@danielramsey6141 Centurions whole engine is built on summoning cards whenever you want. You get primea out, draw stand up centurion, place field spell, get free trudea, now synchro into level 12 auxilla or legatia, then draw, you’ll likely have not used your normal summon yet, which you can then use to start summoning your centurion or bystial cards to get out crimson dragon on your turn or your opponents turn. Then summon quasar or red supernova in the middle of your opponents main phase due to stand up centurion effect.

I genuinely want to see a State of Ritual
@DisappearBlade
Күн бұрын
Similar to synchros. Either the deck is under powered and forgettable OR busted turn skip bs. Konami has stagnated with rituals. The make these highly useable spells for fusion decks, but ritual spells are still only being designed to ritual summon after you have completed a puzzle. Is a ritual spells could function as a starter or generate you extra cards directly off of it's activation then we could be talking. When you see people tech in ritual monsters or ritual spells in decks not entirely centered on the mechanic then we can talk.
@gabrielarocena3074
Күн бұрын
@@DisappearBlade It less than that really, unlike Synchros which will always get 1 generic synchro every booster set, Rituals are more neglected due to how scared they are of repeating the same mistakes they did with Nekroz. The main problem with Rituals is that they are not an Extra Deck Mechanic, meaning in order to design them, you have to dedicate an entire archetype dedicated for them. This isn't like Synchro where a Tuner and a non-tuner can reach for X level of the Synchro pool.
@DisappearBlade
Күн бұрын
@@gabrielarocena3074 that's my point. Ritual monsters and cards that can summon them should be "generic" enough that you can consider playing them in a regular deck just because there is synergy. You can still have your stupid hard to summon, but game winning Ritual monsters (I want ritual engines to potentially get banned) that you build your whole deck around, but there should also be ritual monsters and spells that fit into a deck as easily Crimson Dragon or Accel Stardust. Not even Voiceless does it right for what I'm describing. Their spell is not strong enough for example. Mikanko has a level six that goes in the right direction. She can summon herself and set up an interruption. You can also go for the ritual spells if you build around it. The ritual spell could stand to be more effective by sending an equip spell from your deck or by allowing you to substitute an equip spell for the ritual summon, but this is what I mean by generic.

Honestly swordsoul supreme sovereign is a generic level 10. It doesn’t absolutely require you to use swordsoul or tenyi, it just requires you to have an engine or part of an engine that banishes cards. If you run bystial plus centurion or bystial plus any other synchro archetype that uses mostly light and dark monsters then you’re getting sovereign out for free. This is useful because he disrupts the opponents grave yard and field by banishing two cards every time it’s effect is activated and can start banishing for you if it’s targeted for destruction.

Synchros weren't out niched only by links. Their inherent restrictions is what they made them age poorly, ironically. They were conceived as more generic fusions, with the caveat you actually must have the monsters on the field and play tuners, but with how the fusion mechanic has been evolving, the later has more room for interesting game design. Gameplay wise, generic synchros worked because you could splash powerful tuners like glow up bulb and the synchros themselves were incidental to your game plan, Yugioh doesn't really play like that anymore. Currently, synchros are worse links, worse fusions and, even if XYZs are also tied to levels, the overlay mechanic gives them something to work with, having a better extra deck toolbox also helps. The moment you could make a generic removal with links, synchros got outdated, not to mention they are vulnerable to cards links and xyzs aren't.

I’d love to see you make a video about Kaijus and hear your thoughts on them. People often overlook how much indirect damage these monsters have done. We may not see them as often now, but whenever a monster becomes too much of a problem, Kaijus start popping up again-if not in the main deck, then in the side deck. That's why there's no real reason to synchro climb into those Level 12 Accel Synchro monsters anymore. Konami gave us Crimson Dragon to cheat them out because they realized this. Remember the only real XYZ climbing deck, Super Quantum? Once that deck gained traction, all you needed was to drop a Kaiju over the boss monster, and the deck was done. The same thing will happen to any synchro deck that pours all its resources into making these monsters. And don’t forget about Dark Ruler No More-it can also shut down these boss monsters. Sitting on hard-to-summon monsters just isn’t worth it anymore. To make them viable, Konami would need to add 'cannot be tributed' to all of them, plus give them solid floating effects to counter Dark Ruler No More’s negation.

I feel like right now there are good synchro decks with lots of options but the thing about synchro decks that Yusei tried to teach us in the anime is that it has no ceiling and has infinite potential with the right archetype and protections. Synchro decks if you have the right cards and effects, can allow you to effectively use almost ALL summoning mechanics except for and maybe pendulum just due to the required cards and setup. I’m not saying it’s impossible but you have to intentionally build with fusions in mind. I main synchro but when my shit blows up, I still can pull out an XYZ or link using the same cards in my deck. Typhon and Zeus, Duel dragon/black luster solider. There’s tons of options.

I gotta say, my favorite deck in the entire history of this game has to be dark synchro in 2016 (abc/metalfoes format)… my build of that deck could handloop you for 5 and end on quasar + crystal wing. People joke about modern yugioh being solitaire… this is literally my solitaire deck. I love just doing test hands with it on my phone in my free time even nowadays. Most decks are all about memorizing the combos, that’s not an option in dark synchro, because of t.g. hyper librarian. There is no 2-3 card combos to end on a full board in dark synchro, the randomness in your librarian draws means the exact same hand can end on a completely different board, and you have to take risks/plan according to what you might draw off librarian. Nowadays I see a lot of synchro decks that don’t even use librarian, or just have it there so their synchro combo lets them draw handtraps/follow up as well. The deck itself also has a lot of really cool cards, one of my favorite examples being D.D.R., because it can do 4 completely different but equally useful things: 1. Summon back a banished omega (doing this multiple time leads to the handloop 5) 2. Summon back a monster (usually a tuner like jet) to extend your synchro plays 3. Going second, summon back a monster banished by something like an abc dragon buster to break boards 4. The discard cost lets you get malis/plaguespreaders/glowupbulbs in your grave when it couldn’t have been possible otherwise. Going second you can even discard something like a farfa you sided in to banish an opponent’s monster. Modern synchro decks like speeder which are either 2 cards for full memorization/spreadsheet combo because you resolve speeder or absolutely nothing if speeder gets negated feel insanely boring and repetitive in comparison. tldr: i love drawing cards

Yeah I’m just going to make one more comment, crimson dragon can be accel synchrod and then really double accel synchrod using stand up centurion which lets you summon at any time, and can’t be destroyed as long as you have a face up centurion card, which legatia and auxilla will make sure of.

26:41 Because that's how they've been since their inception. Right out of the gate, Tuners were given extremely good effects that made them relevant outside of just being Synchro materials. I could list like, exactly _one_ vanilla Tuner on release, and that one also at least had the benefit of having a decent statline that could beat over a few other combo materials... And was a starter deck card. If your tuner is a glorified vanilla, you're immediately losing to Tuner competition in _2008._ So I would _hope_ that people have high standards for Tuners.

29:58 It's likely because Ash introduces a generational barrier that says "If your deck cannot play through this card, you _will_ die". Most other handtraps don't quite provide that same effect, because they don't target a fundamental part of the game that's been around since the early 2000's. That and Effect Veiler was also from the 2008-2010 period of Yugioh. I understand that it's needed, but I do feel it could have been designed better so that it didn't completely nuke 90% of decks that were designed before 2016. For some of those decks, even legacy Support can't save them from Ash Blossom.

The opening argument about how they’ve been power crept by links is true, but that argument about how they got power crept in generic-ness seems weird to me. Not every deck has access to tuners which makes them straight up ineligible for the mechanic. Of course a mechanic that can be accessed by pretty much any deck that can put two monsters on the field at the same time is going to have more generic support and support in general. Now whether that’s a good or a bad thing, I’m not arguing right now. It just peeved me a little bit to see a misleading argument about Synchros and their place in modern yugioh.

Synchrons shouldve lowkey been a deck that focused on low level synchros that accel synchro on the opponent's turn. Junk warrior pass (or some retrain of it) just like yusei intended. Junk speeder being the speed warrior retrain is a crime against humanity. The moment that card was released synchron became ruined and forced to become a combo fest deck. What's more insulting is the fact that they also made a synchron (or junk i dont remember) link that helps in accel synchros. I think links that help in that couldve worked. Halq himself has a neat concept with his second effect summoning any synchro tuner from the deck. Unfortunately summoning any tuner from the deck without any lock broke the card completely. But aside from summoning tg witch to pop scythe, the decks that actually used halq's second effect were cool because they actually accel synchro'd. Also, with synchrons getting all the spotlight the "junk" archetype just gets left in the dust. Alongside all the synchros that require a specifically named material. You could make a cydra-type archetype of tuners that change their name to make specific synchros that require that name.

The thing is that it would lack a coherent gameplan, as it would be just nothing but handtraps and a splash of boardbreakers, albeit my attempts at it had a small Diabelle and Kashtira engine to facilitate lvl 8s and 10s. Without them, it would probably be a Rank 3 Xyz deck to be fair, aiming to make Full Armor Lancer, but at point why not play a proper Rank 3 Deck?

Don’t forget the Two D/D Synchro Cards. But yeah, there are SO MANY PROBLEMS with Synchros these days!

I mean there are people hating or loving all the mechanics😂 Me as an example, i really like all of them with pend even being my most favorite, sooo😂 I mean Links are kinda boring, but there are fun link decks as well, plus they can get a deck to a state of being actually playable like Genex and thats why i still like them🤷♂️

1:35 they print way too many links when synchros actually require better deck building to make them as opposed to spam link material

I think a lot about how fusions, synchros, XYZ and ritual all have distinct benefits and drawbacks, then pend is, well... A little confused, but workable into multiple cool niches. And then Links happen, and I'm honestly not against having an extremely generic extra deck type. But instead of a weaker, generic type of extra deck monster we just got four slight variations on the same idea because Konami put so much generic good stuff in links it makes all the summoning types feel like "different links". It doesn't ruin the game, and it's not unfixable but it really reeks of poor planning to me.

What about centurion! Centurion uses synchronization in an interesting way edit: ok ok you mention them

Centur-Ion has massively rubbed me the wrong way as a Synchro Deck because, like, they're an archetype purely in name only. Their gimmick of being continuous traps is 100% meaningless when only Primera even has an effect as a continuous trap. They have 6 main deck monsters, and Primera literally is the only one who has a continuous trap effect. If anything it's just a way to cheat past typical hand traps like Ash Blossom and Ghost Belle as they get placed into the backrow instead of being added to hand or going to the grave, while also allowing the little turds to SS themselves in your opponent's turn. And then you have Auxila and Legatia, who don't do anything either. Neither of them are boss cards, they're just more bloody extension. Auxila is a walking +3 on a 3k ass it DOES NOT deserve to have. Both of them have such bloated stat spreads for cards who aren't bosses that are also piss easy to get out. Their entire archetype basically exists to spam out Crimson Dragon in your opponent's Draw Phase so they can cheat out a better monster in Cosmic Blazar and Supernova. Also why the fuck were they given an Infernity Barrier in Awakening? Why the hell does this deck need or deserve to have an Infernity Barrier?! And that's what's been pissing me off so much about Synchro these days: They just cheat out monsters, ignoring the whole point of synchro laddering. Something like Crimson Dragon is not bloody okay, especially on a quick effect that lets you cheat out some of the monster powerful Synchro Monsters at the cost of a freaking 4 and an 8. Remember Agarpain? Remember how broken he was by the simple merit he could cheat out Crystal Wing? Well Crimson Dragon is Agarpain on steroids with easier conditions, and way too many people are just accepting of that

As someone who has been playing against Centur-ion in the duel triangle event, I don't get how Synchro in your opponents turn makes it less tedious than the normal combo, if anything it's more annoying that they play more in your turn than you, because it's supposed to be yours (especially cause if it doesn't get them the win or they scoop then they just wasted your time)

I'd like to offer a different perspective on Swordsoul because think the singling it out is a little unfair. "Whats stopping these from just being links?" can kinda be said about any synchro archetype right, if your point (rightfully so) is that synchros are just links wit an arbitrary restriction? Idk that Konami experimentimg with new design space that streamlines the combo process, reduces the 15 setup turn that ppl hate while also making you have to use tuners outside of the tokens to be flexible (Ecclesia and Adhara) should be met with this much ire. They couldve went the Chaos Angel route and just said "fuck it, white links" but didn't. Whether one likes it or not, this is literally the non-link-climb experimentation with the mechanic that ppl claim to want. Hopefully they'll do more experimentation that Swordsoul haters actually like but this is a first step at least and that should be acknowledged

I should have elaborated further, I don't outright hate Swordsoul. I enjoy the involvement of non effects that tie in with Tenyi as I find Tenyi itself to be the more fun part of the deck design wise. It uses vanillas in a unique way only links could that makes the usage of the mechanic feel valid. I just wish Swordsoul accomplished that with synchro WHILE managing to be streamlined.

you mentioned Genex, but you didn't mention their level 10. I'm a Genex player and my end board (probably generic) has level 8 Dragite, and level 10 Barrone, Dipater and the Genex level 10

Of all synchro decks. Speedroid feels the best nowadays. Sadly it is a bit restrictive with wind monsters. Swordsoul is my favorite. I play it as synchro toolbox. No barone or protos. I personally avoid cards i don't like. Including almost all handtraps. Supper samurai was done dirty with the pendulums. To generic and when they get hit they will be irrelevant again. A machine lock for example still would have been miles better then generic synchro board. Their theme is great.
