Great tips! To do it even faster (a bit of a janky workaround, I should say), use an AO node and set that as emission value. Works like a charm to make those outer areas a bit darker.

True!. That would work great to create relatively even falloff, but won't work if your source light is coming from one direction (i.e. top-lit signs)

Dude that's a cool idea, I was also thinking of the idea of just having custom contrast texture images with variation that can used right away as opposed to wasting time with clunky gradient nodes, but yeah AO would work good!

I use daily builds and it seems every new download needs 20 minutes to load the AO mode the first time you use it. Makes me avoid it like the plague.

A way to make this easier, use the radial gradient as a mask and plug it into the emission. That should achieve the same thing without having a separate mesh to do the work for you. Can't confirm as I'm not on Blender ATM, but if I recall I believe it should work that way just fine. For added adjustability, plug a color ramp in between the gradient and the emission plug.

Yep I suppose that comes in really handy when dealing with actual images and sign art, keeps colour info and saves time, but I figured out the whole backlight idea since I started out making those airport wayfinding signs haha

Question! Could this be used in case of an organic glow? I've been trying lately to create an alien bioluminescent cyst, but the glow always seems either not realistic or isn't doable when animating
@Regoliste
Жыл бұрын
Totally depends on your context and what you'd want the glow to look like. If I think about it, the good looking glow is just variations in emission strength and maybe color, so if you let some sort of organic looking noise or voronoi texture control the emission, you could probably get good results. Some of those procedural textures even have a '4D' slider which could make for some really cool looking animations by itself. Maybe even a pattern of dim and bright to represent some sort of organic pulse. Also the glare node in the compositor might be handy!

how can i change the light falloff position to the bottom? my lightfalloff is always in the left side
@Regoliste
Жыл бұрын
The falloff effect is achieved by mixing a lot of gradient nodes together by 'multiplying' the color. The gradient default set up is from left to right, but you can use a mapping node before to rotate, scale and displace the gradient to wherever you want. Hope this helps

Here you go!: imgur.com/a/zDBcOiH The texture cooridinates and mapping will be entirely specific to your object so you have to mess around with those settings yourself, once you get the idea its really easy, basically creating a black and white gradient that can be located and rotated, combine that with other vertical gradients with a mix rgb set to multiply until you have a good fall off shape ready to control that emission, hope this helps
@animanic128
