The Osmond's from the beginning were "all for one and one for all" and they all supported each other in whatever they were doing. They were not in decline in 1972, that was their biggest run on gold records. They actually started in 1958, went to Andy Williams from 62-69 and D&M show started in 1976. Jimmy was practically born on TV, won the first gold record in Japan. All is well that ends well, most are still singing, touring, recording, loving each other, their harmony will live forever!

OK, I think I see what you mean. Donny was never the lead singer of The Osmonds. He was keyboards/vocals and had a solo career aslo. Merrill was bass/lead. What we are seeing here is Donny and Jimmy performing their solo songs during an Osmond show so the brothers are backing them, as they did often in that situation.
@nowvoyagerNE

actually Jay called himself the lead singer when he and the brothers first appeared on the Andy Williams show, and i think he was right. Merrill acted pretty shy back in the early days and only later emerged as the lead just about the time Donny was thrust into the spot light.

As for Jimmy, back then I didn't really bother much about him. He was their little brother, thats all I needed to know. He didn't bother me one way or the other. But this concert was in 1972 and it wasn't the first or last time Jimmy joined them on stage. I don't think it can be said that in 1972 the Osmonds fame was in decline. But he was never a part of the group. The group consisted of the 5 older brothers. Jimmy was given a spot in their shows, as was Marie.

Sorry to disagree but Donny didn't 'lead' the group. He wasn't even the lead singer. The record company put him out on his own but when he was in this situation he was 1/5th of it, not IT. I'm a HUGE Osmond fan but still get annoyed when even other fans don't see beyond Donny. Donny joined the group, he didn't make it.

look at the look another singers copy ELVIS PRESLEY so many did his clothes in the 1970s the ELVIS jump suites
@jerryfiler372
7 жыл бұрын
lisa chapman the best thing about it was that the Osmonds weren't trying to copy him as much as they started using the suits at the same time as Elvis did. From an interview by Donnie was that they decided to use Bill Blieu at the same time as Elvis and that is what he did back then. but Because of the D&M show there clothes changed more to suits where Elvis stayed with the jumpsuits.

maybe in later yrs Jimmy was the organizer of events and 4 that yes i'm grateful..but i was referring 2 when he was a child and joined the group..sorry, i grew up with Donny and his leading the group..i know they were looking 4 an angle 2 stay at the top as at the time Jimmy was brought in the band's fame was on the decline..but Jimmy was not the rite choice..the natural choice maybe since he was a younger sibling..but the band's fame still declined..and even faster with him as the frontman
