Personally, I find it really, really fucking cringy, and I wish Bethesda had left it buried back in Fallout 2. EDIT: Not to imply any respect towards this religion that isn't referenced, I just think the Hubologists are an incredibly played-out cliche that were inserted for a laugh without any thought as to whether they belong in the setting. Also the sub-text with Hub having actually contacted aliens feels... very tone-deaf when you consider the actual nature of the religion Hubologists are not a parody of.

Interesting note on Mormons; one of the more important, and less spoken about, things they do is be prepared for things like a nuclear war. Specifically, and I'm not sure if this is doctrinal or cultural, they tend to have at minimum 1 years worth of food stored in their house. From what I recall, I think there are some other things they try to do in regards to prepping, but I don't recall any particulars. Makes a lot of sense that they'd be around Post-War.
@ajmckeown7337

Ex-Mormon here. It’s not doctrinal in the sense that it says in the Book of Mormon or other religious texts to do so. However, modern church leaders (who members view as prophets and apostles) heavily encourage members to have food storage and other survival kits (flashlights, camping gear, etc) for when natural disasters accrue. It should be noted that they believe Christ will come again and when he does, many natural disasters will occur.

I think that the church in Emerald City is essentially an offshoot Unitarian Universalism. While historically influential, it has become a small sect without much influence aside from one city, Boston. It was once the preferred religion at Harvard, and even today the Divinity School is filled with Unitarians, who make up the second largest religious group after Catholics. The religion doesn't have a formal creed, in the traditional sense, and tends to be syncretic, with members combining the religion with others like liberal Christianity, Reform Judaism, Buddhism, Wicca, or atheism. This has a lot of similarity to the way that the interfaith church in the city operates.

It's a stretch to say that Mormonism is a denomination of Christianity. The founder of the religion, Joseph Smith, personally hated Christianity because he felt it was a perversion of the Gospel. It wasn't until several decades later that the Latter-Day Saints movement gradually began associating themselves with Protestantism. Historically, Mormon theology was decidedly non-Christian. However, the mainstream Latter-Day Saints churches have generally distanced themselves from their past incarnations, but some of the fundamentalist and traditionalist splinter groups continue to embrace questionable theology. Perhaps the New Canaanites in the _Fallout_ universe have moved closer to Mainline Christian theology. Saint Monica's Church being wholly Catholic surprises me. For years, I've thought Father Clifford found various religious materials onboard the boat and combined them into a bizarre amalgam of Catholicism and Mormonism.

@@shorewall although the difference between Mormons and more conventional Christians seems internal, the difference in the usage of language is as wide as the difference between how theological language is used on television and how it's preached from the pulpit. For example, The Good Place, while it's a fascinating show and a great introduction to philosophy, rather explicitly understands morality and the afterlife differently from any denomination I know of. Imagine that degree of difference - and greater.
