On the shores of the picturesque lake Fyresvatn, which is located in the Norwegian region of Vestfold og Telemark, a very pleasant and interesting new attraction appeared in 2023 - a trail through the treetops!
This is a novelty not only for the region but also for the whole country since there are no analogs of the trail in Norway yet!
Now a walk through the forest will definitely not be boring, because in some places the height of the path above the ground reaches 15 meters. It is built of wood, the length of the path is 1 km, and the width is 2 meters.
The wooden boardwalk structure is designed to follow the curves of the mountain, sometimes following its ridges and slopes, and sometimes overhanging the cliff, creating impressive viewing platforms where visitors can fully experience the wind blowing through the treetops.
The gently ascending path winds through the trees and leads to the top of Mount Klokkarhamaren. At the end of the trail, there is another pleasant surprise - an observation deck literally floating on high fifteen-meter pillars above the top of the mountain. The diameter of the circle is 45 meters, from here opens a fantastic view of Lake Firesvatn and a panorama of the mighty mountains of the Vestfold and Telemark region.
The treetop trail was designed by Danish architecture firm EFFEKT and its main goal is to provide everyone with the opportunity to hike Mount Klokkahamaren, regardless of their physical abilities. After all, one of the pleasant features of the project is its versatility for all user groups, from cyclists to children and wheelchairs. I was also pleased that the trail and parking are free!
The supporting structure, as well as the boardwalk and railings, are made from local wood. Thus, the trail literally merges with the pine trees growing on the mountain. To realize the idea of creating a project that will complement the already beautiful nature, and not destroy it, the team of the architectural bureau EFFEKT met with local contractor Inge Aamlid. Together they came up with a simple building system, the main principle of which is to use only small, straight, and prefabricated elements that can be easily handled with small equipment or even by hand.
All this is in order to protect nature during the construction process and not cause damage to it.
The construction system allowed the walkway to be built and assembled directly on the mountain, using local timber and local craft techniques, thereby also paying homage to the logging era of Fyresdal.
Having learned about the opening of the trail, we of course rushed to the Hamaren Activity Park (Hamaren Aktivitetspark) to walk with you along the trail through the treetops!
We really hope you enjoy the video! We tried our best! Feel free to ask your questions and write your wishes in the comments, we are always pleased to read them! ;)
