As a white man, 65 years of age, growing up in the 1960's and 1970's, I have ALWAYS loved Diana Ross and the Supremes. Such an angelic, and sexy voice, Diana will always be one of my favorite female singers of all time. Thank you Diana !!! ❤❤❤

did you know Motown forced their artists to go to 'artists development school" to control how they looked acted in public?
@georgeburge7136
10 ай бұрын
@@TooSkinnyKenny yes, heard that. Frankly ( I'm 63) compared to the seemingly deliberate behavior of a number of todays "artists" I'm fine with that. That is a qualified opinion depending on how (Motown singers)they were instructed. Todays acts seem to go to a school to see how ( imo) bad an image they can project. I'm an old guy so I can be entirely wrong. Funny too how todays music acts refer to themselves as artists. Never heard Led Zeppelin, Marvin Gaye, Earth Wind and Fire, etc refer themselves as that . I don't know why it bothers me. It's r and b and rocknroll. Sorry for long reply.

You can also hear Flo loud and clear when the Supremes backed up Marvin Gaye on his hit you're a wonderful one after Flo left the Supremes and their songwriters Holland Dozier Holland left actually these people were fired by Gordy the backround vocals were bland and generic sounding and they didn't have as many hits they finished strong before Diana left but in 1968 they had only one top 10 record

Flos backround vocals that blended so well Mary's is what made the Supremes a group especially the call response thing they had going on when Flo was still there it was a team effort Diana is a fabulous entertainer with her fabulous gowns and her ability to connect with her audience she's a song stylist but in my opinion she does not have a great voice she was far from being Motowns best singer but she was the most marketable

I think the lady is referring to single releases. I was there and the Supremes, Beatles, and Stones always knocked each other out of the number 1 spot on the singles charts. True, the Beatles were more successful and were in my opinion, privileged, and did not have to endure racism when it came to sales. I recall Mary Wilson once said about the 60's in an interview that people would often come up to her for autographs and say, the Supremes music is the only black music we allow in our house. So for those that did allow it, how many didn't allow black music in their homes. Do you think the Beatles ever got that? Not! Give us a break buddy. Just another indication that white privilege still blindly exists today, and some of you will never get or comprehend it.

It's a shame they trained Diana Ross to stop the acting and facial expressions and the so called Eye Popping as her trainer called it, because it was a natural acting and Diva that Diana years later proved she was the first true Diva, great actress too one who studied and dove into all characters she portrayed from Billie Holliday in Lady Sings The Blues and in Mahogany and even her famous Central Park concert! This is what you call speechless music, all the music from the Motown golden era. You just watch the videos or listen to the music from that era and don't say nothing while it's playing. Just enjoy it.

This song is a masterpiece it made Ms. Ross learn her voice is beautiful without any vocal gymnastics or a song turned into a soul song or over sung. Diana Ross’s voice makes me happy and that’s an amazing thing to happen.

Exactly. Months before they were the No-hit Supremes then they hit big with Where Did Our Love Go. But, that song was babykins fluff, as was Baby Love. You can tell by Diane's movements and facial expressions that she knows this song has substance. It's the real deal. The first of a series of REAL hits.

Legend has it that Diana Ross got a lot of criticism from the people in Motown who were in charge of image/performance for making her google eyes and flirtatious movements in singing songs like this......they wanted her to be more sophisticated and elegant. Personally, if she wanted me to come see about her, I'd be over that night......I liked this style......it was fun.
