Just sitting here at 38 years old, engineering some software, being an adult. I don't know why, but I thought about The Used for the first time in decades. Put on a box full of sharp objects, was like being back in high school again. Just pure nostalgia. Look over in the related, see The Taste Of Ink. "I remember this song I think?". Click it, that opening lick happens, and I just stop what I'm doing and listen, crying by the end of it. It's like one of my deepest memories that picked over 20 years to lay dormant and then all of the sudden knock me over. I remember everything now, every little detail of that time. It's absolutely insane how much gets tied to songs, and apparently forgotten until the song finds it's way back.

I miss these days so much. The Used, Taking Back Sunday, Senses Fail, Saosin, Finch... and so many other great bands helped me get through an otherwise shitty adolescence. ok im gonna be straight forward here, im 14, and like all the 'emo' music my parents listened to then, like the used. mcr and a bunch of other stuff and if time travel was a thing id definitely go back to when all of this was just getting really awesome because nobody else now really gets the music i listen to. ive had a few people i know in my school say the bands i like are "mid level at best" but i feel like nobody really pays attention to how meaningful these songs are. my friends say i was born in the wrong decade hahhah, and i really agree with them because all i wish i had was that 2004 or 2005 scene still because at that time rock music was really at its redefining point and there was a lot going around creatively that i wish was still appreciated today.

I never really understood this song, but the true meaning behind it is really nice… I always assumed it was way more emo than it is! Bert had just gotten clean off meth and was extremely depressed and working with a new band and wanted to prove himself by writing the song at 4am.. the taste of ink is his desperation in writing the music and it being his only shot at freedom and success. The song originally had a darker chorus but when they got picked up and went to LA from Ohio, they all felt like this is it! It’s in our hands! Let’s savor every moment of it! And that’s that! It’s about a depressed guy struggling to stay clean in a horrible town and finding some friends who helped him stay clean and get out of that shitty town! Pretty nice. He’s still clean and doing well to this day too, so that’s nice!

I have hailed this album to be single handedly responsible for saving my life at 15, all while wishing I was "on my own" already and "hated" high school...I'm now 34 and I'd give a fucking arm to go back to this time and re-experience this again.

This song reminds me of one of the best times of my life. Nintendo GameCube, moving 500 miles away from everyone I knew and the feeling that life is so worth living.

Middle school angst hit like a wave. Will never forget this was the first song I showed my friends that all but one made fun of me for. Was also the gateway for me to getting into the core genres.

@@jesushatesyou9641 Jesus *DOES NOT* hate you, or anyone for that matter.. He doesn’t hate people who make sinful mistakes or people who are tricked into _choosing_ to embrace evil. *Everything* Jesus stood for, was to Understand, help, AND TO TEACH INDIVIDUAL people THAT HUMANS ARE EASILY PRONE TO MAKING MISTAKES, AND THAT WE CAN EASILY BE INFLUENCED IN THE WRONG DIRECTION AND BE MISGUIDED.. That’s why Jesus is said to have died for us.. Because it isn’t *entirely* our fault that we are so sinful.

@@jesushatesyou9641 God helps those that make an effort/attempt to help themselves and their situation. People VERY OFTEN call it luck, or a coincidence when their effort to improve their situation pays off.. However it’s quite fascinating to witness the _coincidence_ that those who try, and pray to God, seem to be so lucky in their attempts.

@@callofdutycrazyfreak you have no basis for the idea that "God helps those who help themselves" sure God helps them people and he also helps those who can't help themselves. It obviously wasn't that person alone who got themselves through their hard times. God uses all sorts of things to get us through. Music is one of them

I thinknwe need to admit that the pinnacle of humans and music was in the late 90s and early 2000s. We have have been on a fast decline ever since.

This melody randomly popped into my head right now at 2:20 in the morning. Couldn't remember the name of the group or the song so I hummed it into the Google song search. I'm glad I found an oldie but goodie, I used to jam to this with my headphones.
