Hard working people are getting very upset with a lot of misconceptions about the welfare systems. I was born and raised in Ontario, Canada, so that is the only system I can really speak for - but in regard to that system, I want to clear up some of these misunderstandings
True Ontario Works recipients DO NOT want to be on Welfare - its that or the streets - and sometimes its argued that Welfare is worse than the streets :/ - please watch my video to learn more!
Edit: And NO I DO NOT feel this money is 'owed' to me in any way. What I know as fact is that these systems were originally designed to help people who cant find work and who are waiting for approval from ODSP - I was in the latter situation. Please watch the full video and check out other content from my channel before assuming I have an entitled attitude about welfare. AGAIN, as I mentioned above, I dont actually want to be on this system! Like the majority of others on assistance, if I could employ myself, I would!
(For anyone who took the time to do the math on my personal income, you will come to see there is 32.80 missing (I SHOULD technically be receiving about $200 per month for living expenses - outside of housing costs) - to clarify, Ontario Works didnt do their paperwork properly when they first registered me last year. They messed up their arrangements with E.I; So I was told that anything from E.I. that needed to be deducted, would be sent directly to O.W. With this, when I received unexpected E.I. payments, I went ahead and paid off some debt, being under the impression that all deductions were taken care of, and this was just extra income I could use to reduce the interest I've been paying... turns out they didnt get any deductions, and thus, they have been clawing back $32.80 from my checks, every month, for over a year, to make sure they get every penny back - so thus, I actually receive, (and thus have to live off of) LESS then what most O.W. recipients get.
If I had have known they were just going to claw it back, I swear I never would have touched my debt - and I've sadly only ended up slowly racking the debt right back up to where it was before I paid it down, because I've had nothing else to help me afford to live - I wouldnt have been able to meet my bills over the last year off of what O.W. provides, without using it; and now its been maxed out for a few months, so Im just racking up more interest and now my bills actually HAVE started to go unpaid... As I said in the video, I have been trying very hard to heal from my mental health issue, so as to get back to work, but the poverty being inflicted on me with this system is actually giving me MORE health problems and worsening my mental health by having me under constant stress. Im still seeking counseling and trying my best every day, but my point is, its not as easy as 'just go get a job' for a lot of people! Trust me, if I could work and change this situation easily, I would! Please see that the majority of assistance recipients are in difficult situations, and getting just as screwed over as I am, if not more!)
