I keep my eggshells in a bag, until it gets full. Then I crush them and use the spiky shells around my veggie plants to deter snails, or put them in the compost. I had to move the bag up higher, though, because our 6 month old yellow lab was stealing and eating them. Not joking, he did this repeatedly. He eats the funniest stuff. When he was younger, I’d feed him mild peppers right off the plant, and he’d steal them from my harvest basket. Just a hungry boy, I guess.

Not necessarily. Hindu Sadhus are lone wander monks, sometimes together in groups or asheams, some very isolated in nature. Some christian monks do have "Klausen" (Karthäuser for example). walking has helped my insomnia so much! my insomnia is horrible, very medication resistant and i'm not generally into other daily exercise. I walk around as much as I can during my day, but what I consistently do is take a walk at night when it's dark. forces my brain to understand it is nighttime and it's very serene and calm outside. I recommend trying it with no music- there's a lot of nice noises at night to find peace in

Caveat: I am not a Marie Kondo stan and do not support the entire cult/retail empire surrounding her. That said, I did find her book The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up extremely helpful. It was greatly misrepresented by the Netflix show and in the general consciousness in that it doesn't advocate getting rid of anything. The core of the book is to go through your stuff and ask yourself if it serves a purpose and/or brings joy. It's about questioning a consumerist mindset that continually accumulates things, like that ocean garbage patch. Like I say, the book was what it was, and I found it helpful. I know you were just doing a funny riff, so I'm not saying this out of offense, just offering some information that tends to get lost. ♥
@T.Florenz
6 ай бұрын
I watched the show and found her advice and techniques very helpful. Genuinely curious, in the book if something doesn't bring you joy or serve a purpose what do you do with it besides remove it from your life? As someone who felt deeply, emotionally obligated by a lot of the things I was holding onto, I really found her technique of thanking the object for it's place and service to my life before letting it go very healing and freeing. I watched it years ago, at this point, so maybe I'm just not remembering something, but I liked it and still find that gratitude practice helpful.
@emisformaker
6 ай бұрын
@@T.Florenz Part of the issue in the show, as I recall, was that the drama was being heightened for an audience in ways that the book was not. That's not to say that the show was unhelpful, or that it was entirely different. It also seems to have broadly generated a takeaway of 'get rid of everything, no matter what' that simply wasn't there, and that I don't understand. That's also not to say the book is better. From what I understand, the show became a launching point for a line of organizational products, and 'guru' style talks.

as someone with both an epic gamer windows pc set up and a macbook, I think there’s pros and cons to both. I 100% agree that mac is extremely convenient when you’re dealing with people who own apple products. I use it mostly for school and work, along with my ipad, and having the ability to easily move my work between those devices is super efficient and convenient. however, I love me some games so my PC is great for that. it also worked nicely for productivity when I was stuck at home during quarantine and had no where to go, but now that I’m mobile everyday again, the mac + ipad duo is really nice. I also switched from android to iphone so it definitely makes everything more convenient. I miss many windows features on my mac tho.

The simplified answer to your question regarding monk mode is trauma. People don't know if being in the relationships they are is even healthy for them, so they burn their bridges to find ones where they can practice their core values. Some people are unlucky to be born into families where they cannot be themselves. So they have to find another circle or else they're spirit is going to be crushed.

i've been seeing this message so much more on girlie spaces too. like the girls saying they're on their villain era stuff, and describing it as focusing on yourself, not wasting time on other people, just work work work and hit the gym and drink gallons of water and journal, etc., focusing only on body health and career and a version of mental health that's so toxic i can't even. and that stuff is aspirational to most women. ive seen girls saying wild stuff like the most fulfilling and only real friendship you have is with yourself (like in a sense i get it, but no. stop it). different names, but the same idea: isolate yourself and go on a self-improvement journey which is only a journey of trying to be on top of every aspect of your life without any understanding of yourself as part of a community and a whole system in place that makes you feel lazy / unhealthy / not productive and guilty for being that way which should be the other way around. our lives should be hanging out focused and dilly dallying all the way babyy lol. that other stuff is them trying to get you to a) buy stuff b) work all this toxic self-care i see girls promoting is awful mentally. just makes for a lot of people walking around guilty for not being *that girl* and being able to be on top of everything. and to the ones that can actually do all of that, it's isolating! in order to become it they gotta cut time off. time that was spent doing other things, like seeing friends and doing nothing, or doing stuff that brings joy. all activities that are essential to mental health and happiness in general. btw doing actually nothing is almost impossible any more unless we're aware we need it and make space for it. but then we get into the other side of this topic: our attention as a product and how capital explores it to our own detriment and their profits pipipi popopo

@@1152pm you’re right. Do you think its taking girl bossing too seriously? I love people trying to improve their lives, but there seems to be a line that gets crossed where the focus becomes less inward and more outward. Pretty much flaunting it. I think that road leads to selling over priced products to other over the top girl bosses. Link in bio.
@1152pm

@@Drappizdaddy i think it's about girlbossing too, though i think we're past that term (at least where ive been online), but just in general a product of self improvement and health (both physical and mental) becoming capitalists products in a sense. and ourselves being depersonalized, in the sense we're treating ourselves like machines, not like people, having to be always doing something and always updating improving etc etc besides that, there's a very individualistic view of how to be healthy, how to be better. since individualism is a thing very much encouraged by capitalist values (here girlbossing enters the chat). ofc bc it's way more in agreement with the system in which the problem is not the whole thing being fucked & making you feel like you're not [insert thing here] enough to make you consume in order to fix the problem/need they created, the problem must be you individually. so you can and should fix it by yourself! buy all the things, get the gym membership, the organic stuff, the vitamins, and all the services and products you can use to feel like you're being better by their definition of what better means. and in the process get more and more out of touch with your community your friends and family and the world, so you dont see it for what it actually is or organise somehow to try and make a change
