The simple yet sublime tune, sung beautifully by The Seekers, has been, by their rendition, crafted more into a hymn than song. This boat that I am rowing Will take you where I'm going To peaceful waters flowing On the shores of Avalon There lies within each troubled heart A special time and place apart No storm is ever raging On the shores of Avalon This boat that I am rowing Will take you where I'm going To peaceful waters flowing On the shores of Avalon Clear dreams shall always guide our eyes A ray of hope before us lies Where all is calm forever On the shores of Avalon This boat that I am rowing Will take you where I'm going To peaceful waters flowing On the shores of Avalon Where all is calm forever On the shores of Avalon To journey's end together On the shores of Avalon

It never ceases to amaze me when I listen to Judith Durham sing. Other singers, good singers put so much effort and energy into their songs, but Judith just stands there and with very little effort the music just flows out of her mouth. She is clearly the best singer of all time, and second place (probably Cynthia Clawson) is just sooooo far behind.

To be able to hear so many recordings here on KZitem by The Seekers and especially this incredible singer Judith Durham is absolutely wonderful. One thing bothers me enormously, though. On catch-up TV there are a huge number of videos available to watch of singers & groups dating back to the1950’s. Elvis Presley, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Abba, Queen, The Bee Gees, Roy Orbison, Dusty Springfield, Karen Carpenter & hordes more of the biggest names in the history of pop music. Practically everyone loves The Seekers & Judith Durham especially. Very many people regard Judith Durham as the greatest ever vocalist in the history of recorded sound. Why then does catch-up TV have not one single video devoted to Judith Durham or The Seekers. IT MAKES NO SENSE TO MY MIND WHATSOEVER!!!.

In the comments I have read on Judith Durham a number of people have mentioned Karen Carpenter. Karen was a wonderful singer with a beautiful voice, obviously, but neither she nor anyone else can be compared to Judith. The staggering beauty of Judith Durham’s voice and equally staggering talent as a vocalist are totally and utterly unique. Listening to this lady sing always makes me think maybe I am wrong about there being no God!.
@Lyndell-P
3 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with you Frank. I was a big fan of the Carpenters and of Karen Carpenter's musical skills and her voice BUT there is no comparison with the voice of Judith Durham. .. cont. Such a range. Perfect diction. Never 'over sings' a song, as many do. With her partnership with 'the boys' as I call them, they uniquely compliment each other. However, it is Judith's amazing voice that glues it all together, and I doubt that 'the boys' would disagree. The loveliest thing is that (through it all) they have remained close friends to this day, and care about each other very much. That fact too, comes out in their music. A real delight to behold. ..cont. We are all blessed to have these recordings of The Seekers. They may never perform again (given Judith's serious health problems) but their music will never die. ... Back to Judith - adequate adjectives to describe her 'remarkable' voice and talent are not plentiful enough. There will NEVER be another voice quite like Judiths' ! 💞 🇭🇲 🎶🎵🎶 👍

@@Lyndell-P. It isn’t just the staggering beauty of her voice that I so love about Judith Durham. She has a talent for singing and instinctive feeling for the music that is astounding. If you listen to her a song like “Danny Boy”, or anything really, it is certain to be the best version you’ve ever heard. To me she the Michelangelo, Rembrandt or Mozart of singing. A PURE GENIUS!!!.
