Dear Ines , we discovered your videos while sourcing information for our octogonale pool , it’s small and we actually dus build up with beton brick, 120 deep and 4.4 # so we wonder how to manage the future natural pool thanks to your videos 🧘♀️🙏

Hi Nathalie, thanks for your interest! - Well, to turn a pool into a swimmteich is a cunning project. Of course it is possible, but you have to pay attention to a few basics: You have to dig deeper. You should turn the walls to be at least a little bit conic (that's a challenge, I think) and you have to install a regeneration zone...... But then it should work! I think your work is really lovely and do so good for the environment. It's great to see that there are simpler methods for making a pool with much better results than the conventional. I wanna ask you what about mosquitoes? Can they reproduce?

Dear Maria, thank you for the flowers! About the mosquitoes...... As the water is alive there are enough predators to hunt for the larvae of the mosquitos. In any case, mosquitoes feel more comfortable in a flower pot. All the best, ines

Does it feel gross though? When you touch the liner for the "non-swimmers" who stand in the cooling area or shallow area, do they say it feels gross? I have been wanting a pool but id rather have a natural one also... for similar reasons, but i worry about what it feels like. You garden is beautiful by the way!

Hi Jennea, "gross" is not the right word for what it feels like. - Sometimes the biofilm makes the liner feel slippery. - In our swimmteich (= tec-free natural swimming pool without plants) at some times the liner feels slippery, at some times it doesn't. Personally, I have the feeling that it gets better every year (very short periods of slippery liner). So, NO, it never feels gross.....But of course, the water is alive. That means it changes..... Algaes are natural part of the ecosystem. Like conventional pools, you need to do some frequent cleanup.

Beautiful schwimmteich!! Great use of small area. I'm curious about the translation at 5:03, does he really say the liner/foil is 2 mil thick PVC? That seems too thin?
@teichswimmer6746

Hi there - Yes, you are right, he says that his liner is 2mm thick PVC. No, that is not too thin. The liner we used for our swimmteich, which is not PVC but FPO (but that does not make any difference), is only 1,5 mm thick.

@@teichswimmer6746 Wow!! I've been researching this for several days now, and most US companies are selling 45 mm to 60mm liners for custom-welded liners. I received a call yesterday from a company in Massachusetts that sold 85mm liners (super expensive). Since inground and above ground replacement pool liners are 20-30 mm thick, I am shocked that you could even use something so small as 2mm or 1,5 mm liners!!!

That surprises me, too. - Well, obviously that thickness is good enough - We have seen a lot of natural pools with either PVC oder FPO liner, some of them 14 years old - all of them having liners between 1,5 and 2 mm. no problem at all..... - The reason why thinner liners make more sense, is because you can handle them much easier. Which means that you can design shapes more easily.... - Actually, I have checked now, also. - Even for roofs they sell the liners only between 1,5 and 1,8 mm....... - If the liner is 8,5mm thick - how can you fold it over the edge? - But you have written 85mm - that would be 8,5 cm thick...... that is not possible - that's not a liner any more..... I am confused now. - But I think you mean 8,5mm......

@@teichswimmer6746 OK, I now see my mistake, I will quote from Rockford pools website: "Vinyl liner thickness is measured in mils. Note: a mil is not a millimeter. A mil is 1/1000 of an inch, also called a “thou” (as in a thousandth). About 39 mils equals 1 mm." So you can see there is a BIG difference in mils vs mm, and I had them confused. :( Now I understand it better, thanks for your patience and insight!
