Fuck yeah. From the jazzy swamp, to the Bluesy Cotton Belt, to the Country hills of Appalachia, packaged in London, made in the South of France. Tax cheat outlaws. The most American Album ever done outside of the US.

Exile on Main Street wasn't received well by the critics of the day, and didn't sell all that great at first. But it's one of those albums that has only grown in stature over time, and now is considered one of the greatest rock albums in history. My favorite Stones album is Sticky Fingers, but for getting the experience of what rock n roll is supposed to sound like, nothing tops Exile. It mixes rock, blues, countrry, gospel and jazz in a great recipe producing rock n roll as it was meant to sound. As for Loving Cup, it's my favorite song on the album.

"Give me little drink from your loving cup \ Just one drink and I'll fall down drunk" -- Exile on Main St. is a double record, so four sides for a total running time of just over 67 minutes. Nicky Hopkins, piano. Charlie Watts, RIP!

The 'exile' album was a true masterpiece with the idea of it having a really raw sound with no real care for commercial slickness. This tune really draws on their Country and Gospel influence. Check out 'all down the line' ,'torn and frayed','shake your hips' and 'stop breaking down' off the same album.

Hopkins' piano is phenomenal. What a player. And how great is this song. But only Stones fans have ever heard it. And it's probably not in any of the many Stones compilations, despite it being one of the best songs of their career. Side 1 album closer. Greatest rock and rock album ever made.

I'd love to have you hear the the song, Let It Bleed. It's incredible. The Stones have a song, Salt of the Earth, that also talks about the common man. Another cut that's amazing from this album is Soul Survivor. I always say, The Stones were the funkiest of the classic rock bands, and they still are!

This is my favorite cut on this outstanding album. The piano is transcendent. The horns, the vocals, the harmonies, the mash....the myth is that Charlie wanted his drums in this little wind-ey stairwell @ Nell Cote that gave him the sound he wanted...Church-ey, lifts me so high....

I love it! What a beautiful buzz. Last song on side 3, song number 14. There is no drop off from 15 to 18. The great Nicky Hopkins is here too. The Stones have a magic about them. We used to say the greatest American band is British. Side 4 may be my favorite of all.

Oh, and you mentioned how the Stones made music for "the common man"... WELL....they used a recording of the opening flourish of the great composer, Aaron Copland's " Fanfare for the Common Man" (yup!) to open their 1975-76 tour. Saw them that tour in Jacksonville, Fla. Spectacular!

The Black Crowes carried this style into the 90s, and did it very well. Check out "Sometimes Salvation" and "Thorn in my Pride" from them. A lot of people recommend some of their more pop leaning tunes, but if you like this kind of music, those are that and very legitimately so.

"Loving Cup" is a great Stones song, one of my favorites. It has been covered by a few other groups, most notably for me was the band Phish. Saw The Stones live one time, they didn't do a "Loving Cup". But I saw Phish about ten times, and got two, no three "Loving Cup" 's. A fair trade.

Exile on main... and most Stones freaks (like me) like the whole album and of course “Sticky Fingers”. “Exile” was the second and most creative album since the death of Brian Jones and the reason was Mick Taylor's guitar work ! I don't think they would have grown so quickly without him. Yes, I'm old and the Stones have been by my side since I was a child. Yes again - I love that it was none other than Ronnie Wood alongside Keith Richards and he fits the Stones like no other. Best wishes @all from germany

Oh Biz, if you liked Sweet Virginia, Ventilator Blues and Loving Cup, you are going to love the whole album. On this album, the Stones delve into all styles of American music that that moved them. Rock n roll, rhythm and blues, blues, country, gospel and funk are all represented on the album. It wasn't a slick hit laden pop album (although Tumbling Dice and Happy were both hit singles), it was more of a band album and a musician's album. Those that love it think the Stones were never better, and its detractors wonder why it lacks good pop tunes and sounds so murky. You will probably love it since you already like three songs that are considered deep cuts.

Exile was not initially liked by Mick because he thought the sound production was not done properly by the producer Jimmy Miller ..Too much snow was going around and maybe Jimmy did not get it right like the others he made before this album that started with Beggars Banquet ..It all came out ok anyways...

They ruined No Spare Parts by re-recording Jaggers vocals. The 1978 original rough mix is far superior. Jaggers 75 year old voice (at the time of the reissue) is so bad compared to his voice on the original at 34 years old
