Unless you're Twenty One Pilots or Imagine Dragons, pretty much every Indie band in the 2010s is a one hit wonder. Yes some of them might have gotten another song to chart on the hot 100 but if they did, they would chart low and not stay there for long. (Walk the Moon, The Neighborhood, Capital Cities, Portugal the Man, Lovely the band, Foster the People, Bastille, X Ambassadors, etc.)

Otherwise Carry On, Locked Out of Heaven & Thrift Shop might've been on the list.)

I remember early last year when Little Talks was the iTunes "Music Video of the Week". My best friend showed me the video and the pair of us bought their debut EP. We were so excited when their album was finally released, ordering copies from Iceland because it was out out there first. I was delighted when it finally charted and I am so glad it is receiving some well deserved acclaim.

Suit and Tie / Mirrors (Justin Timberlake, Jay Z) 12. Locked Out of Heaven (Bruno Mars) 11. Can't Hold Us (Macklemore, Ryan Lewis, Ray Dalton) 10. #Beautiful (Mariah Carrie, Miguel) 9. Swimming Pools, Drank (Kendrick Lamar) 2. Still Into You (Paramore) 1. Get Lucky (Daft Punk, Pharrell Williams, Nile Rogers) HM: Counting Stars (OneRepublic) Peaked higher in 2014 otherwise would've been top 5 It's Time (Imagine Dragons) Summertime Sadness Remix (Lana Del Rey, Cedric Gervais) Original version would be top 5 Heart Attack (Demi Levato) Wake Me Up (Avicii) Same Love (Macklemore, Ryan Lewis, Mary Lambert) Applause (Lady Gaga) I Will Wait (Mumford and Sons) Safe and Sound (Capital Cities) Diamonds (Rihanna) Hold On We're Going Home (Drake, Majid Jordan)

I was in a shopping mall the first time I heard Heart Attack. The song scared me so much that I didn't want to hear it for a while or so. I would've put Counting Stars on my list of best hits of 2014, mostly because I remember first listening/paying attention to it that summer. Specifically during the FIFA World Cup. Huh, I guess it must've been on some music channel. I think I first heard Sail on a local radio station, back in 2011. I fully agree with your comments on Mirrors. Radioactive is still the best Imagine Dragons song imo. Mama's Broken Heart is interesting (in a really good way). I enjoy the instrumental on My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark. Get Lucky will be forever associated not with overplay, but with a joke about going to Vegas (at least for me). The top 3 is great. Especially that #1 pick....even though I remember listening to it more in 2012 than in 2013.

My opinions on Mark's picks :) HM1. I have weird feelings about this song to say the least. Talking about health problems makes me uncomfortable, so a song themed around a goddamn heart attack rubs me the wrong way. I can still admit this song is good. HM2. This is a damn near classic, and it's well earned. I love this song no matter how much it's overplayed. HM3. I had no idea that Sail charted, but it's so delightfully weird that I just roll with it. HM4. Royals may have been her biggest song, but it's far from Lorde's best. Still good though. HM5. That opening guitar riff fills me with such indescribable emotion that Mirrors would probably make the list on that aspect alone. HM6. I never got the hate around this song either. HM7. Folktronica works so much better as a fusion than it should. The fact that Avicii stuck the landing is incredibly impressive to me. 10. XK-Class Scenario in song form. The ft. Kendrick Lamar version is also really good. 9. The kind of trashy revenge fantasy that works so much better than Beyonce. 8. Songs about bucking tradition always get points from me. Plus, this is a hard-rock inspired country song that gets it right. 7. An EDM song shouldn't be this sentimental, but goddamn does it work for me. It also reminds me of Rosalina's storybook from Super Mario Galaxy for some reason. 6. This just ain't it. You literally said in the Worst Songs of 2017 video that you shouldn't insult your audience, which is exactly what this does. Fall Out Boy has some gems, but this is not one of them. 5. Daft Punk, Disco, and Pharrell is a combination no one knew they needed in 2013. 4. This is one of the best pick-me-up songs I've ever heard. It brings me to tears every time, and is the most like Queen that FUN have ever been. 3. I'm still surprised that a gay rights song charted before it even became legal in the US. This song hits so different since I'm LGBT myself. 2. Please come back to the Hot 100 Macklemore. We miss you :( 1. D E E P

...One thing, Wake Me Up's symbolic meaning is not that hard to figure out...yes, it is symbolic and will inherently mean different things to different people, but the lyrics as a whole manage to form a cohesive story and convey the theme well... 16:25. Finally! I try to be as objective as possible when it comes to any music I listen to, but so many people, (even people who claim to listen to "good" music), only follow what everyone says is good. Whether it is pop, classic rock, hip-hop, underground hip-hop etc. Music fans can be so close minded, so trendy, so one sided, that if you like some thing that they don't like because everyone else says it's bad, then you're an idiot, or a hipster. Casual music fans on the internet drive me insane. Keep doing what you're doing Spectrum Pulse.

I really enjoy listening to your reviews and you deserve way more recognition. I watch other reviews of the years best/worst songs and they were clique and took extremely low blows at the artist. I like how your video went pass saying "this is sometime fun to dance" and explained how these songs should leave you with a better impression than the rest of the pop bullshit of this year. Each explanation for each song was unique, interesting, and somewhat unbiased. I look forward to seeing your future stuff.

I must admit, the lack of Bruno Mars on your list or even in the honorable mentions completely threw me for a loop. "When I Was Your Man" and "Treasure" were definitely top 2013 hits. I remember when I asked you on a previous video about his album "Unorthodox Jukebox," you said something along the lines that it was a good album but it lacked any real innovation. I don't know... I feel like he is one of the few (mainstream) artists that is saving funk, one of my personal favorite genres. However, it is your list, so you must've found these songs just a bit better that Bruno. That being said, I really loved the variety in this list. I'm really glad that Macklemore was ranked as high as he was, seeing as he's turning out to be my favorite rapper. And I absolutely agree that "The Heist" is an amazing and influential album. Everyone should give it a listen.

Wasn't feeling Counting Stars... Too repetitive, uses the same four chords throughout the entire song, and worse yet, a set of chords that has been used by many other songs.

Demi for real??? Lol. I just don't find her music good, to me it's boring. I prefer Miley and she's mediocre. Lol.......Anyway love your channel! :D

:( Demi Lovato just an honorable mention. Then again I didn't like this song until last month. Do you really think Counting Stars is better than Apologize or All the Right Moves? It is a great song, yes, but maybe it just got too much play time on the radio and now its ruined for me. Aloe Blacc's song, i always interpreted the line you have problems with as people telling him that you need to be older to know what life has in store. But then he ruins it with the next line implying that he wants to just skip all the learning and cut to the end.
