, and the guys get to know that there is no fish in the pond. But after the events of the Egypt adventure and they saves the day the timeline gets back, or did it? Because now its fish in the pond. lol. So maybe something is off in season 3, if it gets to a season 3.

I had two gripes. Black holes don't work that way and they were inconsistent in how timelines work.

The opening of this episode strongly reminded me the Star Trek Voyager episode about the future rogue version of Chakotay and Kim attempts to change future for the destroyed USS Voyager due to a blotched quantum slipstream attempt.

I really liked fan theory on what caused Kelly's different decision - originally she was still somewhat intoxicated after the previous night, but when they returned her after spending some time on Orville she no longer was in such state and so her thought and decision process was altered causing her to say "no". I would've really loved it, because it was really smart. Instead The Orville resorted to technobabble. Oh well.

Amazing episode! But I guess in the alternate timeline the Kaylons developed the detachable head thing, because otherwise Isaac couldn't have taken out the Kaylon Prime by ripping off his head... Season 2 was great, but Season 1 is still my favorite(not so many Love Boat In Space episodes...) Anyway, I really hope Fox will do the right thing and renew this great series. If it doesn't, then maybe fans should hope someone like Bezos can pick it up.

Great show, very good season. Folks at cbs should be taking notes from the Orville. Always surprised to see how many startrek writers, producers and cast are involved with the Orville. Really hope it gets picked up for a next season

Enjoyed the episode but a couple of plot issues ... the one that gnaws at me is what's stopping the Kaylon from recreating the time travel device from Issacs memories? The head connected to the web so what stopped a download?

Don Corrasa - when the crew was first walking the Orvill hallways at the bottom of the pacific the music played a few notes from the 1st two alien movies. I know this because I happened to rewatch aliens recently. Also, when the ship was moving out of the ocean I thought I heard some early Star Trek movie bits as well.
