What is the function of the wheel in the driving cab? Steering or a brake/acceleration controller?
@tjejojyj
2 жыл бұрын
It’s for steering. The vehicle can autonomously follow a set of marks on the road that look like ========. But the driver can also steer to bypass an obstacle etc. The Wikipedia article is quite good. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autonomous_Rail_Rapid_Transit

Apparently people in the comments don’t seem to understand how much more convenient these tram-buses are compared to other buses. Being only one storey, fully automated and having 3 articulated sections (which is uncommon in buses) is a Huge advantage for these tram-buses

@@leo1933 90% cheaper? Sure… because batteries are so much cheaper then iron, right? Also you would probably need twice as many vehicles because they are charging half of the time and being so low to the ground the smallest pothole will damage them. Not to mention the pollution from the tires and the cost of replacing them regularly. Rails don‘t have potholes and wires don‘t need charging. That‘s why regular trams are superior.
@TheLostProbe

@@leo1933 nobody would call those rubber-tyred metros a "metro bus" and you shouldn't call it a "train" either. it's a rubber-tyred metro. that's it's actual name that it should be known by. these trackless "trams" are similar. they're just bi-articulated electric buses. a fancy bus with better suspension, but still a bus in Perth, they have been trialing one of these things for 3 weeks now, and it's so heavy that divots are forming in the road. for these bi-articulated fancy buses to be viable, you would need to reinforce the road, which requires ripping up the asphalt, and at that point you may as well just install regular tram tracks which would be more energy-efficient, comfortable, and would create a sense of permanence.
