As in why it was so overproduced, Peggle was one of if not the most successful casual game of its time. They made millions upon millions. Peggle2 was supposed to be a step up and EA decided to put every ounce of everything they had in there

No, not EA. *PopCap are the ones* who "decided to put in a lot of effort." Ea doesn't so shit except be a bad publisher and make bad sports games. The companies they buy and cannibalize are the ones that do all the work. Maybe you just didn't know this isn't a first party game, but I wanted to point out that difference bc people seem to forget just how important PopCap has historically been. Peggle, ZUMA, Plants vs. Zombies, and iirc that game about a cactus popping balloons were all PopCap's work, and the earliest installments of each were long before the acquisition. All games that absolutely had a lasting cultural impact.

Peggle's longevity will never cease to surprise me. I didnt think much of it when i saw it for the first time like ... Uh... Over a decade ago now, but then i got a turn with the controller and proceeded to hog it for the next few hours. Dont come back to it often, but it pops up all the time still in various social spheres.

animal crossing new horizons does this too with the instruments you can play in-game! the notes sync to the chord progression in the bgm. unfortunately they're randomized and it's done client-side so if you're playing online with a friend they won't hear the same notes as you

The sound design in one of the mobile games uses in engine audio synthesis instead of samples to save on space! a technique used by older 8 bit games but with a much higher fidelity synthesis engine of course. I'm probably gonna end up referencing that game in my paper on the future procedural audio in games for uni. Hilariously low key innovation.

@@1gnore_me. personally I would run timer with the music it’s self so that each hit would play the note of the melody currently played. Example: Melody: D E F G A Ball: D F G Now the problem would arrive with rhythm as the ball with hit off the beat such as the E of triplet etc. So it could play the the arpeggios of the chord of the current chord progression. Chord progression: Gb7 | Ebm | Abm7 | G7 Ball: Gb Bb Eb F etc etc I dunno I like this idea and also I’m tired so it may not make sense.
