If you have very small thin wrists then most of these watches will work. But for anyone with above average size wrists, most of these watches would look lost on the wrist. New watch guy rant: A guy needs to know what matters to him, to be honest with himself about his priorities. In late 2021 I re-discovered I like watches, but I also like power tools, two-way radios, musical instruments, sound recording devices, whisky, cigars, craft beer... I also enjoy eating and keeping the lights on. Since I decided to stop working for other people and live by my own means, I have to make more effort to balance all those desires. That in mind, and based on a month of research, I made a list of watch categories I want to acquire and decided to spend no more than $300 on any single watch, keeping the number under $200 unless there's some tangible advantage to spending that extra hundred. In most cases, there isn't. Two hundred is the sweet spot, the price point at which I achieve balance. Often a watch lover can even spend less on a piece and be just fine. Spending more gets the buyer little more for the money than bragging rights, so if you have the money and your ego needs stroking, go for it. I enjoy learning about "luxury" watches, but I have no desire to give up the other things I like to own them.
@yme3267

Or.... you could just save the money for a better working, better looking watch..... that totally depends on the individual 🤷♂️ However, the 200$ watches you're talking about are objectively uglier on design and are not meant to last long term. They just aren't.
@rangersmith4652
2 жыл бұрын
@@yme3267 There is no "objectively uglier," since beauty is a subjective thing at any price range. If I have several $100-200 watches and wear each one only sparingly, they'll quite likely outlive me.

@@rangersmith4652 No. Beauty is very objective. There's a standard in beauty. Standard in art. Those standards exist for a reason. If most think it's ugly.... it's ugly. I do architecture for a living (if that helps give some context). Believe me.... there's objective ugliness. You can like whatever you want. Also buy whatever you want. That's fine. You do you. Just don't cope. There's a reason thinks are valued for what they are (for better or worst). They're more beautiful (design), had more time making them or are rare, and are made to last..... that's how things are valued (on top of brand name). That's art in a nutshell. Very much has objectivity to it. I'm not saying it's pure as math btw. Math is pure objectivity. There's others.... but I'm not gunna rant forever lol Also.... if you are barely wearing the watch.... why even get one? That's just me.... buy.... hey.... that's JUST me. Why not just get ONE FANTASTIC one then? Seems better than having multiple frankly lol
@rangersmith4652
2 жыл бұрын
@@yme3267 Watch collectors, I'm learning, have many watches they rarely wear, just as some whisky collectors or wine collectors have bottles that will be unopened when they die. That's a shame, isn't it. I can agree to a certain level of objectivity in art: the rule of thirds, symmetry, proportion... But those don't account for people's varying tastes, the subjective. Frankly, if one could apply some sort of objective algorithm to the Rolex Datejust and all its emulators, the difference in appearance would be marginal, as would accuracy, resistance to wear and damage, time between needed servicing, etc. None of those "objective" metrics--not even their cumulative value--would come anywhere near justifying the 100 times higher price.

For me, the big hit of this year and far away from the others, is the VC Evrest Overseas. For a brand that is known more for ’dress’ watches, they release The perfect tool watch. For its design and specs, it’s just mind blowing. 😱😱💯👌😎 Surprisingly, Grand Seiko has really delivered so many beautiful high-hand pieces this year. I’m still struggling to pick my favorite between all the Spring Drive, Automatic, Hi-beat, GMT, ... Definitely, on my list for next year. 👌💯😎 My special brand crush for this year, is Christopher Ward. With the C63 Sealander collection and their in-house caliber and module works, they really up their game. IMHO, they are on the way to be one of the big ones. For micro-brand, with Baltic, I would put Lorier in the light here, has they’ve really released hits with almost all of their timepieces.

Hi Teddy. I love your channel. That said; I do believe your opinion is biased to watches you would wear (Based on your physical stature). You are not oblivious to your bias: We do see that you acknowledge the size of your wrist and often base your opinions of dial sizes on how "big/small" they would wear (on you). You also bring Kevin in to sometimes give a collector's perspective on watches... but I think you need a third person in your group: A large man. One that would wear a 42mm+ dial watch and not be phased if the watch is bulky/ heavy. Your commentry is shaping the industry as the Swiss/ Japanese are looking at you to represent/influence the American market. Thus, get yourself a bulky American with proper style and ask him to choose his favourite watches. There are three major body types which you are part of the ectomorph type. Please get a Endomorph to balance out your opinion. I would definately like to see a guy that would favor a large Pilot's watch, a Panerai or would favor a bulky Sea-Dweller over the over featured Submariner. Food-for-thought from a fan.

Hey just a quick feedback: please use better fonts for the thunbnails. The way it says „202 1“ due to missing kerning in these BS free fonts is killing me… You talk about details, very nuanced finishing options that separate great from good. This should be notable everywhere 💪. Apart from that: keep it up, i love your vids!

@Teddy great picks! IMO Tudor is hard to beat. They produce timepieces that rival watches double the price. I rarely get compliments or questions about my two tone Sub. The Black Bay inevitability starts conversations. I am eyeballing the panda Chrono! 🤤

Excellent. Thanks for the continuing education as well as the ego boosting endorsement of a few of my own purchases. Always nice to see some of mine that made your list. 😊👍🏼

Very comprehensive , much appreciated reflection , thanks. I share your sentiment on the JLC, Patek and FP Journe. The Tudor chrono and the Zenith certainly look a very good value and alternative to Daytona.

@4.16, does that Longines have smudges or fingerprints on the seconds hand?? If so, wow that's pretty noticeable, and if it's not been taken apart post production that is shocking build quality.

Off topic but triggered by the video: how do you prefer to wear your metal bracelet watches? One clip in here the bracelet is squeezing into the model’s (Teddy?) skin. I adjust mine so they’re a touch loose when cold. My wrist size will change throughout the day with heat and even body heat. And walking around at the mall or something my hands tend to swell a tad as well. But I can’t stand a tight watch.

I love the video but please stop hyping up the Vostok. Yes, there is a different approach to building a performance watch, but this is so much behind where other brands are, it is not appropriate to be encouraged. If you have a 30 year old watch which at the time had a competetive advantage to Omega at that time, it would be a part of horological history. If you have a watch built today the way it would have been 30 years ago, you have a Lada Niva. It's just my opinion, otherwise, thanks for the video, as always, a good update about what is out there.
