I honestly thought it would be a ruin or I'd not be able to see much. Imagine my surprise when I drove straight up to it and parked only a 100yrds or so away from it. The place is so accessible. Looks like the house Norbert Schultze visited to do the finishing touches to Lillie Marlane and various campaign songs with Dr. Goebbels? If so, there was a piano room where Schultze was impressed by Goebbels' musical prowess. Of course, he was in a Civil Servant in PROMI so he would have a high opinion. This is a very informative video Alan. Rumour has it that Magda was painfully thin due to an eating disorder. That also she comforted herself studying Buddhism. I don't consider myself an expert on the second world war but I read books by people who are and there was never a realistic chance of a breakout at Stalingrad. You can watch TIK 's 50 hour plus documentary series on that battle for yourself for a better understanding of that particular segment of the war. I'm definitely not trying to be rude but it is a common misconception. A lot of the series relies on experts like David Glantz and it is extremely well researched and also very clear about the sources that are used. Other than that I have no complaints about your work. Lol.
@HistoryonYouTube
9 ай бұрын
It depends on when you are referring to. All sources state that Soviet pincers were initially weak and that in preparation for a breakout, huge amounts of German supplies went up in smoke alongside prepared positions. However, other than the time when Manstein was relatively close when an attempt should have been made, I agree that a breakout was not very possible - assuming of course that Paulus knew of the lack of reserves in that sector of the front.
@bookaufman9643
9 ай бұрын
@@HistoryonKZitem I think that you can say that there was a possibility only in hindsight. I agree that with the knowledge that General/ Field Marshall Paulus had there never was a date that would have worked. By the time he was already thinking about trying to do it it it was most likely too late. I don't think it was ever really doable during the Manstein rescue and would have had to have happened within days of the pincers closing. It would have had to have been done without help but they probably had enough force if they had aimed it at the right place immediately but they didn't have the knowledge that we have now and that makes all the differences.

@stephendezouzsa I'm quite aware of the affairs between the both of them. I don't think she wanted to stay by her husband's side as much as She wanted to stay by Hitler's side. She was an absolute fanatic about National Socialism and didn't want her children growing up in a different world other than the one they were trying to cultivate. There was a documentary that illustrated her last thoughts and feelings in a letter she wrote to her eldest son right before she died. As for her being able to take the children to safety and live happily ever after- she was the "First Lady " of Germany and known worldwide due to the propaganda films that illustrated the perfect German mother/wife. The allies, being American and British, would have definitely arrested her and interrogated her at the very least as they did with Goering and Himmler's wives. If the red army were to catch up with her, they more than likely would have raped and tortured her to death as they did many other female German civilians. In summary, her fanaticism about Hitler and her fear of what would become of her children in the immediate and later aftermath of the war, is what prompted her to make the decision she made to end her and her children's lives. No doubt she was a narcissist, but she wasn't a cold blooded killer. She acted in the best way she saw fit in that time and place .
