I gained a lot of respect for Paris Hilton when I found out that Tinkerbell lived to a very old age in Paris's care. I think she lived to be almost 20. I had an almost 20 year old dog myself, and it takes a lot of dedication to care for an extreme geriatric dog like that. As much as it seemed like Tinkerbell was an accessory, she kept that dog long after her 15 minutes were over and it was clearly a beloved companion.

That’s something all the bird channels emphasise-there are so many bird sanctuaries full of unwanted parrots because people don’t have a clue on how to take care of them-they just think they’re cute or funny until their bird starts screaming because they need food, attention, training, etc. I wish there was a screening process that people had to go through before getting a pet-adoption services do them but I wish breeders and pet stores would do the same. It would save so many animals-probably wouldn’t make them as much money-but too bad so sad.

Two incidents that really messed me up was The Kardashians getting North a bearded dragon and a hamster (separately of course). The bearded dragon looked like it was in really rough shape from the pictures they posted of it. Nails desperately needed trimming, they put a gem on its third eye receptor (they use this to see predators from above its very stress inducing to block it), they put it on its back for the pictures which is a position that actually cuts off any reptile’s airway. Not to mention them putting a sweater on it which can actually put them at risk of freezing and once again is generally pretty stressful. If you wanna put a little hat on their head for a picture that’s fine but a sweater is a no go. Reptiles and amphibians are my special interest (I also work with them) so seeing that was so beyond gross to me especially since so many people who get beardies don’t know how to care for them. The hamster one was actually aired on TV. Khloe got North this hamster as a random surprise gift without asking Kim first and it died within a couple days. They got a disgustingly small cage for it (it’s the Tiny Tales brand cages. As someone who works at a pet store idk why we still sell them they’re just cruel please don’t buy them). It always baffles me because they have the money to give this hamster a whole ass room but they give it a stress inducing little box. Hamsters are easily the most commonly abused animals just from people thinking they’re little toys for the kids to play with for like a week and then never take care of again. I just wish people with that much influence especially would do their research before getting any animal. I love beardies so much and think that if you have the money and the space they make great pets for all ages. I won’t be getting one anytime soon though because I don’t have money for a large enclosure. I’ll be sticking with my frogs and geckos because doing otherwise is irresponsible. If anyone read all that thank you for coming to my TedTalk🤩🤩

The problem with “teacup pigs” isn’t that they are actually full sized pigs, it’s that people don’t understand how big your average pig is. What are sold as teacup pigs absolutely are small pigs. Your average pig can get to over 6 foot long and over 300kgs, but the image many people have in their heads is probably half that at most. So you hear the term “teacup pig” and you think aw cute, it’s a tiny pig! And then it grows up into what people think is a normal pig size, so then they dump it because it wasn’t what they were expecting. All that is to say it is a fundamental lack of research and understanding in a lot of people that get pet pigs

We raise the pups inside and play with them once they’re old enough to be handled, work hard to make sure their enclosure is clean, and don’t keep a dog that we can’t properly care for and love. Of course we make the needed vet visits as well to get their vaccines and health checks. A lot of breeders don’t know what they’re doing and it hurts me to see dogs mistreated, but not all are bad
@beetlevomiit
2 жыл бұрын
@@reesember doodles are not hypoallergenic every time. youre breeding an already hypoallergenic dog to a dog that sheds. i know plenty of doodles that arent hypoallergenic. poodles on the other hand are always non-shedding. also again, there is no such thing as an ethically bred doodle. theres no standard to go by for proper structure and temperament, you dont have recommended health tests. your parents are still bybs, vaccines and health checks are not health tests for conditions like hip dysplasia. you are still paying the same price for a glorified, unproven mutt. aka the same thing you can get from a shelter. there is no need for doodles to exist. poodles and goldens/labs/etc have their own uses and both are perfect for various work and as family dogs. keep in mind, the creator of the goldendoodle highly regrets introducing the breed to society because now theres another pointless breed being mooched by people instead of getting a perfectly good shelter dog or buying from an ethical breeder to preserve breeds.

I have a friend who had pets growing up but really wasn't responsible so their mom did all the care for the pets. When my friend aged up and lived on their own... they got a puppy. It was a horrible experience to watch. The dog pooped and peed everywhere & was constantly in a small wire kennel with a bed & food//water & nowhere to walk so the dog would juust jump and pace. THEN when they let the dog out in the house it became apparent the dog had no training, very little social skills and was BITING. They couldn't let it out to pee so they put puppy pads all over the house... The dog went to the bathroom ANYWHERE and everywhere.... I did try to help train the puppy (lots of basic tips on how to train out biting barking and jumping on people) but I didn't live there, there was only so much I could do. They no longer have the dog and the life of that puppy was truly terrible.

@@brigade7678 Really long and the end is kinda a update on my dog's life Sounds a lot like my dog. We got her when she was 9months, but her life before that was spent in a crate with small children poking her until her original owner gave her to my friend's grandparents. There she was extremely stressed out by like 5 other dogs and screaming birds. She wasn't trained nor socialized and I was very naive to think that I was just getting a shy anxious dog. She had awful resource guarding issues (used to bite over a bowl that was already licked clean and she would steal any food that she could get her jaws on. Eventually she learned to stop hiding in the closet and started going to her crate after she'd steal something. It took almost 2yrs to fully potty train her and now she no longer bites over food or food packages. She's still very easily excitable, but she's doing a lot better and has calmed down a lot. You should've seen her when we stopped at my friend's grandparents to get her vet papers. She was cowering in my husband's lap and didn't stop until we drove away. I'm not sure what she experienced, but I know it wasn't good as any long stick or cane freaks her out. She used to hate our grandma until we realized and then our grandma stopped bringing her cane out when we were over. The only basic obedience training that she has is how to sit, go to her crate, and to stay in the house when we tell her to stay when we go out the door and we're not bringing her. She doesn't know how to lay down, but considering the state that she was in when she came, she is doing incredible. She even adores our 15month old which I didn't know whether or not we would be able to keep her when I got pregnant, but she seems to really love our kid and she probably appreciates that she's allowed to have boundaries. She still nips a little when you move her and she very much does not want to move so luckily she will often move when you tell her to. We're still working on the whole stealing food thing, but at least she doesn't do it in front of us anymore and no longer tries to bite over it. We got her because our friend knew that we had just started looking for a chihuahua and while she isn't a 5lb chihuahua (she's a 16lb chihuahua/shiba inu mix) we still adore her and I couldn't imagine our lives without her. She loves her kitties and really wants to play with other dogs, but doesn't know how yet. We still might get a little chihuahua I'm a few years once my son gets older since that's what we originally wanted and still want, but I can't turn down an animal that very clearly needs help. She's very good with small dogs, just tries to fight big dogs when she first meets them and because we got her during the pandemic we couldn't really try to socialize her with other dogs. She loves the dog friends that she has and especially wants to play with smaller dogs that we come across. I wonder if she thinks small dogs are cats. She certainly thinks that she's one. She lives with 5 cats and has even started to try to purr. It was very scary at first because we thought she was growling, but it was very much a friendly one. Still catches me off guard though

Taking in a pet is called “adopting” an animal because you’re supposed viewing them as a new FAMILY MEMBER- not a new fucking accessory. Treat them like an actual family member. Also please don’t give pets as a surprise gift; It’s usually a very irresponsible decision. If the person can’t care for them it’s partially your fault. I’ll admit some celebs I’m fond of are guilty of doing this tho _(ex: Marilyn Monroe’s puppy “Mafia” was a surprise birthday gift from friend Frank Sinatra - but Frank was bipolar AF apparently so I infer this was an impulsive decision while in a manic state. I read a book years ago where sociopaths/narcissists were interviewed about what it’s like to be them. One lady spoke on how she adopted a baby Pomeranian purely because she knew it would get attention at work and buying expensive things was thrilling. After a few weeks, she was completely bored and annoyed with it. Went and ditched the puppy on the side of the road in a different town. Absolutely gut wrenching. Being able to treat animals like this is such a terrifying and abhorrent behavior. I just hope all those pets went to good homes where they were able to cope with their abandonment trauma.

Apparently the cat had been though at least 3 homes in the span of 3 years. I suspect his first two owners flipped him for money, as he's a desert lynx (considered as a "luxury breed"). He now suffers from severe separation anxiety, likely related to his repeated re-homings... Breaks my heart because he's so sweet and loving. He deserves a loving forever home, and I'm going to provide him that. No animal deserves to be treated like a throw-away or a way to make a quick buck... 💔

Like he had just bought this puppy, he was 7 weeks old, idk that was kinda sus ngl. I would not trust a puppy that old to be alone and not wreck havoc. There was also one time where he was napping and the door to his room was open, but his dog was tied up by the open front door, sitting in a dog bed with some food and water. @@Jane-ow7sr I breed American Pit Bull Terriers and I can confidently tell you, Tibetan Mastiffs are not like them, at all. Tibetan Mastiffs were bred for property guarding and personal protection work, they were bred for extreme human aggression and even their structure and coat texture were built to not be damaged easily, their thick coat prevents any major damage from bites. There's a famous Tibetan Mastiff that lives with a pack of wolves and is the leader. They are similar to Chow Chows in temperament, but even Chow Chows aren't as aggressive. Pit Bulls were bred for dog fighting and big game hunting, never human aggression. Any human aggressive "Pit Bull" today isn't actually a Pit Bull. I’m an animal advocate in south texas and it’s frustrating here because people treat pest as disposable, and they aren’t even celebrities. The culture of getting pets and getting rid of them is fueling the irresponsible ownership issue contributing to overpopulation. Rehoming has got to stop being considered as a normal option. Rehoming is normal because people are getting pets they should’t have to begin with. Rehoming is fine but it’s just become the next problem in the grand picture. I could rant about this forever but yeah. Quite frankly people don’t even need to be influence. They are brought up to be that way. So many people are brought up to be careless of animals and learned from their parents and family. What further frustrates me is that all the information is available on the Internet if somebody just cared enough to look. What sucks is that if they don’t care enough to look or try to do better for their pets, they don’t care enough to not get one or consider that they are irresponsible. not knowing is no longer an excuse to me. Plus, if you don’t know, now you do, so… what? Ugh… anyway. Please people be responsible and don’t get pets you can’t be committed to hell or high water. While that’s extreme sounding, apparently that’s what it’s come to. There is so much of an issue that everyone needs to be held to a higher standard. Unless you just don’t care.

That's so sad living in cities like LA in the ghetto it's infuriating seeing how many people get pitbulls to look tough. It's rampant in the Mexican communities and they train the dogs to be aggressive so they can look tough owning a powerful dog That's aggressive. When they decide they don't want the dog anymore it gets put down because the shelter can't adopt out an aggressive dog especially one as powerful as a pitbull. I have 2 pitbulls and one of them has attacked us before because of the extreme abuse she endured. Luckily I don't have children so we've been able to work with her and train her and help her heal emotionally from the trauma she's suffered. We're a young healthy couple and we can handle her, but most people would've had to put her down especially with children. She's gotten so much better since we first got her. She is incredibly loving and affectionate and she was when we first got her so we never saw any aggressive traits in her until certain things started to trigger her, particularly when my husband and I argue. That's a major trigger for her or we yell at one of the other Animals when they do something bad. She didn't understand that just because we were yelling didn't mean someone was gonna get hurt. Now she's learning that when we argue or have to discipline her or the other animals no one is gonna get hurt. It's been a long road to healing for her, but I love her so much and I'm grateful she wasn't adopted by someone who had children. If I had children we unfortunately would have had to bring her back to the shelter. She's in the perfect home for what she's been through. Our other pitbull is very patient and laid back and when Koko gets upset he always intervenes to calm her down. He's bigger and stronger than her and she respects him as the alpha dog. I can't have children so my animals are my babies and I'm grateful that we were able to help Koko heal. Animals are a huge responsibility and deserve to have a loving and safe home for the entirety of their lives.

I gave the dog right back to the person that gave it to me and refused take on the responsibility. It caused a lot of hard feeling, fights, and the person guilt tripped me for years over the dog which they ended up keeping, but I made the right choice in refusing to take on the pet. Pet rats fit into my high school life far better than a dog and I had never asked for the responsibility. It wasn't fair to the dog, but it wasn't my problem. They're HUGELY in fashion in China and are often put up for auctions with pure-bred ones with the right traits being sold for millions of USD$!_* Fact of the matter is, when you have the money LP has, you can buy almost anything. A lot of very rich people buy these dogs as a status symbol and for the aesthetics, then just keep them eternally caged up. It's rare to see anyone actually get one for security and then PROPERLY train and work with them for that purpose... Which is depressing because you won't find a better security dog anywhere in any other breed. These ones are "top of the line" for a reason - because they literally are NOT pets. They're the definition of a working dog, being one of (if not the) biggest breed(s) in the world... He likely just bought his from a specialty breeder in the US and likely paid a crap ton...

As stupid as it seems, celebrities have a huge influence on people's pet purchases. I've worked a lot in animal welfare and medicine, and there is a massive influx of pets needing rehoming, post-lockdowns and post-pandemic. A lot are dogs like Huskies and Malamutes. They are expensive, designer dogs so you would hope that might act as a barrier. But people saw celebrities with them who don't appear to live in rural areas with large estates, and thought that it was a breed suitable for their lifestyle. THEY ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR APARTMENT LIVING 🙄🙄🙄🙄 So these dogs can't get easily rehomed, and at the moment, the majority get PTS. It makes me really depressed and angry.
@beetlevomiit
2 жыл бұрын
i wouldnt say huskies and malamutes are "designer dogs" as designer dogs are considered to be dogs bred for aesthetics and sold for high prices, designer dogs are mutts that are bred by bybs (aka exotic bullies, doodles, "rare" colours, etc) also, i know majority of breeds can do apartment living, you just have to be able to provide the physical and mental needs. i have a friend with a working belgian malinois and a gsd who both do igp sports. i also know others with active breeds who do just fine, however, working breeds who are raised as pets do not do well in pet lifestyles in apartments. but thats j my experience as a tech and a person who has a lot of experience in different breeds and sports
@punkybrewstar83

@@beetlevomiit Huskies are bred for aesthetics and sold for high prices. If you live in a colder climate, and you have an active job, like farming or hunting, then it is a very functional breed. If you are a rapper who lives in central LA... a huskie is absolutely a designer dog.

@@beetlevomiit Instead of telling you that a Husky is supposed to be a working breed in a cold climate I have copied the AKC description- Siberian Husky, a thickly coated, compact sled dog of medium size and great endurance, was developed to work in packs, pulling light loads at moderate speeds over vast frozen expanses. Sibes are friendly, fastidious, and dignified. The graceful, medium-sized Siberian Husky's almond-shaped eyes can be either brown or blue 'and sometimes one of each' and convey a keen but amiable and even mischievous expression. Quick and nimble-footed, Siberians are known for their powerful but seemingly effortless gait. Tipping the scales at no more than 60 pounds, they are noticeably smaller and lighter than their burly cousin, the Alaskan Malamute. As born pack dogs, they enjoy family life and get on well with other dogs. The Sibe's innate friendliness render them indifferent watchdogs. These are energetic dogs who can't resist chasing small animals, so secure running room is a must. An attractive feature of the breed: Sibes are naturally clean, with little doggy odor.
@beetlevomiit

@@punkybrewstar83 then by your means all dogs are designer dogs. people who get dobermans in colorado and dont use them for protection work means designer dog? same with a gsd? designer dogs are dogs that are bred with no purpose other than looks and money, aka doodles, exotic bullies. purebred dogs are bred for purpose of breed preservation. now if youre breeding off standard, like a panda gsd, then yes thats a designer dog. also you dont need to copy the standard, i know it because ive shown huskies and worked with many. all im saying is your definition of a "designer dog" is flawed

He had so much scarring on his hind feet and around his privates that his fur never fully grew back in, causing bald spots. I wish I would have gotten more time with him, but I'm glad to know that he lived the last 3rd of his life in comfort and care, and that he passed a peacefully as he could have, almost certainly due to just old age as he was around 10/11 when he died, and had no health issues beforehand.
