@@abody499 He's not wrong, the law is so vague as to only require anyone to believe anything was derogatory or offensive to a protected group, even if there was no intention or hateful intent ment, to have that person now liable for prosecution subject only to the officer handling the cases judgement. At the end of the day its a law that will be completely ignored because the police won't have time to deal with every john, dick and harry reporting someone they don't like for saying something they decided to claim was offensive. I could literally say something like "Well atleast it didn't take as long as my wife takes to get ready" and an offhanded remark like that could be reported as sexist because someone choose to interpret it as such. How did we end up in a world where the Comedian's make all the sense & Politicians are proffering the Laughable stuff ???? 😬
@oshawott4544

One of the problems with today is it's getting harder to feel like we can ask people things. Instead of asking "Can you please not say that? I find it inappropriate" it's now "that offends me." Questions are now implied in statements, because the fear of hearing "no" is too strong. It feels harder to be firm and say "no" too. We're growing more sensitive, and it's because being firm was never taught to us.
@DarrenMarsh-kx8hd
3 ай бұрын
@oshawott4544 "can you not say that I find it inappropriate".... That's just as bad as "I find that offensive" If you are a weak person who finds what someone says offensive, then shut up and move along....that's your place in society. If you are a strong person then tell the person that's annoying you to shut the hell up, and be prepared to back up your demands.
@oshawott4544
3 ай бұрын
@@DarrenMarsh-kx8hd I guess I have a different perspective on this. When I hear leftist rhetoric about stuff being "offensive" or "problematic", I associate it with them invading spaces and asserting themselves inappropriately. They are guests, and that is all. If I say "That's inappropriate", it wouldn't be at rather tame jokes, it would be because something that sows genuine hate and distrust is being spread. It is also followed by a clear and explicit request to stop. The people who find everything "problematic" don't want us to stop. They want power over us, so they want constant dirt they can use to keep us down. It's all about social power. There's nothing wrong with respectfully telling someone that you believe their conduct is inappropriate. This isn't a competition. We need to be willing to have discussions that aren't based on being "stronger" than the other, or we'll be exactly like those we don't like. And besides, I was simply suggesting that there are alternatives to whining that are more constructive, and don't imply a question.
@simonb4757
3 ай бұрын
What people want to say when they say "I find that offensive" is "I think what you are saying is wrong, and so wrong that I want to try and convince you to stop saying it and change your opinion" but they don't have the justification, knowledge, evidence, intelligence or all of the above to actually try and back up their position and archive that goal through reasonable discussion. So it's a get out of jail free card for having a debate about the rights and wrongs of a usually nuanced topic with valid opinions on both sides. It's pitched as being something liberal, progressive and open minded people should say but actually it's anti-liberal, regressive and intolerant because it shuts down reasonable and healthy discussion.

Sadly it seems so Orwell and Huxley often disagreed about some of the fundamental issues facing us, with Orwell, the optimist, presuming that big brother would come about, and only COULD come about, as a result of a massive and enforced war, Huxley thought his brave new world would be the inevitable result of seeking ease and living a soulless existence. Turns out the reality is the worst of both, and not only has BB not been forced on us, we pay money to have it.

These non-crime hate incidents and hate crimes are so much easier to deal with than actual crimes, because they are typically committed by ordinary people, not by criminals. When was the last time burglary, robbery, theft or knife crime led to actual arrest? It's not surprising at all. Why would the police NOT go for the easy job?
