@@mayotango1317 You mean Bill "remind everyone I'm a lesbian every five minutes"? That Bill. I hated how they did that with her. We don't go around telling everyone we're gay all the time. It was so silly. I also really hated Nardole but at least, as you say, he wasn't trying to get into the Doctor's pants. The only thing that ruined the Ponds (other than Amy being annoyingly pushy all the time) was how they kept teasing that she was going to dump Rory for the Doctor (no matter how much she protested she wasn't). I actually, always felt that Rory was too good for her the way he just let her push him around all the time.

Or the fact that Amy married Rory and Clara had a boyfriend during part of her time with Peter Capaldi. Or season 10 with the teacher/student relationship with the Doctor and Bill. So every Doctor/companion relationship has not been a love story, and with the kind of doctor Jodie has portrayed I really can't seriously see her as the romantic type.

As an actor she’s always working but I still find it surprising that she knew so little. Olivia Colman and a string of top talented actors had starred in Dr Who that she must of knew actors that had played in it. I’m not just meaning Tennant and Colman. I think it says a lot that she was never up for a guest star role in Dr Who. For over 12 years she was never offered a part . She just isn’t lead actor material. It will be interesting to see what happens in her career from now on. For me, Whittaker’s performance shows an actor of low intelligence. She never studied the role and therefore didn’t know the character she was playing. That’s laziness is on an unprofessional level. It was just a paid job to her but not to do any research tells me all I need to know about her as a person. Dim and lazy!

It’s been two years since The Timeless Children but nothing has happened of any consequence since. Never acted upon in the 8 following episodes . Which, in most fans eyes, is a bonus but it shows to me that they never intended to do anything with the outcome of that story. Just changing the preceding 57 years of Canon was enough for them. This Doctor has no authority, no confidence. It’s not the same intelligent alien played by the previous 12 incarnations. Which is no surprise because Whittaker was too intimidated to watch any other actor in the role. The first sign that she wasn’t up to the job. @@whoreforlore4878 - nothing is really confirmed and I understand that because it can ‘subtract’ from the ‘magic’ that they intend to create on-screen, they generally don’t like to admit to their initial ‘ideal casting’ after the fact. Surprisingly, RTD wanted Hugh Grant for the Ninth Doctor when they were working the initial reboot but he turned it down (a choice for which he would later express regret upon seeing how relatively high-quality the 2005 series turned out to be). As for Coleman, I think it’s quite credible that she was offered the role because both Coleman and Whittaker worked on _Broadchurch,_ obviously, and like RTD, Chibnall has a demonstrable penchant for casting actors / actresses with whom he is personally familiar (which in itself seems potentially limiting to me, but then again if you are proven to work well with a specific individual, then there’s that). Ergo, I think that even a guy as obtuse as Chibnall must have realized, on some level, that if a ‘female Doctor’ was the direction he and his superiors insisted on going in, however stupid an idea that was, Coleman was the safest bet as a serious, personally likable, highly capable and well-known high-but-not-too-high profile option best equipped to ‘sell’ the idea of a female Doctor Who to the standard _Who_ fan base as well as to the more general public. But she turned him down (I think Chibnall is used to being turned down by women), and so he just roped in the relatively capable-in-limited-support-roles but somewhat dull-witted actress Whittaker as a clear, clear compromise, and retrospectively an utterly failed compromise (though I don’t know why I’d use the term ‘retrospectively’ because it was clear when Whittaker was announced rather than the highly touted and anticipated Kris Marshall that the Chibnall fiasco was doomed from the outset). I think on some level that Chibnall himself must have realized quite quickly he’d made a grievous mistake in choosing the clearly miscast Whittaker, but just like the bad teaching practice of which I myself am occasionally still guilty of in the classroom, though it became clear that the strategy was failing, he got lazy and pushed on ahead anyway, refusing to change tactics and just hoping against hope that continuance was enough in and of itself to eventually succeed. As he did so and as the inevitable car wreck played out in slow-motion, the beeb’s ‘higher-ups’ and the net’s ‘blue check marks’ egged him on with pseudo-support and casual affirmation, and so I guess he figured that there _was_ support to be gleaned not from _Who’s_ traditional core audience but an apparently new and novel audience that existed out there in the relatively new world of social media. The results after five years speak for themselves.

As someone who has followed the (relatively sparse) interviews and comments that come from Chris Chibnall and Jodie Whittaker what I picked up on from this off-the-cuff comment is that Jodie Whittaker was monitoring online discussions and views quite closely - to get to the point where she was aware of the frings discussions of her Doctor and Yazz possibly being in some relationship she would have to be looking quite deep.... So here you have some confirmation that despite her stating otherwise, Whittaker was always aware of online and public sentiment to both the show and to her own performance in it. It confirms to me that by the end of her first series she knew there was trouble, and the reception of the second series would have only cemented that air of certainty for her. And presumably Chris Chibnall. Some day there will be a book written, on the small fan-press, that will have the task of tackling the Chibnall/Whittaker era. But _how_ the author will go about writing it I have no idea - any serious critical investigation and summary of what the thinking was behind the scenes, and what ended up on the screen, has to cope with the relatively sparse interviews and comments from Chris Chibnall and Jodie Whittaker and somehow pull the substance from the spin and froth of it all. Chris Chibnall was never as approachable or extrovert (or even particularly passionate) about Doctor Who and his work as his two predecessors were, so really any author has very little to actually examine from Chibnall himself.... so is it even _possible_ to write any serious study and examination on this bizarre and bewilderingly constructed era of the series? Frankly, I would say no. It isn't.

Two things that were really dumb about it were: (1) there is nothing in the long history of the show to support this being a thing. We've never seen a Timelord do this. Sure there's a bit in "The Doctor's Wife" about it but that was put there just to set this up. Before that there is not a single case, shown or mentioned, of a Timelord changing genders and there is no reason why they should. (2) They said it was to encourage women to watch the show, but they already were, up until Capaldi, women were watching the show because the Doctors were all young hunks and they loved him. If they really wanted to bring women back all they had to do was hire a young hunk actor for them to dream about.

@@kevinfisher5492 Yeah, but those were put in (as well as the bit in "The Doctor's Wife" where the Doctor talked about a Timelord friend of his who used to switch genders all the time) just to set this up. Before that there was nothing. I've had people claim that Tom Baker and Sylvester McCoy's Doctors mentioned it but, at the time I read that post, my local PBS station ran all of Tom Baker's episodes and there was nothing. Even if they did Tom Baker's Doctor in particular was known for saying things that were likely just him messing with people (complete with a sheepish grin, when challenged). Now, their was talk, behind the scenes, of having the Doctor become a woman (just to spike the flagging ratings) but nothing was done with it. The standard argument was that the world wasn't ready but if the original series wanted to establish it there were other options such as having the recurring Timelords cross-gender when they regenerated and they never did that. Further, what we saw of Timelord society doesn't seem to support the idea that they change genders. I don't see a society with fluid genders having and using gender-specific terms such as grandfather (as Susan always called him). There just doesn't seem to be legit evidence that this would be anything more than a tacked-on stunt. It would have worked so much better if they said it was new. Like the High Council (who was once shown offering the Master a new series of regenerations and forcing the Doctor to regenerate before his exile) used to prevent gender-swapping out of fear that it would destabilize their society but with them gone (due to the Time War) regeneration has become wild and anything could happen. It would have made much more sense and it would have given them something more interesting to do with Missy than that B.S. "I'm good now" arc or whatever that was. She could have been about trying to figure out why the change and, playing into his past charactistaztion of looking down on women hating being one instead of just accepting it. Maybe even wanting to be sure the next time she regenerated it didn't happen again. All of that would have been way more interesting than what we got.

As far as I am concerned when they rebooted the show in 2005, that created a separate "reboot" universe which is non-canon entirely. True Doctor Who ended with the TV movie which in comparison is loads better than Chibnall's shit show.

Russell Davies may be coming back but the BBC is still in charge of Who. Their diversity initiative and general incompetence will override whatever good Davies might (or might not) try to do. The softness of the woke has infected society to such a degree that I'm just about over it at this point. Doctor Who, Star Wars, Star Trek, etc. are all things that used to be great but have been totally ruined in the recent past. I'll always love the original series of these properties but I just don't care anymore. Everything new is just awful "fan" fiction.

Every previous actor has nailed the part in the first few minutes. Witless cannot act and never nailed the part. Blaming the preachy rubbish and far from entertaining writing for her acting is ignoring that she cannot act in anything she's appeared in. Even Rowan Atkinson nailed the role during his short appearance. Witless and Gill deserve each other as they both went to the same acting school and bunked off for the whole course. The problem with the Doctor (the REAL Doctor, not Dr Woke) having anything other than a platonic relationship with humans is a bit like a sexual relationship between a human and an animal, not to even be considered. When Hartnell's Doctor had a fling with an Aztec woman, it was before the idea of Timelords and reincarnation was even considered, and it was possible the Doctor was human in origin, possibly the distant future. Tom Baker's Doctor showed it best, his companions were basically sentient pets. This was brought to the fore when Tennant met up with Sarah Jane. He'd lived for hundreds of years while she waited at home, growing older. It's not just the physical side which couldn't work, but mentally there is a vast gulf between humans and Time Lords. As far as I'm concerned, Dr Who ended even before Capaldi, although he was excellent in some really bad stories. Until Witless and Gill I though Pearl Mackie had been the worst actress (not actor, actors are MEN) on the series, and she set a very low bar. At least I have classic Dr Who to go back to and can still enjoy some of Capaldi's stories but not the ones featuring the lesbian Silurian of the joke Sontaran. Have a good one. Dr Woke is dead, Long Live Dr Who.

In regards to Witicker, it always felt to me like no one told her she COULD make the part her own. Like she thought (and still thinks) she has to play the role the same way the people before her did and that is not only wrong but it doesn't work for her. I've seen defenders point out that the facial expressions she makes are the same as previous Doctors. That may be but they don't work for her. She acts like a cross between Smith and Tennet but she is not them and what works for them doesn't work for her. She needed to make her own Doctor and failed.
@indiajohnson

I wouldn't call the Doctor's relationships with humans as bestiality or he wouldn't have left his granddaughter behind on 22nd century Earth with a human (The Dalek Invasion of Earth) or left Leela behind with Andred, a Time Lord (The Invasion of Time). Now I'm not really for the Doctor being in a romance with humans especially when that human is young enough to be his own grandchild or something because I didn't like how people were saying that he and Rose were "in love", I'm like how? She was very immature in a lot of ways compared to him and I didn't really care about the River Song "romance" either, that was forced on him through a paradox and she was an obsessed psychopath. To simplify, I'm not for the Doctor being in a romance with a immature being of a somewhat immature species but I'm not exactly against a romance with a being from a species of equal footing like I don't know someone like Guinan (who's centuries years old, El-Aurian) or an Ancient from SG-1 or someone on that level.

Personally I always found something 'off' about the 2005 revival. I remember a fan saying that, like Buffy's resurrected mum in the episode Forever, the show had come back 'wrong' somehow. I begrudgingly stuck with it hoping it would come right again. For a brief time with Moffat's first season it finally seemed to. But then it degenerated into the River Song show, and then the Missy show. To be honest I'd thrown in my towel already before Jodie was announced. I just tend to stick to vintage Doctor Who these days. Not much beyond Logopolis.

Yep, I agree with everything that you pointed out. I truly wondered what Contemporary Who would have been like if it hadn't been hijacked by the Gay lobby and the Alphabet people. Like yourself, I tend to watch more from the Classic Era of the spectrum rather than the Contemporary Era. The Contemporary Era I judge as being the 1996 movie onwards. Though, I still collect the media from the Whittaker Era of the show. After all, I have to have something to laugh at once this woke dumpster fire has been finally put out!

@@philippapworth8020 To be honest, back in 2005 I did think of myself as a progressive and thought it could only be for the better of society to have more popular progressive shows, and so at least on paper I would've thought that not a bad development. Of course, being a sci-fi geek I also preferred things to be compartmentalized and so deep down I probably didn't want such agenda-pushing or realism in the show. I guess what I wasn't prepared for was how blunt, arrogant and in-your-face RTD would be with his nudging and what an unpleasant, bumpy, obnoxious viewing it would make for. I also wasn't prepared for how militant and spiteful his cult of sycophants could be when I voiced my criticisms. It was enough to sometimes make me wish the show had stayed dead.
@sadako24
2 жыл бұрын
@@mayotango1317 At first I didn't mind Rose, but why RTD had to insist on bringing her whole g*dd*mn family along for the ride too I'll never know. I do remember around The Empty Child, beginning to first think to myself that I would've much preferred Nancy as companion and that it was time for Rose to leave (though I remember on one fan forum, a member getting pounced on for saying so by the usual cult of RTD sycophants who insisted she was important for casual viewer identification and that negativity wasn't welcome). Series 2 Rose though was just an absolute horror, and boy did I get tired of the Doctor moaning about losing her in Series 3. So I certainly don't have high hopes that RTD returning is going to 'save' the show, and I won't be interested in checking his era out. Let's face it, this is the same RTD who once had the Doctor tell Clyde he could regenerate 507 times. Hardly the kind of guy I think fans should honestly trust to undo the Timeless Children retcon.

I can totally understand why you've completely disowned new-who, but (not to sound snotty) I've been fortunate in that I never watched any of Jodie's garbage, so for me, Capaldi was the last Doctor. In my mind, the curtains closed as Capaldi was still regenerating. The show was over just before he finished. The Doctor continued as a male Time Lord, & eventually made it to regenerating into the Curator & retired. Canon isn't restricted to what's given to you, or in this case, shoved down your throat. If you don't like what you see, you can make your own canon. To me, no new Star Wars projects are canon to the Original Trilogy. If I happen to like a new SW project, it's a "what if" story, or "legend", if you will.

I never saw Capaldi's final season. Couldn't be arsed at the time, and knowing that's when Moffat had to really insert the woke shit from the BBC I'm not missing anything. So as far as I'm concerned Capaldi is still out there somewhere. Life is better that way. It just is.
@chaptermasterpedrokantor1623

@WTFViewer Yeah, easiest solution. But we all know they're never going to do that. RTD is never going to retcon the Timeless Children, let alone the entire Jodie era.
