Cheers mate. I've learned the biggest things that improved print quality was setting print speed much lower (around 8 - 9 mm³/s) and keep the surrounding area warm either with a heater or an enclosure. I'm currently testing out printing moulds instead of the part because then I can make a prototype fiberglass part straight from the mould and not have to worry about plastic on the car warping or cracking.

I dunno i reckon it’s great progress, some fitment issues with the front wing is a hurdle. Its not out of the remit of vehicle manufacturers to use shims to align panels. Problem is you move one things and then have to check and adjust 3 other things to compensate. I’d try shimming the wing to raise it slightly, adjusting the bonnet and bumper to fit and recheck. It’ll be fine mate, great work

i personally love this project, but if you did fenders for more popular cars, like an actual GTR. you could then sell kits after the project is done and you have the moulds. maybe even using carbon fibre. Would be a way to maximise your money made for effort spent. I dont think this project is that though. but you might get the odd offer or 2.
@TofuAutoWorks
6 ай бұрын
I'm actually not interested at all in making parts for popular cars. I think a lot of those cars are overpriced and it stops people from being able to enjoy modifying cars for fun without a huge budget, and so I prefer to make kits for cheap cars like this that people can buy and turn into something cool while still being affordable. It's the same reason I make parts with polyester resin and fiberglass rather than carbon. I'll be selling this kit once it's complete and even though I haven't announced it for sale yet I already have around a dozen people with their names on the list to buy one as soon as it's available.

You might be the perfect person to help! I run a race car club at the school I teach at, and we use a Neptune 4 Max to print body parts, and were having lots of trouble with warped parts! What did you do to stop that happing? You've managed to cure what we haven't! Thanks :)
@TofuAutoWorks
6 ай бұрын
When I was getting warping the main things contributing to it were: Print speed too high, slow it down to around 8.5 to 9mm CUBED per second. Volumetric flowrate not linear speed. Part geometry was not optimized. Try and make your parts in shapes that wont bow. A triangle is good, but a gentle curve will shrink and bow in. Build an enclosure or put a heater next to the printer to keep it as warm as possible Avoid in particular the eSun PLA+ in black. This is the filament I use and I found out that it shrinks worse than any other filament, I'll be swapping to white after this. What I'm testing at the moment is actually 3D printing the moulds instead, and then making my prototypes out of fiberglass. I found that even with good practice the 3D printed parts were a little flimsy / warped slightly on the car, but fiberglass is a much better material to build a plug from as it is stable.
@TomJesper

@@TofuAutoWorks will do that thank you. We dropped to 10, but going further is a good plan. Did you use a ‘prop’ piece that you used to keep the item up? Or was that just fused on support you were removing with the grinder? Thanks :)
