@@katlynbailey7846 that's saying a lot because there are sooo many great war movies!!! I feel like people get stuck on the fact that it's not perfect in its depiction of 1776 lol. It's not supposed to be! sure the storyline is a little predictable...for instance, I think we all saw Gabriel's death coming but it was necessary for the story to reconnect to the audience. Mel Gibson and jason Isaacs were both AMAZING in this film. Particularly Isaacs.

Why isn't there a movie on war of 1812 where the british stopped the americans from oppressing canada, we won that war and were heroes plus we won that war with a smaller army than the americans, and burnt down the Whitehouse and captured americas largest fort, the Americans only won one battle in that war and we won all the rest, why not put that in a movie or do the Americans always have to be heroes and the British always have to be villains?

It was fairly accurate.The USA fought at least 2 year with out the aid of the French. During which time the USA was outnumbered, fighting the British and the loyalists. That's how the movie depicted it. The movie just covered til the arrival of the French and jumped to the end of the war. When the French arrived, the sides were even.

@Vegitas4 we are only ultimate bad guys cause of Hollywood as I said britain beat america in war of 1812 with a outnumbered smaller british army by repelling invasions from america who tried to force the canadians to become americans! We then after stopping numerous invasions, brought america to her knees by marching into Washington defeating the army there and then burnt down the Whitehouse. Granted america won one battle the battle of New Orleans in 1812 but that was nothing compared to another battle which the british won when they captured americas largest fort and slaughtered the army there, america signed a peace treaty in fear of britain sending 20000 battle hardened troops to america, as we would have probably took over, but we didn't and signed a peace treaty because just like the Americans we wanted peace, and not another long bloody war. I don't get how americans forget this war which the british won as americas star spangled banner national anthem came out of this war? Some americans like to say they won this war despite nearly every historian including american ones saying otherwise, britain achieved its main war objective by protecting a land mass bigger than usa, along with burning the most protected building down the Whitehouse and capturing Americas largest fort, americans only won one major battle britain won at least 5 america lost
@jacksonkeller4333

As an American I know that reason for war was wrong, but also American sailors being forcibly enlisted into the British navy as the war with Napoleon was taking its toll on British naval power. Also America has always been a major supporter of free trade and so when Britain kept American merchant ships from trading with a major trade partner such as France it didn't go over very well with the American people. Yes the war of 1812 was dominated by the British, especially on land, but the revolutionary war is how we won initially our independence, and so that is why this film is such a hit in America, not a film about the war of 1812. Don't get too sore about it, Britain did some nasty things to Americans back then, and Americans were expansionist towards Canada, but we're allies now, so there shouldn't be any hard feelings. What happened happened, it's just history now.

This movie is very inaccurate for many reasons, here are two: 1) Cannonballs are not made of rubber. They do not bounce off a grassy field, they sink. 2) It is impossible for Gibson and his two sons to pick off twenty British soldiers with muskets, the most inaccurate weapons in the world.

I don't think you understand the point of a trailer. Trailers are not meant to give major plot points away. And in truth, this film is not that great of a movie.Too many times the actors look away when firing their muskets. The British are depicted to be as ruthless as Nazis. You ask any Revolutionary war historian or re-enactor and they will tell you how much this film is hated in the re-enactor community. When the producers of the 2003 film of The Alamo was being cast, they emphasized that they didn't want people who turned their heads away when firing the muskets.

This Movie is simply a unrealistic version of the reality... The saddest thing about this may be that many people think the american revolution really was like this. If the russians made a movie about the russian revolution that was nearly as gloryfied and unrealistic as the patriot every defender of this movie would instantly start to cry and claim the russian movie as Propoganda. Its just horrible to see the transformation of the US historical film industry. Just look at Full Metal Jacket It was such a great film and described the vietnam war really great. The patriot is so different from the reality that it starts to Influence people in a very bad and dangerous way. This is simply a intentious denial of the real history and everyone should be aware of that.

It's definitely historically inaccurate, because it severely downplays the role that the french had in our independence and it also severely over estimates the man power that the british had in the United States at the time. But it's a hollywood blockbuster starring mel gibson, what do you expect? I'm not sure what all of this stuff about the americans being worse than their oppressive red coat overlords is about, though.

uhm no dude. We are discussing the historical accuracy of the movie- not comparing two civlizations together. Don't try to change the topic here. I was trying to prove that Americans were just as bad as Brits in America in treating natives and spanish and u guys just started to list all the atrocities in the brits have done. I never said "oh British are sooo much better than Americans" I just wanted to show how misleading the movie was. Do you not agree? The movie is incredibly inaccurate.
@MrRight1297
11 жыл бұрын
So by my account of the situation, you truly believe that the only massacres that are important are ones that take place on North American Soil. The Spanish killed millions in south america, but it wasn't in north america so it doesn't matter. The British slaughtered, conscripted, impressed (drafted into the navy) and conquered the bulk of India (brutally i might add), but since none of these horrible atrocities happened in North America, they don't matter. I Think we're done here good sir.

Pearl river delta massacre: British Royal Navy ships fire a week long barrage at the coastal towns of china, killing 20,000+ unarmed civilians in response to a boycott of british opium. 3. Firebombing of Dresden. I'm running out of characters but if you want more I have a never ending list, just ask.

That is one of the biggest, fattest, most unbelievable sweeping generalisations I have ever seen in my entire life. I do not know if you have actually been to Britain. If this opinion of yours is based on that, then please realise that you're negatively judging over 70 million people based on your interaction with little to none of them. It is incredibly bigoted. Do yourself a favour, and don't go telling what you said to people in the real world. You'll be laughed out the door.

There are alot of facts altered in many of today's history books. Try reading G. Edward Griffin's 'The Chasm.pdf'. This movie is an inspiration to promote overdue patriotism where many of us in the USA, including the children, are seriously lacking. Many try to convince us to lay down when we should be standing up. The enemy wants us to be wimps, so they can run over us. This film revives the spirit of knowledge and power to retake hold to our liberty and freedom given to us to protect.

I agree with you the most part. Even those it was a small plantation, and therefore the masters would have been friendlier with the slaves, not all would have been happy one-third of the slave population was in the British Army and South Carolina had a lot of loyalist. However, it was surged the part with the British murdering women and children. Innocent people die in war, the American Revolution was no acceptation. It is recorded 130, 000 Americans were killed, 50, 000 were in the army.
