Are you thinking of starting a junk trashing hauling business?

I am currently purchasing a roll off with a 20yd container to start junk removal in texas so that I can scale later to dumpster rentals. I know it might be dumb to go out and purchase a lot of equipment early on without a customer base. Do you think that my setup would be too much to start out with in junk removal, or do you think I should start out with something smaller? I know there are a lot of variables within that question, just trying to get some perspective from someone who has been doing this for a while.

Let's see if some other folks who have junk removal companies have some thoughts but my first thought always goes to the numbers. Have you ran the numbers on how many jobs you need before you "breakeven" on this purchase? Make sure to start with the sale price then subtract all other costs, then use that number towards the cost of this item. For example, say you charge $100 but have $50 in costs/labor that leaves $50 towards this purchase. Then if this costs say $1,000 then you would need 20 sales to "break even" or before you made any business profit. If it might take a year to pay off, then you might want to look at other types of jobs to build a bankroll to purchase it. Hope this makes sense. - Tammy

@@BadassBusinessOwners yes. I’ve also ran unit of economics down to the day, hour and mile. After taxes, depreciation and GS&A I projected I would be at about 12% profit margin. There’s economies of scale to a point but begins to taper off of course as the work load gets too much for one person and then I need to bring in more temp workers. Still making a profit at that point, just about 3% less than with one person.
