I remember sitting in a Pret a Manger in Croydon having a coffee. Some 6"7 brick shithouse Lennox Lewis lookalike came in, helped himself to a few sandwiches and walked out. The little Spanish dude behind the counter came out, chased after him, caught him and got backhanded by Lennox Lewis and put on the floor 🤦♂️ over some sandwiches at 8am 😂

Croydon then was so completely different to what it is today. “It’s so depressing to see what it is like today”. Very interesting tour of Croydon South London. It was interesting to hear how children with problems were removed from their homes in other parts of London then sent to Croydon. Also, due to gentrification, people were forced out of certain areas and ended up in Croydon also. Same things have happened in the US & other countries. Croydon is a mashup of ppl & cultures.

Croydon is where the old Brixton residents went to due to gentrification. It has the highest Caribbean population in London at present.
@Isleofskye
19 күн бұрын
I will take you back further. I was born near Brixton , which was a White Middle-Class area in The 1950's. Then mass immigration came and the Estates were built like The Angell, Brixton Hill, Tulse Hill etc. Whites moved out as their shops closed as the lack of footfall did not justify the shops staying open to accommodate the departing Whites who moved to The "Suburbs" of Thornton Heath,which was very safe, up The London Road bypassing Streatham and Norbury. Then the Yardies set up base there in the 1980's and the Whites moved onto Croydon and then in the late 90's as that changed they moved out to East and West Sussex. NOW it is The Caribbean people who are moving, like we did, through Gentrification.
