I'm only 19 but this is my favourite song. Takes me back to being a kid, my whole family round my aunts. My parents sitting on the sofas, getting drunk and filling the room with cigarette smoke. Us kids sitting in the middle of the room playing board games :) My childhood was great! And so is this song!

When I was a kid I was listening to this radio station called "91X" in San Diego and I was like 9 and I was listening to this all request line, so I called in and made a request for this jam, but I didn't know the name so I had to sing it, and I told the guy I heard it on a program called "music without boundaries" which was a lot of really good really out there music they played on Sunday's at that time, and so he played our conversation on the air and played my song. It was soooo awesome to me at the time, I told my mom and everything, haha.

+PKSkyler yeah bro, 91x was way ahead of its time. while all the other stations played top 40 stuff (which is what those other stations are about) 91x played some great bands in the 80s that the others didnt. b52s, talking heads, elvis costello, madness etc. the djs they had were so into what they played and knew so much about it all

Kristin Juan That's right! Even now, it's still my favorite radio station. sadly I don't live in San Diego anymore though :/ My dad used to do the surf report for 91X when I was a kid. I got to meet a lot of the people, and go to the XFest concerts for free until I was about 14.

We're not even our own Resurrection Sunday anymore...We've got other styles mixed in :-( How I lived through the music. My dad was super strict. John Hughes is such an icon to Generation X'ers because he really used the greatest music of my time.

***** yes but Ireland will be United in about ten years when we have the Irish border referendum and what will be a Catholic majority in the occupied six counties of Ireland by next census 2021 as the cencus 2011 showed only a difference of 58,332 more Protestants than Catholics and that was nearly 4 years ago and think of the amount of elderly Protestants who have died in 4 years, I would say the gap is under 50,000 now and in six years to next census will be even or more than likely a Catholic majority and the Catholics can be more easily persuaded into a United Ireland, especially with Ireland being the fastest growing economy in Europe.

the style of music was always about being inclusive and you can tell that from the band members in the early years of Thatcherism there was alot of resentment towards immigrants of course being a non -white BRIT i know this was hardly a rare thing in general but let's focus on the Music great band LOVE SKA proud to be a Brit!! Cheers!

You forgot Charles Mingus, Dizzy Gillespie, Wynton Marsalis, Charlie Parker, Eric Dolphy, Jelly Roll Morton, Thelonious Monk, Bud Powell, Max Roach, Sonny Rollins, Clifford Brown, Count Basie (and most of his orchestra), Lionel Hampton, Coleman Hawkins, Dexter Gordon, Ben Webster, and Oscar Peterson to name some. That's pretty much just jazz and bebop. So yes, you are right, Music isn't really prejdiced against black people.

Theres so many idk where to begin. I guess I'll go somewhat chronologically. Louis Armstrong, Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker, Nat King Cole, Chuck Barry, John Coltraine, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, Billie Holiday, Scott Joplin, BB King, Aretha Franklin, Kurtis Mayfield, Sam Cooke, Smokey Robinson, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, The Shirelles, Jimi Hendrix, Al Greene. I havent even gotten to the careers of the 1980's yet and im already out of characters

We missed out on the Specials here in the states when they were big in Britain. The only reason I even knew who they were was because one of their songs was used in a segment on the TV news show 60 Minutes around 1981. I thought "well... those guys sound great. Why aren't we hearing them here in the states?" In fact, ska music didn't make it big here until the lae '90s, and it only lasted a couple of years.

Absolutly, and the pistols were shitting on the monarchy, and they were also represented in the opening ceremony, and the Queen was in the crowd. My point is, even the most opposite things, like punk and monarchy, are part of one bigger thing: England. That's what I was thinking about when I saw the ceremony and I think it'S great that they didn't denied this part of british history.

@Commonsense11111 This stuff is really hard to dance to though. Something just don't drop right. Original just beats it hands down. Thats my real problem with 2 tone and all that 70's so called ska. Its ok for jumping around to but if your used to the vibe of real black music you'll probably put your back out.

I bought this album in 1979 and it came with a SKA T-Shirt that was unique. I wore the t-shirt for 20 years until the holes in it became too much and it surrendered, I wonder how many modern albums (sorry CD's) come with a t-shirt these days? But then again who cares there is no good music anymore

Yeah, but they called themselves ska, and it stemmed from the 3rd wave revival. We don't need more Goldfingers running around and such. I love ska, but I don't want it to get popular again, just so that new ska doesn't turn into trendy shite.
