She was our honeymoon cruise on June 26th 1983. Fond memories. Appreciate seeing all the areas of the ship again that look so small after almost 30 cruises with RCCL. We had the same itinerary. This ship started it all for us. We LOVE cruising!!

I just finally sailed on RCCL's Mega Ship - Allure of the Seas (6,000 passengers) after getting off a two week cruise on the Viking Star (930 passengers). I can say that we are staying with the smaller ships for sure. Don't get me wrong, we had fun but it was just too crazy. If I was 30 years younger I am sure it would be a different story. I remember when the Sovereign of the Seas came out and I stepped on board. I about fell over looking at how massive it was - hard to believe it is gone. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Our first cruise as well. I remember shooting their Remington 870 at clay birds thrown from the side/aft and hitting 4. A great cruise experience. We were the first to go to Labadie their very own private island. Even though it was not an island but a peninsula off of Haiti. The next week they closed it cause of political unrest but it is open now. In 2005 we went on a Royal cruise and I visited the cruise desk to see if I could get the SA cruise added to my points. The kid there had never even heard of the Song of America. LOL. I showed him a pic of us on the gang way and he added it onto my total. They had no records. LOL

When I was on this cruise, we had an announcement while on a sea day that the ship would be stopping and not to be alarmed. The cruise director told us that Royal Caribbean was looking for a private island to buy, and they would be lowering one of the life boats to go over and inspect a deserted island as a possible choice. We got near the island and they went over to it for about an hour and came back. As you said, turns out they ended up buying the section of Haiti as the private "island." I also had to show pictures of SofA to get my cruise credits....yep, no records back then. What a fun time.

@@patsadventures6381 Very cool Pat! I remember when we were on Labadie there was a massive fence up in the jungle to keep anyone from trespassing onto the peninsula. It was a nice but wild place and I thought it was great. There was a guy named Parjero selling conch shells. Some were $2 and some were $3. I bought the cheap one and in a few days it was really stinking. I threw it in the life jacket locker. In a few days the room steward was really complaining that he had to clean the life jackets and I felt real bad. He had also cleaned that shell to a high sheen. Guess I should have spent the $3 cause it cost me an extra $10 in tip. LOL

My first cruise in 1983. I cried so hard when I had to leave the ship I could hardly leave my cabin. I loved that ship like I never knew you could. I’ve been on 26 ships since then but nothing can compare with Song of America. She changed my life forever. Don’t know if anyone else has had this experience. I’ve never had it on any other ship since. It amazes me to know how small she really was cause I stayed lost and she just seemed massive. In ports she was the biggest most beautiful ship out there. I was so proud of her you’d have thought I’d given birth to her! And I’ve loved her ever since. Would love to walk her decks one more time.

Yes it was bat that time the biggest ( not the longest; back then was the SSNorway) and agree was so innovative with the open atrium and the big 360 Viking crown lounge. It is still sailing under a Royal part owned company called pullmantour under the name Monarch.

@@cesara136 Correct, sailing in the sub company as is the Sovereign of the Seas. I saw both of them with the new paint jobs in different ports recently. I also sailed on the SS Norway in the 80's....what a dump that ship turned out to be after being on these newer ships.

The Ss Norway is one of the most beautiful ships ever built (as the SS France) it really was painful to see her go in such a fashion;!boiler explosion in Miami, dragged all the way to Bremerhaven Germany, then sold for scrap.. NCL could have done more to help preserve such a jewel.

@@cesara136 I was just looking at my video of the Norway and in my comment I was thinking about another ship (Chandris Line forgot the name of the ship. )Yes, the video I have of the Norway does show the beauty of it and I am going to make a video of that one also and post. I think NCL was looking at the cost of trying to maintain such an old ship. When I was on it a water pipe broke in the dining room (I have it on video) and was blowing water everywhere when we were at dinner....pretty funny looking back at it now! ha ha

Thank you Pat - what a wonderful video. Our first cruise was on Majesty of the Seas in 1995, and we too were hooked! I was never on SOA but it's very recognizable. it's interesting to see the layout and how Royal Caribbean stayed with a similar design from SOA through the Sovereign class ships, and the Vision class, to the Radiance class, although of course, on a larger scale. I have subscribed, and am looking forward to further trips down memory lane :)

Thanks for watching. I was always amazed at the RCCL ship, especially when the Sovereign came out and I sailed on her. However, I have no desire to go on the Anthem or the other monster ones. Appreciate the comment!

@@patsadventures6381 The Radiance class is my favourite RCCL class; they are known for huge windows, lots of light and great sea views wherever you are on the ship. By contrast on Allure (tried once and prefer not to again), much of the time you don't know you're on a ship because from most public spaces there are no windows. Even in Central Park all you can see is the sky.

I was on the Song of America in the 80s as well. When we were on you could do skeet shooting off the back of the ship - not something they would do today. We also spent time doing activities to get Ship Ship Dollars so you,could,get a Ship Shape t-shirt at the end. Did,they have this when you were there? Thanks for the video. It brings back some great memories.
@patsadventures6381

For sure they had all of this. I cannot imagine now a cruise ship giving someone a loaded shotgun on a crowded deck, especially after that person had been drinking!! Everytime I shot skeet, I had more than a few beer in me. And yes, the Ship Shape t-shirts were huge. Fun times back then and now. Thanks for watching !

Beautiful video, we got to visit her when we were travel agents. However, we didn't get to sail on her, we sailed on their other ships: NORDIC EMPRESS, SONG OF NORWAY, & the SOVEREIGN class all three of them. I found out today, that the CELESTYAL OLYMPIA ex SONG OF AMERICA was sold for scrap today 😢😢

@@patsadventures6381 I’d been on Song of Norway for a few weeks before moving onto SOA. We had Thursday nights off in Puerto Rico when the ship sailed at midnight. A day off is unheard of today.
