I love the black ash one. I have always loved more exotic burled wood in anything. Please enter me in the contest. I dont have a lathe but i have alway been curious if a large blade the width of the woodstock turning can be used to keep the whole piece even at once rather than a small chisel like the one you used in this video?

Jacob Curry It is fairly common on pen turning and otters small items. Very hard and durable finish! You can search youtube for a lot more about how to do it and you will get a lot of info. Chris

Awesome pens Chris! This proves, once learned, never forgotten. The rpm on your drill press seemed a little high for me, aren't you afraid of burning the drill bit? Or was it because of the stabilization resin inside the wood? Great video. Greetings from Good Old Germany Peter

Cactus Makeshop There were not as many options back then. Many of the kits suffered from cheap plating, and still do on the less expensive ones and for example the different finished were not as available, like a slimline you could not get chrome finish for example... it progressed fairly quickly as pen turning became popular. Rob Shamel Yes Like any wood there are different qualities of the wood. I had some once that was so bright in color it was really pretty. I can look and see if I have any pens in my collection
